I'm all too familiar with the niche set of struggles that come with finding the best bras for small chests. I've tried bras of the same size across different brands only to find that some were so large I felt like a child playing dress-up in my mom's underwear drawer, while others were somehow too small, creating spillage and that weird double-boob effect under tops. And while some may assume that a simple bralette or sports bra is enough for a smaller bust, many still prefer a little nip coverage and some light shaping and lift to create a smooth silhouette under tops.

Because my life has been one long search for the best bras for a small bust, I decided to take things one step further and use all of my knowledge — the years of bra try-on fails and successes — to assemble this list. I had other staffers with A- and B-cup bra sizes test multiple bras and rate them on fit, comfort, support and durability. Here are the best bras for small chests — styles that come in small band sizes, sit flush against the skin and are comfortable enough for all-day wear.

Best bras for small chests of 2026

Victoria's Secret/Yahoo

Sizes:30A-42G | Materials:67% recycled polyamide, 33% elastane | Colors:56 | Style:Demi | Coverage:Demi

Why we love it: When I got sized at Victoria's Secret, this was the bra that my sales associate recommended — and it's become the most-worn bra ever since. The low-cut demi cups are made of a smooth, soft material and sit flush against the skin without any gaping. The underwire is padded and never digs, offering a nice lift without being a full push-up, and the little, pretty details like the subtle lace trim and tiny bow are the cherry on top.

What testers say:Assistant Editor Isabelle Paquette gives this bra a flawless 5/5 across categories — it's the only bra that received a perfect score in our entire testing pool. "I absolutely loved everything about this bra," she raves, describing the fit as "perfection." And while underwire can get a bad rap, Paquette notes, "This is hands-down the most comfortable traditional underwire bra I have ever put on my body. The super-soft, double-lined sides smooth out the underarm area and the wire never pinched or dug into my skin."

Keep in mind:Paquette writes, "To be entirely honest, there is really nothing that I genuinely disliked because it checked every single box for me." And I'd agree! My only note is that after a year of non-stop wear and washing, I'm starting to see a tiny bit of pilling along the sides where my arm rubs against the bra band. It doesn't affect wear at all, though, and by the time it's noticeable, I'll probably just buy another one.

Pros
  • Large range of colors including several shades of neutrals
  • Excellent fit, very comfortable
  • Smooth texture that looks great even under thin tops
  • Cute bow embellishment
Cons
  • Fabric eventually pills a little

Amazon/Yahoo

Sizes:S-XXL | Materials:87% nylon, 13% spandex | Colors:22 | Style:Sports bra | Coverage:Full

Why we love it:  A cool girl staple, these cropped bra tanks are everywhere. You could wear this affordable Amazon option as a lounge bra, sports bra or just on its own with some high-waisted leggings — it's flattering, comfortable, surprisingly compressive and available in over 20 colors.

What our testers say: I've reached for this for everything from a lazy day at home to a full-on Barry's Bootcamp class. Perks of having small boobs — you can get away with wearing a padded tank as a bra. While it's not as buttery-soft to the touch as my bra tanks from more luxury athleisure brands like Lululemon, it's definitely comfortable enough for hours of wear.

Keep in mind: The straps are on the shorter side and they aren't adjustable — however, I'm usually shortening my straps anyway, so this wasn't an issue for me. Also, if the padding shifts around and sticks out the neckline, just readjust it — I have to zhuzh it upon arrival but haven't needed to fix anything since.

Pros
  • Very comfortable for working out and lounging
  • Lots of color options
  • Good compression
  • Stretchy and fits well
Cons
  • Not as buttery-soft
  • Padding is a little big

Pepper/Yahoo

Sizes:30A-42B | Materials:75% polyamide, 25% elastane | Colors:22 | Style:Push-up | Coverage:Demi

Why we love it: Most push-up bras use targeted padding on the bottom and sides to push cleavage inward or upward. But Pepper takes things one step further in its bras specifically designed for AA, A and B cups with extra-shallow cups. This helps reduce gaping, and it also creates a dramatic and noticeable push-up effect.

What our testers say: If you've been disappointed by lumpy, oversized push-up bras in the past and are looking for some va-va-voom that actually works, try this bra. I swear there's magic woven in that instantly makes it look like you've added at least one, if not two cup sizes.

Keep in mind: My usual size was sold out when I initially bought this bra, so I purchased my sister size (aka going up a band size and down a cup size, which is theoretically supposed to give a very similar fit). However, I found that the band was quite loose and loosened even more over time, so I'd recommend sticking to your original size if at all possible.

Pros
  • Drastic push-up effect
  • Shallow cups help minimize gaping
  • Specifically designed for AA, A and B cups
Cons
  • Band may be a little loose

Natori/Yahoo

Sizes:30A-38DD | Materials:84% nylon, 16% spandex | Colors:15 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage:Plunge

Why we love it:This pretty bra has a truly barely-there feel. It lives up to its name with feather-light construction and delicate lace — the plunge cups are quite thin, yet sturdy. If you like a bra that offers minimal shaping and a natural look under shirts, the Natori Feathers bra will take the cake.

What our testers say:I like to think of this bra as the prettiest "comfy bra" in my drawer. While it's not full-on lingerie, it's the nicest of my daily options. The band definitely runs a little small — I got my usual band size and had to give it a little tug to hook it on the outermost clasp. But I'll take a band that's a little snug over one that's too loose any day, since the band is where my bras usually stretch out first.

Keep in mind:I wore this bra for several hours one day and found that the lace became a little itchy about four hours in. I docked a point off of comfort due to the minor skin irritation, but I think the lace will soften up after a few wash cycles so I'll keep wearing it.

Pros
  • Thin, sturdy cups
  • Comfortable with a pretty design
  • Light shaping and natural look under tops
  • Snug band
Cons
  • Lace may get a little itchy over time

Victoria's Secret PINK

Sizes:30AA–44G | Materials:86% recycled polyamide, 14% elastane | Colors:77 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage:Full

Why we love it: While you may think of sweatsuit sets and campus fashion when you think of PINK, it's also a bra powerhouse (makes sense, since it's the younger sister brand of Victoria's Secret). Available in almost 80 different colors, lace options and both front-close and back-close styles, this classic style offers plenty of options.

What our testers say: I've been wearing this bra since I was 16 years old — not the exact one, of course, but I've owned at least six colors. It's my Old Faithful bra that works under anything and everything. The padding is subtle and natural, it offers great shaping under both fitted and looser tops and I've gotten multiple years of use out of each one.

Keep in mind: The gore — aka that center piece that connects the two bra cups — starts to stretch out over time. I've found that it tends to get twisted up in the wash, which exacerbates the stretching. Putting your bras in lingerie bags before throwing them in the washing machine can help prevent this.

Pros
  • Classic T-shirt style that looks great under tops
  • Surprising longevity
  • Comes in dozens of colors and closure styles
Cons
  • Center gore stretches out eventually

Pepper/Yahoo

Sizes:30A-42B | Materials:75% polyamide, 25% elastane | Colors:6 | Style:Wireless push-up | Coverage:Plunge

Why we love it: Why yes, this is an underwire-free push-up bra, and yes, it does defy gravity. I had my doubts when I initially got my hands on Pepper's Zero-G bra (despite being a fan of the brand) but it's both comfortable and impressive. Earning a 4.4/5 overall score, testers loved the no-slip straps and how secure the bra felt.

What our testers say: "The cups fit nicely and provide a really substantial lift that genuinely rivals a standard underwire push-up bra," says Paquette, who gave it a 4.8/5 for support. Yahoo Strategic Partnership Manager Chrissy Garcia feels similarly, praising how the bra stays in place with a 5/5 score and writing that it fits "better than some of the other bras out there on the market." Garcia likes how the cups fit flat against her skin, while Paquette appreciates the low-cut plunge for styling flexibility.

Keep in mind: Garcia notes that she typically prefers bras with wider side wings for a smoother effect. Paquette also commented on the band, noting that she isn't a huge fan of the mesh material because it looks a little cheaper.

Pros
  • Push-up effect is comparable to an underwire bra
  • Secure fit and no-slip straps
  • Plunge style works nicely under lots of necklines
Cons
  • Band is on the thinner side and made of mesh

ThirdLove/Yahoo

Sizes:32AA-44H | Materials:76% nylon, 24% spandex | Colors:8 | Style:T-shirt | Coverage:Plunge

Why we love it:If you're smack-dab in between two different cup sizes and can never really figure out where to land, ThirdLove is one of the few major bra companies that offers half-cup sizing. This bra is also great for anyone with asymmetrical breasts, as the padded inserts can be removed on one or both sides, allowing you to customize the fit. And the mesh overlay on top of the cups helps the bra to lie nicely and flat against the skin.

What our testers say:The 24/7 Classic Uplift is super comfy. I can wear it for more than 12 hours (I've worn it on some long-haul flights!) without feeling like I need to unhook it as soon as possible. The cups are fairly thin, so occasionally you might get some nipple poke-through, but overall it's a very comfortable and natural-looking bra.

Keep in mind:ThirdLove's band sizing starts at a 32 rather than a 30. On top of that, I've found that ThirdLove bras run slightly big overall.

Pros
  • Available in a rare half-size cup option
  • Removable inserts to accommodate asymmetrical breasts
  • Cups lie flat and offer natural shaping
  • Pretty mesh detailing sits nicely against skin
Cons
  • Runs a little big
  • Not available in a size 30 band

Pepper/Yahoo

Sizes:32AA-40B | Materials:93% polyamide, 7% elastane | Colors:7 | Style:Strapless | Coverage:Full

Why we love it:If I could kiss this bra on the mouth, I would. Because it doesn't have any straps, all the support and security have to come from the band — and it's secure. There's a grippy lining that circles the entire band, and it's stayed grippy through multiple washes. The band itself is nice and snug as well, and there are also optional straps that you can hook on if you so choose.

What our testers say:This is the bra that is single-handedly getting me through wedding season. I've attended and been a bridesmaid for multiple ceremonies where my attire required a strapless bra, and this one is so secure and reliable that I don't think I've needed to tug it up once at any wedding I've attended. That's right — I have never needed to readjust it while wearing it, and I usually forget I'm wearing it at all.

Keep in mind:This is not a push-up bra. It won't create cleavage, so if you're looking for a boost, I'd stick with chicken cutlets.

Pros
  • Extremely secure and doesn't slip at all
  • Non-slip silicone interior band
  • Optional straps
Cons
  • Doesn't create cleavage

Lululemon/Yahoo

Sizes:2-14 | Materials:75% nylon, 25% elastane | Colors:4 | Style:Sports bra | Coverage:Moderate

Why we love it: This Lululemon sports bra leans into all the glorious parts of having a smaller chest — the light-as-air feel, the thin, fixed straps, the sleek silhouette, the fact that the entire front is made of a thin, cushy foam material instead of using padded inserts that get twisted up in the wash. It's delicate and pretty yet shockingly supportive enough to wear while running on a treadmill (for just a mile, mind you, but running nonetheless). While it's designed to be worn as a sports bra, it's minimal and sleek enough that you could easily wear it under tops without V-necklines.

What our testers say: Home Editor Elizabeth Berry gave this bra a glowing 4.9/5 overall: "The material felt thick and substantial, but still breathable," she writes. "I actually appreciated that this style had very subtle padding that made me feel more secure while working out in a cold gym." And Berry notes that she doesn't usually wear padded sports bras, but thinks that the shaping this one offers "is a nice touch."

Keep in mind: This bra runs on the smaller side, as a lot of Lululemon items tend to. Both Berry and I sized up and found the fit to be perfect.

Pros
  • Soft foam front lining offers light shaping
  • Delicate design and pretty neckline
  • High-quality material
  • Surprisingly secure
Cons
  • Runs small

How we tested bras for small chests

Here's a full breakdown of how we test bras : a multi-week, in-depth process that involves ordering dozens of bras for 15 different testers, hours of wear-testing and multiple surveys. The first round of testing resulted in nearly 1,200 responses and data points.

Our full testing pool has folks of varying body types and a wide range of sizes. But to determine which bras would be featured on this list, we looked at feedback from our testers who wear A and B cups. Most listed loose bands, gaping cups or slipping straps as pain points, so we analyzed their feedback surveys and picked out winners that offered close-to-the-skin cups that didn't gape, properly fitted bands, great support and flattering lift.

What to consider when shopping for bras for small chests

Size

Knowing your bra size is a crucial first step, though sizing and measurement methods can vary by brand. You can either pop into a store and get measured by a bra-fitting professional or measure yourself at home. For the latter, grab a soft tape measure and follow these steps in front of a mirror:

  • Wrap the tape measure snuglyaround your ribcage, directly under your bust, keeping it parallel to the floor. Round to the nearest whole number — this measurement can be used as a starting point for your band size.

  • Next, measure loosely around the fullest part of your bust, making sure the tape measure is level.

  • To find your cup size, subtract your band measurement from your bust measurement. Each inch of difference typically corresponds to a cup size:

    • 1 inch = A cup

    • 2 inches = B cup

    • 3 inches = C cup

    • 4 inches = D cup

    • 5 inches = DD

    • 6 inches = DDD (or E, depending on the brand)

Design

If you've historically struggled to find a bra that fits properly, it may be because smaller-sized bras aren't always designed for smaller busts. "Most brands don't tailor their smaller sizes," notes Belinda Jacobs , a designer and product developer at Tech Packs Co. "They build a master pattern for a 36C and have software shrink it down." So while a bra may technically be your size, that "rarely equals a good fit," according to Jacobs, who explains that simply scaling down a larger bra pattern can leave the proportions off — cups may be too deep or placed too far apart for a smaller band.

Instead, she recommends finding a brand that caters to smaller sizes and uses patterns that better fit a smaller bust. Pepper is one of our favorite small-bust-friendly brands, but we also found great options from bigger retailers like Victoria's Secret , ThirdLove , Lululemon and more.

Style

"Everyone's shape is different, so the best style is ultimately the one that follows the natural shape of your bust and sits smoothly against your body," says Tracey Cohen , owner of Illusions Lingerie and senior bra fitter at Tuck & Bind . Here are some styles that our experts recommend trying:

  • Plunge: "Anything with a tall triangle cup or really full coverage is more likely to leave empty space and gape," says Jacobs, so a plunge bra is a good solution. They're a great non-bulky option to wear under low-cut tops if you like to show off a little cleavage.

  • Balconettestyles cut straight across the chest with a more horizontal cup rather than trying to cover the top of the breast. If you carry most of your volume in the lower half of your chest, this style is worth trying.

  • Demibras are similar to balconettes in that they're more of a half-cup style, but they dip lower in the middle, making them a more versatile option for various necklines.

Support

People with smaller cup sizes may have more flexibility in support and structure, which, Cohen points out, "gives you a little more freedom when choosing styles." Wireless styles and unstructured bralettes can be great options if comfort is your top priority. Others prefer the shaping and lifting of an underwire bra — you'll find several solid underwire options on this list. "Ultimately, the right bra is whatever feels comfortable, secure and doesn't have you wanting to rip it off as soon as you get home," Cohen explains.

Adjustability

Even though we established that not every bra in a smaller size is actually designed with a smaller chest in mind, adjustability can help you fine-tune the fit. A bra that can be zhuzhed and tweaked to fit your body more snugly is more likely to fit properly, so look for adjustable straps that can be tightened or lengthened, as well as bands that fit snugly on the loosest hook when new, which gives you room to tighten the band as it stretches over time.

Bras for small chests FAQs

Why does gaping happen on people with smaller busts, and how do you prevent it?

"Smaller breast tissue sits shallower against the chest wall," says Jacobs. "The bra is projecting forward, but the body isn't, which leaves a pocket of empty air at the top. When a brand shrinks a C cup down to an A or B cup, they usually keep the same 'projection' — meaning the cup stays too deep." Everyone carries their breast volume differently too, whether it's more volume on the outer sides or at the bottom of the breast, so you'll want to look for a bra cut that fits your breast shape.

Are there any cuts or styles that someone with a small bust should avoid?

"There really isn't one style that women with smaller busts need to avoid completely," Cohen says. The best way to find the bra styles you like and dislike is to try on a variety of cuts and see which ones feel best. I personally avoid bras that are super full coverage, leaning toward half-cup styles like demi bras, plunges and balconettes, but it all comes down to a matter of personal preference.
