Timex Adds More ’70s Vibes to Its Cool Retro Chronograph Watch

How do you make a 1970s-inspired chronograph feel even more faithful to the era? Add a two-tone motif!
That's exactly what Timex did to the Q Timex Continental Chronograph, which was originally introduced only two months ago. Better still, the gold-toned detailing is layered over a black dial and bezel.

The Continental Chronograph elaborates on the Continental GMT introduced almost exactly a year ago. It maintains the faceted case with angled lugs flowing into an integrated bracelet.
A prominent Q Timex logo, fine-gauge snailed dial texture, baton applied hour markers and fencepost hour and minute hands are also carried over to the chronograph. The rectangular lollipop seconds hand is repurposed as a chronograph seconds hand.

The Continental's novel, intriguing GMT disc, viewed through a curved aperture, is replaced by a rather unusual bicompax chronograph arrangement. Naturally, given it's part of the Q Timex collection, the movement is quartz.
There are two sunken subdials, both gold-toned in this case, with a standard small seconds display at 9:00, but rather than a totalizer, a synched 24-hour time dial is located at 3:00.
Tone deft
The Continental Chronograph debuted with two can't-miss color schemes: a blue dial with a matching bezel and a silver reverse panda. Both came on H-link steel integrated bracelets.

This update gets a bit bolder with a black dial with gold-toned subdials, hour markers, hands and an applied Q logo. The black-and-gilt motif spills over onto the unidirectional rotating bezel with a gold 60-minute scale and pip on a black insert, held by a gilded coin-edge frame.
A gold-tone finish is added to the pushers and Q-signed crown to complete the look. The upper pusher starts and stops the one-hour chronograph complication, while the lower pusher resets it.

The other big update with this reference is the integrated brown leather strap, which, of course, features a gilded pin buckle. It's a relatively thick leather strap with an oiled and waxed finish to prevent moisture damage and cracking.
Availability and pricing
I'm a sucker for black-and-gilt watches, and two-tone is never a bad choice if you're going for a retro look.
If you're looking for something safer and more versatile, go with one of the debut models. The new Continental Chronograph is a great option for spicing up your watch collection without breaking the bank.
