I test mattresses for a living, and after evaluating more than 250 of them, I know you don't have to wait until Labor Day weekend to find a good deal. Some of our top-tested mattress brands have already launched early sales with worthwhile savings on beds we regularly recommend.
A mattress is a big investment that you'll live with for years, so don't get too caught up in the discount numbers. The best deal is ultimately on a bed that's right for your sleep style, needs, and budget. So I'm looking beyond the biggest markdowns to find deals on mattresses we'd recommend at full price.

IN OUR TESTS:This mattress uses latex, which is more resilient than foam and prized for its ability to evenly distribute your body weight. Because of that, while there's some give, it won't sink nearly as much under your weight and has a dense, springy feel. One tester shared, "It is very firm like a good solid hug, but at the same time conforms to you and embraces you."
It's also certified by the Global Organic Textile Standard (GOTS) and Global Organic Latex Standard (GOLS), which means Avocado adheres to strict manufacturing standards.

GH32 32% off
WHY WE LOVE IT:With this discount, you can save $466 on the Aurora Luxe Mattress, which is our pros' best cooling pick for soft mattresses. IN OUR TESTS:GH Home Reviews Analyst Amanda Constantine says the Aurora Luxe is one of her favorites among the several cooling mattresses she has tested over the years. "There's an initial icy feel when I lie down, which fades while I sleep, but I rarely wake up too warm. If I do, adjusting my position brings instant relief," she says.
THE DEAL:From Aug. 19 to Sept. 8, you can take 30% off select mattresses. This includes discounts on the Sapira Hybrid and the Original Hybrid .
WHY WE LOVE IT:We don't typically see this large of discounts from Leesa outside of holiday discounts, so it's great to shop while it's offered.
IN OUR TESTS:"I find that the Original Hybrid has a balanced, uniform feel, making it more versatile, while the Sapira Hybrid is suited to those who love plush memory foam," Wu says. When we surveyed users, many raved about Leesa mattresses' soft, cushioning foam.
Is Labor Day a good time to buy a new mattress?
Historically, holiday weekends like Labor Day are typically the best time of year to save on mattresses. "While mattress companies offer discounts and sales throughout the year, a holiday weekend is when you'll see the most consistent and competitive offers across brands," says Lexie Sachs, director of strategy and operations at the Good Housekeeping Institute, after covering mattresses for over 12 years.
This year, some early Labor Day deals are better than those we saw during Fourth of July weekend and even Memorial Day weekend. (Of course, deals vary by brand.) If you have your heart set on a particular brand or mattress and you don't love the discount you're seeing right now, it may be worth waiting for the next holiday weekend sale (Black Friday is sooner than you think!).
