The best blankets warm up any space — literally and figuratively. (Walmart)

After a long day, there is nothing like sinking into your couch with a warm blanket while watching your favorite TV show. A beautiful throw can go a long way in making your space cozier , but when it comes to the best blankets of 2026, there's more to consider than how a throw looks. Is it machine washable for easy cleaning? Does the fabric feel soft against your skin?

To narrow down the endless options for sale, we pooled responses from Yahoo editors who own styles from popular brands, including Barefoot Dreams, Cozy Earth and Eddie Bauer. We asked for only the most durable, comfortable picks — the warm blankets that editors have washed and dried countless times. Some staffers love these throws so much that they have bought multiples or given them as gifts. The picks range from luxurious to affordable (as in $15!), so you're sure to find a style that suits your space and budget.

Best blankets for 2026

Dimensions:50"W x 72"L | Material:Micromink (polyester) | Colors:Brown Texture (pictured), Gray Ruched, Papyrus Beige, and eight more

For the look of fur with a trendy twist, try a ruched blanket. This top-rated, reversible throw from Walmart's line with Better Homes & Gardens comes in 11 colors and is machine-washable for easy maintenance.

Why we love it:"I was intrigued by this blanket because it was being compared to a much more expensive blanket from Pottery Barn on social media," says Senior Deals Writer Britt Ross of the popular pick. It has over 1,100 five-star ratings on Walmart.

"I was super impressed when it arrived because it feels so much more luxe than a $25 throw should. It's got some weight to it, is remarkably soft and keeps me toasty on chilly winter nights. I'm not usually a fan of the faux fur aesthetic, but the one I have — the light tan and white style — is understated enough that it doesn't feel too showy."

Minor criticisms:Some shoppers say it feels a bit thinner than they expected, but it's still a warm winter blanket.

Dimensions:50"W x 60"L (also comes in Kids, Throw XL, Twin, Twin XL, Full, Queen, King and Cal King) | Material:Polyester | Colors:Sage green (pictured), Burgundy Red, Fog Purple and 28 more

Available in a wide array of sizes and colors, this Bedsure blanket is a popular choice, boasting over 135,000 five-star Amazon reviews. Our editors were curious to see if the blanket lived up to its hype, and — spoiler alert — it did.

Why we love it:The lightweight fleece "feels as soft as a baby chick," according to Senior Home Editor Jessica Dodell-Feder , who reviewed this blanket earlier this year. "It keeps me warm enough that I'm able to fall asleep, but not so warm that I wake up in a pool of sweat." Fleece can often feel a bit suffocating, but Bedsure's blanket is thin and light, says Dodell-Feder. You can machine-wash and dry the blanket, and she reports the blanket has held up beautifully so far.

Minor criticisms:It has a slight sheen that some may not like. And if you prefer blankets made from natural fibers like cotton or wool, then this fleece (polyester) blanket may not be the one for you — even though the price is certainly a sweet deal.

Dimensions:50"W x 60"L | Material:Cotton, fleece, sherpa | Colors:Cabin Plaid Red (pictured), Cabin Plaid Beige, Cabin Plaid Green and five more

For a reversible, medium-weight throw with winter-cabin appeal, don't sleep on this popular blanket from Eddie Bauer (or do!). It's beloved by Yahoo readers for its oversize design, cozy yet breathable coverage and affordable price.

Why we love it:The blanket features a classic buffalo check pattern on one side and faux shearling popcorn fleece on the other. Says Senior Home Writer, Kristin Granero , "I've personally given this blanket as a gift and keep a few on hand for impromptu road or camping trips and cold-weather emergencies. They're perfect for using outside when you're sitting around a heat lamp or fire pit , as long as you're careful."

Minor criticisms:Although the sherpa blanket is only available as a throw, it's sizeable enough to share.

Dimensions:60"W x 50"L (also comes in Oversized Throw) | Material:Faux fur (polyester) | Colors:Creme (pictured), Walnut, Dove Gray, Espresso

Looking for the best warm blanket to wow guests? It doesn't get much more lavish than Cozy Earth's Cuddle Blanket, which offers substantial weight to keep you warm on especially cold nights.

Why we love it:The quietly luxurious , sleek faux fur is ultra-plush for calming comfort. Online reviewers confirm it is very heavy, almost like a weighted blanket, but without any beads or fill.

In fact, the brand says the Cuddle Blanket is even heavier than its internet-famous Bubble Cuddle Blanket. Granero is a fan and says, "The throw keeps me warm during cold Brooklyn nights and never ceases to get compliments from guests."

Minor criticisms:There is no denying the high price tag on this luxurious blanket. Granero recommends adding it to your cart during annual sales events, when it can see some of its steepest discounts. Granero also notes that inventory can dwindle around the holidays.

Dimensions:50"W x 60"L | Material:Polyester | Colors:Brown (pictured), tan and white

If you're looking for something that is lighter than faux fur and strikes a good balance between casual and decadent, consider a teddy blanket. The Curly Throw has a reversible design and can go in the washer and dryer.

Why we love it:"I initially purchased this blanket for looks alone. I'm a sucker for anything teddy and it was on sale so I couldn't resist," shares Shopping Director Jeanine Edwards . "Turns out, it's one of the best buys for my home I've ever made. I was only intending to use it as decor, but it's actually been very functional for keeping me warm in rooms where there's a draft. So it looks great and it serves a purpose — win, win!"

Minor criticisms:A blanket at the foot of your bed or over your reading chair is an easy way to introduce color into your space. That's why we wish this teddy throw was available in more than three shades, but at least they're all neutrals.

Dimensions:60"W x 72"L | Material:Polyester | Colors:Navy jacquard (pictured), Floral, Striped Leaves and eight more

Planning on sharing? This soft blanket from The Big One makes room for snuggling. It offers a mid-weight feel and a range of colors and patterns, from a navy plaid to adorable woodland creatures. No wonder this plush throw has earned more than 19,000 five-star reviews!

Why we love it:Online shoppers aren't the only ones raving about this blanket. Senior Commerce Editor Rory Halperin bought one years ago during a Black Friday sale and has been so impressed with the size and quality that she's purchased several since.

"It's so cozy, and you can often find me wrapped up in it on my couch!" she exclaims. "Kohl's always has new colors and patterns depending on the season. It makes a great present, too, and I've gifted it to friends and family many times over the years."

Minor criticisms:This blanket sells out fast. I've noticed that the color options have changed in the short amount of time since I updated this story. If you have your heart set on a particular pattern or color, you should act quickly.

Dimensions:45"W x 60"L | Material:Polyester | Colors:Beach Rock/Cream (pictured), Moonbream/Cream (pictured), Sandstone/Cream, Bluewater/Cream

Cozy meets breezy in this striped blanket from Barefoot Dreams, which is known for its mid-weight, machine-washable and — most importantly — ultra-soft textiles that feel like heaven on the skin. Plus, it's a highly giftable style.

Why we love it:Intrigued by the buzz around this brand, Commerce Deputy Editor Izabella Zaydenberg finally got her hands on a blanket and has since become quite the enthusiast. "They come in so many colors, they're insanely soft, and they make excellent gifts. I practically buy them in bulk around Christmas. I have three in my home at the moment — one on my reading chair, one on the couch and one on the bed (which my cat has quickly claimed as her own)."

Minor criticisms:While the blanket is 60 inches long, its width is slightly narrower than some of the other throws featured in this story.

Dimensions:8'W x 8'L (also comes in 10'W x 10'L) | Material:Polyester, spandex | Colors:Light Gray (pictured), Forest, Purple, Dots and 21 more

There will be no more fighting over who gets more of the blanket during family movie nights, thanks to this throw from the aptly named company Big Blanket.

Why we love it:"I initially tried it for the novelty, but immediately fell in love with it," says AOL Commerce Editor Kate Tully Ellsworth . "It's ridiculously large, fitting over multiple couches and draping over my king-sized bed. We use it for snuggling during the fall and winter or as an extra comforter. It's sooooo warm and cozy, and it's held up perfectly over the past five-plus years. We've taken it traveling, moved it across state lines and used it as a play rug for our daughter."

Minor criticisms:Ellsworth notes that the blanket is fairly heavy, ideal for those who prefer something between a regular and weighted blanket. It's also on the pricier end of the spectrum, starting at $149 when not on sale.

Dimensions:60"W x 80"L | Material:Cotton, acrylic, polyester | Colors:Bluebell

This blanket from ChappyWrap is equal parts cozy and breezy, with a charming design that feels very Martha's Vineyard or beach house in the Hamptons. Better yet, it's made to last.

Why we love it:"I've washed mine a number of times, and it still looks like new!" gushes Gifting Editor Amanda Garrity of her floral throw. "The brand claims it's resistant to shrinking, pilling and fuzz and so far, I've found that to be the case."

If florals aren't your style, ChappyWrap makes dozens of designs, including seasonal patterns and plaids. They're so striking, the blankets could moonlight as stylish wraps for warming up at the park or other outdoor outings. ChappyWrap also offers a slightly smaller midi size that's great for kids, as well as a mini for babies — plus monogram options.

Minor criticisms:The ChappyWrap is pricey — but for one of the best blankets we've found, we think the cost is justified, especially considering the fabric's sturdy construction.

Dimensions:One size | Material:Polyester | Colors:Red Checkered (pictured), purple, Rose Pink, Wine and 15 more

For a warm blanket you can truly immerse yourself in, nothing beats a wearable style. Is a blanket sweatshirt a little silly? Yes, but it'll also keep you toasty, even if you're moving around the house.

Why we love it:Executive Editor Nicole Sforza proudly declares her family's love for this sweatshirt-esque pick (it even has a hood). "One of my daughters got it for my other daughter for Christmas, and I promptly stole it," she explains. "It's wildly roomy and so soft, with a big pocket in the front to keep your hands warm or to store snacks (important!). I've fallen asleep wearing this thing numerous times."

Minor criticisms:Nicole warns that although this wearable blanket is listed as reversible in the product description, it has tags and seams on the inside. But hey, it comes in many patterns and colors!

Factors to consider when choosing a blanket

Whether you need to replace a blanket that's lost its fluff or are searching for a cozy throw to gift someone special, there are a few key things to keep in mind.

  • Size:How many people will want to use the blanket at home? In our opinion, the best blankets are ones that you can comfortably snuggle under without constantly pulling one corner to cover your toes — especially if you're sharing it with another person. Most of our picks are 50 inches wide and 60 inches long, although some are a bit larger and/or come in multiple sizes.

  • Material:Blankets can be made from a variety of materials, including synthetic fabrics such as polyester (which can be very warm), as well as natural fibers, including cotton.

  • Care:Bedding that can go in the washer and dryer will make your life easier — and that's especially true with blankets that are perhaps even more susceptible to everyday stains. All of our picks are machine-washable and most can go in the dryer, too.

How we chose the best blankets

Our team of home editors tests and researches bedding of all types, including comforters , quilts and sheets . To find the best warm blankets, we polled our team for the styles that have held up to regular wear and tear, cleaned well in the washer and looked good while doing so. Blankets available in a range of colors/patterns and with high shopper ratings earned bonus points.

Blanket FAQs

What is the best blanket for winter?

This is peak blanket season, but rather than layer a bunch of throws on top of each other to beat cold drafts in your home, we recommend using a single mid- to heavyweight blanket. A good winter blanket may feature fleece, sherpa or faux fur on one or both sides.

What is the best blanket for summer?

Whether you're looking for something purely decorative to drape over your sofa or you need a blanket for when the AC is cranking, look for something lightweight. Throws made from natural materials like cotton and linen are ideal. Avoid polyester, which tends to be less breathable.
