Finding the best bra is truly a feat that deserves congratulations, especially if you have a large bust since it's even trickier (and pricier) for us. It can seem like the options are far more limited and sizing far more inconsistent as cup sizes increase, leaving the large-chested among us frustrated at the seeming lack of choices. Where are the bras for large breasts that actually lift and support while looking stylish at the same time?!
In this story
The good news is that they are out there. We found some great options, relying on the expertise of bra designers, pro fitters and our own shopping editors to weigh in on the best bras for large breasts. We considered comfort, support, fit and, of course, real-world reviews to find the most flattering, feel-good options out there for larger cup sizes.
Whether you're after a buttery-soft wireless bra , a full-coverage everyday bra, a support bra that doesn't sacrifice style or a sports bra to keep you secure, we've got you covered — literally.
Material: 84% nylon, 16% spandex | Sizes: 30B-40H | Colors: 5 | Style: T-Shirt | Coverage: Demi
Why we love it:Designed with large cup sizes in mind, this bra is a longtime editor favorite. "It's basically the only bra I wear," said Senior Style Editor Jessica Teich , who's been repurchasing the bra in size 32DDD since 2012. "It's one of the rare bras that fits true to size: No spill-over, no pinching, no weird gaping. Best of all, it's truly comfortable; more comfortable than any bralette, wireless or even sports bra."
What experts say: "This bra fits comfortably and lifts without digging in or hurting my shoulders or back, and looks great while managing to be more comfortable than any loungewear bra I've tried (seriously!). It's also the only — the only ever — bra I've worn where the shoulder straps don't slip off or dig in," Teich says. The adjustments can loosen over time, though, she adds.
What reviewers say:"I didn't even have to readjust the bra after lifting my arms, and it was totally invisible under the thin fabric," said one reviewer . "I had been wearing bras all wrong for years. This bra changed my life. I love it and I am ordering in every color."
Keep in mind:While most customers raved about the fit and style, a few mentioned feeling that the lace was scratchy which is something to note if you tend to be sensitive to certain fabrics. Also, take a look at the size chart before hitting purchase as your size in Wacoal products may differ from your size in other brands.
- Comfortable, flattering fit for larger breasts
- Straps and band are supportive without digging
- Long-lasting, durable construction
- Shoulder-strap adjustments can slip over time
Materials:82% nylon, 18% spandex | Sizes:32-56 bands; B-H cups | Colors:2 | Style:Balconette | Coverage: Demi
Why we love it:On this budget-friendly bra, the balconette shape gives your girls a boost, and the wide, supportive straps are fully adjustable to help you find your ideal fit without digging into your shoulders. The supportive, molded cups have a hidden underwire that's designed not to dig in to your chest.
What experts say:"This is a great everyday bra that offers support and a sexy lift," says Dora Lau, founder of intimate apparel company Dora L International . We also love that it's available in ample sizes, with bands up to 56 and cups up to an H.
What reviewers say:Over 2000 shoppers have given this bra a 5-star review. One satisfied customer wrote: "This bra fits well and is true to size. This is the only bra I will buy." Another raved, "This is the best bra on the market," citing the comfort of the wider band as one of their favorite features.
Keep in mind:The slightly-thicker straps of this bra may not be compatible with all tank tops. Also, one shopper recommended purchasing the size that fits snugly in anticipation of the bra stretching out slightly over time.
- Budget-friendly
- Thick straps and supportive band
- Wide range of sizes
- Limited color options
Materials:78% nylon, 22% spandex | Sizes:36C-42H | Colors:9 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage: Full plunge
Why we love it:If you're looking to downplay your cup size, this minimizer claims it can reduce the protrusion of your bust line by up to 1.5 inches. Along with a built-in underwire, it boasts two non-padded cups that comfortably cover and support your breasts without adding any extra bulk.
What experts say: "Depending on the bra style and if you need a larger cup size, you might look for side panels or a wide back band and straps. These details are more critical in bras for people with fuller busts," Dale says. This option checks those boxes, with wide side and back bands that are made from a four-way stretch material that smooths any bumps and bulges.
What reviewers say: One happy customer reported: "Full coverage, minimizing and comfortable! Best bra I've found in a long time. I am very large-chested, and it is extremely difficult to find comfortable, affordable and nice bras!"
Keep in mind:Depending on the size that you purchase, the hook-and-eye clasp of your bra will either be 2, 3, or 4 hooks tall. Also, since this bra is completely unpadded, it may not offer significant nipple coverage.
- Budget-friendly
- Minimizes up to 1.5 inches
- Comfortable, smoothing fit
- Limited band sizes (36-42)
Materials:80% polyamide, 20% spandex | Bra sizes:32A-42G | Colors:3 | Style:Strapless | Coverage: Full
Why we love it: Want a strapless bra that actually stays up on large breasts? This one has exposed Spandex to grip onto skin and prevent sliding, and there's a cushioned hook-and-eye back closure with four rows that'll keep your strapless bra secure. Oh, and if you end up loving this bra so much that you want to wear it on occasions that don't call for a strapless, it comes with optional straps that can be worn multiple ways!
What experts say:Lau loves this bra because "it has the softest fabric and no wires to dig and doesn't slip down." That's a rare combo! Because all of the support is coming from the band, the four rows of clasps will help keep the bra for moving around.
What reviewers say:"The most comfortable strapless bra I have ever owned!" said one fan. "I have bought many strapless options over the years and this is the first one that I don't have to take off the minute I get in the door. Excellent product! I found [it] true to size."
Keep in mind:Note that this bra is padded and the padding is not removable. If you tend to prefer bras that minimize your silhouette or typically avoid anything that adds volume to your chest, you might not love the bulk.
- Spandex lining helps keep bra from slipping
- Removable straps that can be worn multiple ways
- Cushioned hook-and-eye closure
- Some customers disliked the amount of padding
Materials:82% nylon, 18% spandex | Sizes:38-54 bands; B-K cups | Colors:10 | Style:Wireless | Coverage: Full
Why we love it:With thick, adjustable straps, a wide underband, stretch-fit cups and side- and back-smoothing panels, this wireless bra is designed to be equal parts comfortable and supportive. It also comes in eight different styles, including pretty pastels and fun animal prints that are more interesting than the typical nude shades that busty bras come in.
What experts say:Lau recommends this wire-free bra "for the ultimate in comfort with very light pads that lift and shape with a covered comfort and padded straps." It's a great plus-size bra too, with bands that go up to 54", though there aren't a lot of options for smaller band sizes (38 is the lowest).
What reviewers say: "Very comfortable with amazingly smooth fabric that provides great support!" said one shopper. "Had a bra fitting and the young lady did a great job on my size. Love both bras she found for me to try after specifying no wires and black. I bought both and will purchase another of the same as soon as I can."
Keep in mind:Since this is a plunge style, it may not contain things as well as a more full-coverage bra. Thankfully, the straps can be adjusted accordingly to make sure that you're being properly supported.
- Budget-friendly
- Thick, defined underband supports and prevents "underboob"
- Smoothing panels and wide straps
- Band sizing only starts at 38
Materials:87% polyamide, 13% elastane | Sizes:28-38 bands; B-HH cups | Colors:6 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage: Full
Why we love it:Sleek and stylish, this Freya bra smooths out lumps and bumps up to an HH cup and down to a 28 band, making it a rare gem for anyone shopping for a small band, large cup combination. This full-coverage balconette bra has molded cups and adjustable straps that make it great for bigger chests.
What experts say: Freya is a go-to brand for Elisabeth Dale, author of The Bra Zone and founder of the Breast Life . "Full-cup bras are super comfy for that eight-hour everyday bra," Dale says. This one is also among our picks for best support bras .
What reviewers say: One five-star Amazon reviewer wrote , "If you're slim in the rib cage but have larger cups, then this bra is a must-try! I ordered my true size, 28F, and haven't worn anything else since. If you're on the fence, just go for it. Can be worn comfortably all day. The girls stay facing forward, high and proud, and stay put all day. There's no spillage."
Keep in mind:Since this is a full-cup, full-coverage style, the tops of the bra cups may show under certain necklines (think plunge or V-necks). Also, it unfortunately only goes up to a 38" band, which is generally considered to be the starting point for a plus-size bra.
- Extended smaller band sizes
- Great lift without looking unnatural
- Expert favorite
- Not plus-size-friendly
Material:84% nylon, 16% spandex | Bra sizes:28-42 bands; B-H cups | Colors:15 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage: Full
Why we love it:Spacer bras are meant to function as lightweight alternatives to a regular T-shirt bra. Plus, if you need extra support on your sides, this bra has extra-wide straps that increase with size. It's constructed with two layers of fabric on the side wings for added side support.
What experts say:Wearers say its material is light and breathable, so you'll feel like you're barely wearing a bra. Plus, it's supportive for all-day wear and creates a lovely round shape, and hook-and-eye columns increase with size to provide more support.
What reviewers say: "This is the most comfortable underwire bra I have found," said a buyer. "The cups have the perfect light amount of padding for a natural look, but still a good shape. I love that the hardware is metal and not plastic, it makes the bra feel more elevated."
Keep in mind:Some customers noted that the bra does tend to run a little big. "I ordered my regular size and I have to wear it on the middle hook because the outside hook is a little too loose," the same buyer continued.
- Extra side support
- Extended band, cup sizes
- Strap width and hook columns increase with size
- May run large
Materials:80% polyamide, 20% elastane | Sizes:32C-46I | Colors:4 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage: Full
Why we love it:Anyone with a larger bust knows the pain of choosing between a bra that looks good and one that will actually support them. This PrimaDonna option is both fashionable and functional, with feminine lace and ample support and coverage. It's one of the rare picks that offers all cup sizes and all band sizes in every combination.
What experts say:Dale is a fan, saying the brand is "pricey but worth every cent." That's thanks to deep molded cups that provide excellent lift for large breasts, ample side support that smooths out any lumps, and pretty details that make the bra stand out from the crowd.
What reviewers say: One five-star Amazon reviewer wrote , "As a large-breasted woman, this bra is marvelous. I've been buying them for years and still wear the old ones even though they are very worn-looking. This bra holds the girls where they need to be, and the underwires do not pinch or stab you. No muffin tops either. Just a great-fitting bra. Well worth the money."
Keep in mind:Some reviewers found that they ran into fit issues when ordering based off of the size they typically buy. Instead, refer to the PrimaDonna size chart and measuring guide to find your perfect fit before purchasing.
- Deep cups with ample side support
- Padding-free style lifts without added bulk
- Wide range of sizes
- Pretty lace design
- On the pricier side
Materials:84% polyamide, 16% spandex | Sizes:30A-40H | Colors:7 | Style:Push-up | Coverage: Demi
Why we love it:Along with mesh-lined cups that boast vertical and darted seams for lift, this best push-up bra features a comfortable underwire, adjustable straps that can form a crisscross pattern, and scalloped lace detailing for a feminine touch. This bra also has foam side slings within each cup for an extra lifting effect.
What experts say:"The bra lifts and separates really well, and I like how thick the lacy material is. It gives extra coverage, but it is still comfy and supportive at the same time," says bra fit expert Kristin Polin.
What reviewers say: Shoppers of all sizes rave about how much they love this bra. One wrote : "FAVORITE bra EVER. I'm a 38DDD and the girls don't have a lot of support on their own. This bra makes them look perky without making it look bigger. I might actually crash out if they don't ever restock. Not to mention the straps are convertible for a cross back or halter style."
Keep in mind:This bra doesn't have padding (aka headlights coverage) and it also features a pretty noticeable seam down the front of the bra cup. While that seam is no accident — it's designed to create a rounded shape — you may prefer to wear this bra under thicker shirts, sweatshirts, or sweaters.
- Size-inclusive brand
- Ample lift
- Adjustable, convertible straps
- Vertical center seam may create unwanted lines
Materials:96% polyamide, 4% elastane | Sizes:32-46 bands; D-N cups | Colors:4 | Style:Plunge | Coverage: Full
Why we love it:Kimmay Caldwell, undergarment educator at HurrayKimmay.com , says pretty much all Elomi bras are great for large breasts, but she loves this one in particular because "it has seams for support, including side support, plus fully adjustable, convertible straps, an amazing size range and a plunge front." This one will stay hidden under lower-cut tops without compromising on support.
What experts say:"It's hard to find a more plunging front for full busts, but this center gore is lower and the bra keeps breast tissue in place," says Caldwell. The straps can be converted into a racerback thanks to the J-hook, and there's an underwire for added lift and support.
What reviewers say:One happy Nordstrom shopper wrote: "I have bought this specific bra in multiple colors and I love it! It's so hard to feel sexy when you're a HH in bra sizes, but this bra gives me confidence and the support I need at the same time!" Another reviewer who self-described as "well-endowed and [someone who] must have support" said that this was the first push-up bra they had ever purchased and loved.
Keep in mind:If you tend to be sensitive to scratchy fabrics, the structured support of this bra may be irritating to your skin. A few customers noted that the bra felt stiff upon first wear.
- Highly adjustable and versatile
- Convertible straps
- Wide range of large cup sizes
- May feel stiff or limiting due to support
Materials:49% polyamide, 36% polyester, 15% spandex | Sizes:28-40 bands; B-J cups | Colors:4 | Style:Sports | Coverage: Full
Why we love it:All-around support is crucial when you're working out, and this underwire bra with wide, cushioned straps claims to reduce bounce by 83%. The hook-and-eye closure has three columns and three rows for secure band support, and yes, it does have underwire, but the underwire is encased in silicone to reduce accidental wire pokes.
What experts say:It has encapsulated cups that support each breast individually to prevent the dreaded "uniboob" look that even the best sports bras can create. It can also transform into a racerback bra with the use of a J-hook, and it has smooth, flat seams to prevent chafing during workouts.
What reviewers say: One reviewer writes : "I love this sports bra, and I wear it as my everyday bra. After having my child, I needed amazing support, and I found this bra. I'm a 30GG, and I hope Panache never stops making this sports bra."
Keep in mind: Because the foam cups built into this bra are designed to stay in place and create separation, they are not removable. This may be a minor issue if you prefer something that molds more to your breast shape.
- High-impact support
- Encapsulated hold reduces bounce
- Convertible straps
- Goes down to a 28" band
- Padding is not removable
Materials:82% nylon, 18% spandex | Sizes:34-44 bands; C-I cups | Colors:6 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage: Full
Why we love it: If you want a bra that disappears under even tight-fitting T-shirts, this pretty unlined lace bra has mesh panels at the top of the cups that all but guarantee a seamless look under tops. It also features a U-shaped leotard-style back with a wider band for a smoothing effect.
What experts say: Lau is a fan of this retro-inspired bra because "it goes up to size J and is a great way to get both support and style." This full-coverage bra comfortably offers lift, shaping and support — everything you want from a bra. Its straps are fully adjustable, and it has a hook-and-eye closure at the back that makes it easier to find a secure fit.
What reviewers say: "I just bought two of the Retro Chic Full Figure Bras and I love them," one shopper said. "They pick 'the girls' up and there's no bulging from the top of the bra. These bras are very comfortable and lightweight as well!"
Keep in mind:This bra may show under lower-cut tops. Also, note that the hook-and-eye clasp only has three hooks on a slightly thinner back band.
- Disappears beneath tight-fitting clothing
- Unlined cups have ample underwire lift
- Expert favorite
- May show if worn with lower necklines
Materials:93% polyamide, 7% spandex | Bra sizes:30-40 bands; D-J cups | Colors:1 | Style:Demi | Coverage:Full
Why we love it:Don't let the lingerie-like look fool you, this isn't one of those bras that looks pretty and does nothing else. The full-cup, non-padded lacy style gives a rounded and natural shape, while the power mesh at the back boosts ventilation and provides ample support.
What experts say:Having a full bust does not have to mean you're stuck with boring bras, says Caldwell. "Panache is known for their small-band, full-bust bras, and this Allure style is stunning and supportive," she says.
What reviewers say:"This bra is the most comfortable bra I own, I love it! The lace is soft but the fit is perfect, no need for stiff scratchy lace!" raved a customer.
Keep in mind:The lace cups have a slight stretch to them, making them able to accommodate anyone who has breasts that differ slightly in size. Also, larger sizes have the added benefit of additional hooks.
- Stylish lace detailing
- Breathable, unpadded design
- Supportive underwire allows good lift
- On the pricier side
How we test bras for large breasts
To figure out which bras for large breasts deserved a spot on our list, we talked to bra experts, fashion designers and our own team of shopping experts with bra sizes up to 32G and plus sizes. All weighed in on the standout bras for large busts that truly deliver all they claim, whether that's comfort, lift, separation or all of the above.
We considered each bra's availability and size range, colors and customer feedback on styles from wireless to strapless to everyday T-shirt bras and push-ups. The bras we selected strike a balance of comfort, support, style and durability — and they're the ones that actually work for large cup sizes, according to real women and expert testers.
Factors to consider when choosing a bra for large breasts
Bras can be an investment — make sure you're spending wisely by considering these expert tips.
Size
As with any bra, finding your correct size is essential to staying comfortable and supported. "Bras are like shoes — the wrong size will feel awful," says Caldwell. Not up for a professional fitting? See below for more on how to measure your size at home.
Type of cup
In general, larger busts need roomier cups, so you might look for a "deep cup with lots of forward projection if you want to avoid a very wide look," Caldwell says. Lau adds, "the cup should also have a bit of stretch, but not too much, to offer the support, comfort and shape needed for larger sizes."
Support
Every bust needs support, but especially larger ones. Caldwell suggests opting for bras with thick seams as they "not only shape the cup more forward, but they act like support beams on a bridge." Thicker bands are also necessary, as the band provides up to 90% of the bra's support. "The fuller the bust, the more work the band needs to do, so a wide, adjustable band, preferably made with some kind of power mesh or slightly firmer elastic, is a great idea," she adds.
Straps
When it comes to bras for bigger breasts, the wider the straps, the better, experts say. "Wider straps provide increased comfort and support for those with fuller figures wearing larger cup sizes," Lau says. In particular, she recommends wide straps without stretch, saying they're more likely to give you the all-day lift and support you need.
FAQs
What is considered a large breast size?
Traditionally, anything over a D cup has been considered a large bust size. However, Caldwell says that bra cups range in size from AAA to S these days, so even D cups can feel on the smaller side. "My bra-fit students and I agree that 'full bust' is anything over a U.S. cup size H in modern bras. If that feels uncommon, that's because big-box stores still only stock bras up to a DDD (which is an F) and haven't caught up to proper fit, real sizes and inclusive brands," she says.
Are underwires necessary for larger busts?
You may think that underwires are a no-brainer for providing the support larger busts need, but that's not the case. "They’re totally optional, even for fuller busts," Caldwell says. "As long as the bra fits well, going wire-free can still provide the level of support and shape a full-busted person desires." Lau agrees, saying that modern bras have come a long way. "The benefits of today's technology make wireless bras perform just as effectively as with wires."
How can I measure to find my bra size?
Using a soft tape measure, "wrap the tape measure snugly (but not tightly) around your rib cage," says Noemi Diaz-Justino, senior design director of lingerie brand True & Co . "Next, wrap the tape loosely around the fullest part of your bust. Now subtract the rib measurement from the bust measurement. The difference will determine your cup size."
