A. Lange & Söhne’s Complex Triple Split Watch Is Back in Platinum
A. Lange & Söhne is proving why good things come in threes.
The esteemed watchmaker has just unveiled its third Triple Split timepiece, following behind its white-gold and pink-gold siblings that were debuted in 2018 and 2021, respectively. The newest chronograph brings a new material into the mix, with a platinum case and a rhodié-colored dial.

Here, Lange has once again shined light on a rather impressive watch, not to mention a technical powerhouse. The Triple Split was the first, and remains the only, split-second chronograph in the world that can measure intermediate, comparative, and total times of events for as long as 12 hours. That's all thanks to the rattrapante extending to both the minutes and hours counters, in an extra boost from a classic split-seconds. And you can see that triple rattrapante play out on the dial, done up in varying shades of gray; it's also home to a power-reserve indicator at 6 o'clock, so you can glean how much is left of its 55 hours, and a tachymeter scale.

The new Triple Split comes in at 43.2 mm in diameter and 15.6 mm thick, a sizable timepiece that belies all the precise and complex watchmaking within. Flip the watch over, and A. Lange & Söhne shows where the action really is. The L132.1 calibre is on full display through the sapphire-crystal caseback, showing off all of its 567 components and 46 jewels moving in harmony. The manually wound movement has a frequency of 3 Hz.
"Until today, the Triple Split plays in a league of its own," Anthony de Haas, director of product development at A. Lange & Söhne, said in a press statement. "Behind the triple rattrapante mechanism for seconds, minutes, and hours lies the L132.1 calibre that was entirely developed in our manufacture, one of our most elaborate and equally most beautiful movements. The depth of the architecture calls for the utmost expertise, patience, and dexterity, creating an extraordinary bond between the watchmaker and the movement."

Sadly, A. Lange & Söhne is only making 100 of these technical beauties. Each will be engraved with its edition number and is paired with a dark-brown alligator leather strap. Ref. 424.025F retails for around $244,000, if you can get your hands on one.
