If you've got curves, then you know that the struggle of finding a pair of decent-fitting jeans is real. The waist gaps when the hips fit; the thighs fit too tight when the waist works; you finally find a pair of jeans that seems perfect, only for them to stretch out after an hour. It's exhausting to say the least. And if I'm being honest, it's made me avoid shopping for jeans more than I'd like to admit.

Enter the best jeans for curvy women. Curvy jeans aren't just regular jeans offered in larger sizes: they're designed with extra room through the hips and thighs along with a proportionally smaller waistto actually prevent that dreaded gap. "For women who are curvier, the curvy fit jean's greatest strength is fitting at the waist and finally eliminating the gapping at the back while still giving enough room in the hips," said Jamie Lewin, stylist, former design director for Gap and founder of fashion edit Vetted . But even within the realm of curvy jeans, not all are created equal.

As a shopping editor with over 13 years of experience and someone who spent years working in fashion retail, I've learned what actually matters: stretch fabrics that snap back after wear, contoured waistbands that prevent gapping and proportional sizing that actually fits curvy bodies. I've combined this experience with insights from other shopping editors and also combed through Reddit threads and hundreds of verified customer reviews to bring you the best jeans for curvy women of all heights and sizes.

Sizes:23-33 | Materials:99% cotton, 1% elastane | Leg: Wide | Rise:High, 11" | Inseam options:31" (standard), 28" (petite), 34" (tall) | Stretch:Low | Colors:2 | Care:Machine wash

Why we love them:These wide-leg jeans from Madewell feature a high waist with pocket construction made to hold you in. Designed specifically for shapes with a narrower waist, they offer a contoured waistband and a longer rise with extra room at the hips and thighs. The thoughtful design is what makes them one of the most sought-after curvy jeans around.

What experts say:"Madewell's Perfect Vintage jeans are some of the most popular jeans for the brand and in the market in general," Lewin said. "The addition of the curvy fit was genius to capture a body type that struggles with the basic denim measurements."

What reviewers say:"These move well and hug in all the right places," wrote one reviewer. "I've been putting on weight and hating most jeans, but these? They turn a bad self-image day right around."

Keep in mind:A reviewer noted the jeans shrank about an inch after washing in cold water and hang drying, making them appear shorter than expected.

Pros
  • Contoured waistband and extended rise eliminates waist gapping
  • Wide-leg fit works for multiple body types
  • Available in petite, standard and tall lengths
Cons
  • May shrink after washing
  • Limited color options

Sizes:00-30 | Materials:94% cotton, 5% recycled cotton, 1% spandex | Leg: Straight | Rise:High-waisted | Inseam options:28 1/2" (petite), 30 1/2" (regular), 33 1/2" (tall) | Stretch:Low | Colors:6 | Care:Machine wash

Why we love it:This option from Old Navy features a relaxed loose leg with fuller hips and a no-gap high waist for a great streamlined fit. Sizes 00-14 offer a curvy waist that's 2 inches roomier at the hip, while sizes 16 and up feature a waist that's 1/2 inch smaller and 3/4 inch roomier at the hip.

What our editors say:I own these jeans and wear them constantly. They're my go-to for everyday wear because they feel comfortable and the secret-smooth pockets actually hold everything in without feeling restrictive. I love how high the waist sits because it really prevents gapping and keeps everything in place. The affordable price point makes them the best value in curvy denim I've found.

What reviewers say:With 4.5 stars from over 1,200 reviews, customers love the comfortable fit and stylish design. "I've bought curve jeans from other brands and love them, so I was pumped to see Old Navy has them as well and at an affordable price," wrote one reviewer.

Keep in mind:Some reviewers note these jeans fit big, so consider sizing down if you're between sizes.

Pros
  • Waist proportions adjust as sizes increase
  • Available in petite, regular and tall lengths
  • Extensive size range
Cons
  • May run large, consider sizing down

Sizes:23-38 | Materials:99% cotton, 1% elastane | Leg:Straight | Rise:High, 11.5" | Inseam options: 26.5" (extra short), 28.5" (short), 30.5" (regular), 32.5" (long), 34.5" (extra long) | Stretch:Low | Colors:10 | Care:Machine wash cold, tumble dry low

Why we love them:The fit on these jeans is great for curvy bodies. The added two inches in the hip and thigh mean there's actual room throughout the body without the waist gapping in the back. The 11.5-inch rise offers good coverage and the fabric has a bit of stretch while still holding its shape throughout the day. The best part is that these jeans are offered in an extra-long length that's hard to come by, offering a 34.5-inch inseam.

What experts say:"I'm personally a huge fan of the Abercrombie Curve Love Ultra High Rise 90s Straight Jean and really the whole Abercrombie Curve Love line in general," said Lauren Myrick, personal stylist and founder of Trendstylr . Senior deals writer Britt Ross added, "I opt for these when I want a more fitted look, and because I often have to contend with gapping at the waist, I appreciate that they come in a 'Curve Love' style that eliminates it."

What reviewers say:With 4.5 stars from over 4,500 reviews, tall shoppers rave about the fit. "I see what all the hype is about! These are very flattering and fit like they were made for me! The length is BEAUTIFUL! It's so hard for me to find pants that are long enough for me and small enough for my waist….these are them!" wrote one reviewer.

Keep in mind:Some reviewers note these run on the tighter side with not much stretch, so consider sizing up if you prefer a looser fit.

Pros
  • Five inseam options, including extra short and extra long
  • Larger sizes feature 2" extra in hip and thigh
  • Ultra high 11.5" rise sits at natural waist
Cons
  • May run on the tighter side

Sizes:00-20 | Materials:65% cotton, 20% recycled cotton, 13% polyester, 2% elastane | Leg: Flare | Rise:High, 11" | Inseam options:30" (short), 32" (regular), 34" (long) | Stretch:Medium | Colors:3 | Care:Machine wash cold inside out, tumble dry low

Why we love them:This flare jean features fabric that hugs your curves while maintaining its shape throughout the day. With an extra three inches of room in the hip and thigh, plus a high 11-inch rise that sits just below the natural waist, this style is designed specifically for curvy proportions. The short inseam option makes this an ideal choice for petite women who need both a curvy fit and a length that won't require hemming.

What our editors say:Finding curvy fit jeans that also accommodate petite heights was once challenging, but brands like American Eagle now offer styles that effectively solve both problems. These jeans provide extra room through the hip and thigh all within the option of a 30-inch short inseam to eliminate pooling and bunching at the hem.

What reviewers say:With 4.4 stars from 143 reviews, petite shoppers love the fit. "I ordered the short size since I'm 5'1" & they fit great. Perfect for curvy women," wrote one reviewer.

Keep in mind:Some reviewers note they're a bit tight on the waist.

Pros
  • Extra 3" in hip and thigh for curves
  • Short inseam perfect for petite heights
  • Resilient, high-stretch fabric
Cons
  • May run tight at the waist

Sizes:23-34 | Materials:100% cotton | Leg: Wide | Rise:Ultra-high, 12 1/2" | Inseam options:31", 33" | Stretch:None | Colors:6 | Care:Machine wash cold, tumble dry

Why we love them:Levi's Cinch Baggy jeans solve the waist gap problem with adjustable snaps at the back waistband, allowing you to customize your perfect fit. Cut with a high rise and relaxed wide straight leg, the 100% cotton denim holds its shape well and offers a classic lived-in feel over time rather than relying on stretch.

What our editors say:I often struggle to find jeans that fit both my thighs and my waist, especially when it comes to traditional non-stretch denim. I usually end up wearing jeans that are too tight on my lower half. These jeans solved that problem completely. The adjustable snap waist is a game-changer. It has two placements, and I use both depending on how I'm feeling that day.

What reviewers say:With 4.4 stars from 921 reviews, curvy shoppers share what they love about the fit. "As someone who's always struggled with finding clothes that fit due to being disproportionate (small waist and large hips) I'm always on the lookout for pants that actually fit me," wrote one reviewer. "I swear I could've cried when I looked in the mirror. No gap in the back, not too tight on the hips, snug in the waist. These fit me like baggy jeans fit 'normal' girls. They are the most perfect pants for my body type that I've ever had and I now own 3."

Keep in mind:I'd recommend sizing up one size for comfort, especially if you carry weight in your midsection like I do. I'm approximately 5'5" with long legs and bought the 31-inch inseam, but wish I'd gotten the 33-inch inseam since I prefer my baggy jeans to be a bit longer. Right now, they're about half an inch from the ground when I wear flats or sneakers. Opt for the 33-inch inseam if you're 5'4" or taller.

Pros
  • 100% cotton holds shape and develops lived-in character
  • Adjustable snap waist with two placement options
  • Trendy wide-leg fit with a flattering high rise
Cons
  • May need to size up for adjustable waist to work effectively
  • Inseam may be too short if you like longer baggy jeans

Sizes:10-30 | Materials:65% cotton, 26% rayon, 7% polyester, 2% spandex | Leg: Skinny | Rise:High | Inseam options:Extra short, short, regular (29"), tall | Stretch:High | Colors:5 | Care:Machine wash cold inside out, tumble dry low

Why we love them:Torrid's Bombshell Premium jeans combine compression and stretch for a sculpted, gap-free fit that flatters curves without feeling restrictive. The high-rise waist provides tummy control and stays put throughout the day, while the premium stretch fabric maintains its shape through multiple wears.

What experts say:Jeans with compression provide structure and support while still allowing comfortable movement. Striking that balance between hold and stretch is important for curvy fit jeans, and Torrid's Bombshell Premium line achieves this with its blend of compression and high-stretch fabric. "I prioritize a contoured waistband and mid-to-high rise that actually hugs the waist," said Nikki Venus, business style coach at Nikki Venus & Company . "Jeans should work with your body, not make you fight it in the fitting room."

What reviewers say:With 4.5 stars from over 4,500 reviews, shoppers rave about these jeans. "The perfect jeans really do exist! These jeans hug my curves like a firm hug and they actually hold their shape! Even if I wear them two days in a row. The material is thick but stretchy, and I love how the high waist holds me in. And you know they're comfortable when I don't feel inclined to shed them for leggings as soon as I get home for the day. Love them," wrote one reviewer.

Keep in mind:Some reviewers note these may fit smaller than expected, and some find they're too loose around the ankles, making them look more like straight jeans than skinny.

Pros
  • Compression and stretch for streamlined, gap-free fit
  • Four inseam lengths from extra short to tall
  • Sizes go up to 30
Cons
  • May fit smaller than expected
  • Too loose at the ankles for some

Sizes:22-33 | Materials: 98% organic cotton, 2% elastane | Leg: Barrel | Rise:Super high, 12" | Inseamoptions: 27", 29" | Stretch: Medium | Colors:7 | Care:Machine wash cold inside out, tumble dry low

Why we love them:These Everlane jeans feature the barrel leg silhouette designed for curvy figures. The 12-inch high rise offers a roomy fit through the hip and thigh, while the tapered leg hits right at the ankle for a clean, modern finish.

What our editors say:Barrel leg jeans are having a huge moment trend-wise, but the style can overwhelm curvy frames if the proportions aren't balanced. Everlane gets it right with a high-rise that anchors the waist while the wide barrel leg accommodates curves without adding bulk.

What reviewers say:With 4.6 stars from 420 reviews, curvy shoppers love the fit. "I have a curvy figure with big thighs and it's hard to find pants that make me look slim and fit well - these are it! I'm considering getting them in other colors," wrote one reviewer. Another added: "Finally a perfect fit around thighs and hips for curvy figures. So comfy!"

Keep in mind:Some reviewers note the barrel leg style balloons out too much for their preference.

Pros
  • Barrel leg proportions designed specifically for curvy thighs
  • Super high-rise fit for support
  • Tapered, ankle-length leg
Cons
  • Barrel leg may be too wide for some

Sizes:00-40 | Materials:73% cotton, 23% polyester, 4% elastane | Leg: Tapered | Rise:Mid-rise | Inseam options:Standard length | Stretch:Super stretchy | Colors:3 | Care:Machine wash cold inside out, hang dry

Why we love them:These Universal Standard jeans offer the comfort of an elastic back waist without the frumpy look. By removing the traditional back yoke and adding shaping darts, the brand created a streamlined fit that works for curvy bodies while feeling as cozy as your favorite sweatpants.

What our editors say:While testing Universal Standard's curvy fits, Commerce Director Lauren Matthews-Ide noted, "They've got just the right amount of stretch to move with you, yet they hold their shape pretty well after multiple wears."

What reviewers say:With 4.5 stars from 129 reviews, shoppers love the comfort. "I wasn't sure if I'd like a new style since I'm usually a skinny jeans girl, but these are sooo good. Comfortable and the fabric is so soft. Will be getting more pairs," wrote one reviewer.

Keep in mind:"They do run large, so I recommend sizing down one from your usual fit," said Matthews-Ide.

Pros
  • Elastic back waist without frumpy look
  • Shaping darts provide streamlined fit
  • Testers say they hold shape well
Cons
  • May run large

How we chose the best curvy jeans of 2026

To find the best curvy jeans, we focused on the many challenges curvy women face: waist gapping, restriction in the hip and thighs and fabrics that quickly lose their shape. As someone who experiences many of these issues when it comes to finding comfortable jeans that fit, I can tell you firsthand what actually works versus what just claims to.

When creating this list, I considered my own experiences along with insights from other editors, examined Reddit conversations where curvy shoppers share recommendations and analyzed hundreds of customer reviews across retailers.

We evaluated 20+ pairs of curvy jeans from major brands, testing them for fit consistency, fabric quality and wearability. I prioritized the options specifically designed for curves rather than standard styles that are offered in extended sizes. Each option here earned its place based on solving specific fit issues and using quality fabrics that provide comfort for different body types.

Factors to consider when choosing curvy jeans

When shopping for the best curvy jeans, keep these key factors in mind:

Fit

The most important aspect of curvy jeans is how they accommodate your body's proportions. If you find that the waist gaps, the thighs feel too tight, the fabric stretches out after an hour of wear or you have to constantly pull them up, you'll want to find another size or option.

Waist-to-hip ratio

Look for jeans specifically for curvy women. Curvy jeans are designed to accommodate a difference between your waist and hips. Traditionally sized jeans don't account for this, which can cause gapping at the waist. Some may "avoid 'curvy' styles because they assume they're only for plus-size shoppers, when in reality they're an amazing option for women who aren't plus-size but have bigger, more athletic thighs," said Myrick.

Rise

"Choosing high-rise, mid-rise or low-rise so that the waistband hits exactly at the narrowest part of the waist also helps it to stay in the right spot throughout the day," said Lewin.

  • High-risestyles often work better for curvy bodies because they provide better coverage and prevent gapping.

  • Mid-risejeans are also great but may sometimes require a belt to stay in place.

  • Low-risestyles can be tricky for curvy bodies as they may create muffin top or inadequate coverage when sitting, though the right placement at your natural waist can make them work.

Material

"The fabric is so important when designing women's jeans and bottoms in general," said Lewin.

  • Stretch denimthat blends cotton with elastane, polyester or Lycra gives a more flexible fit. "Curvy jeans that have stretch are even better at hugging in all the right places," said Lewin. These blends ensure "the fabric has a good amount of stretch (four-way stretch is great!) and then goes back to its original shape without bagging out (a.k.a. fabric retention)," said Lewin. And the percentage definitely matters: 1-2% stretch offers light flexibility, 3-5% provides moderate stretch, while 6% or more delivers maximum stretch — think jeggings.

  • 100% cottonis great if you prefer non-stretch denim; find some with unique features like an adjustable or drawstring waist.

Inseam options

As with every pair of jeans, you'll want to shop for your height. The best curvy jean brands offer multiple inseam lengths. Short, petite, regular, long, tall and even extra short and extra tall options are available at select retailers. "While every brand has slightly different measurements and your best bet is to measure your inseam," said Teich, "these guidelines generally work:"

  • Short/petite:23–25"

  • Regular:26–28"

  • Tall:29–32"

Pocket placement

Pocket design matters more than you might think for curvy fits. "Front pockets tend to stick out at the hips, especially on a curvier figure," said Lewin. "Making the front pocket opening a bit shallower helps it sit higher above the hips where it can lay flatter. The size, placement and angle of back pockets are also designed to help lift and flatter."

Style

Last but not least is style. Like traditionally cut jeans, curvy jeans come in various silhouettes. Straight-leg, wide-leg styles and barrel styles are currently trending and often more flattering for curvy bodies because they balance proportions. Bootcut curvy jeans are also a classic choice. In the end, you'll want to consider your body and fit goals: skinny jeans emphasize curves, straight-leg jeans create a more streamlined look, while wide-leg or baggy jeans offer a relaxed vibe.

Curvy jeans FAQs

What are curvy jeans?

Curvy jeans are designed to accommodate the difference between your waist and hip measurements. This means they have more room through the hips, thighs and seat with a proportionally smaller waist than traditional jeans to improve overall fit and reduce gapping. Curvy jeans work best for hourglass and pear-shaped body types where there's a significant difference in waist-to-hip ratio.

How do I measure myself for curvy jeans?

To find your best fit, measure your natural waist, hips and inseam by wrapping a soft measuring tape all the way around your body, wearing form-fitting clothing or underwear for accuracy:

  • Measure your natural waistat the smallest point (about an inch above your belly button). "The measuring tape should be snug but not digging in. Make sure you can take a deep breath comfortably within the measurement," advised Teich.

  • Measure your hips at the fullest part(usually 7-9 inches below your waist). "Make sure the tape runs across the widest part of your tush and that it's sitting level all the way around," said Teich

  • Measure your inseamby "running a tape measure from the crotch seam along the leg and straight down to the ankle," said Teich. "If you're planning on wearing heels, measure for the desired length of pants."

How do I know if I need curvy jeans?

Calculate your waist-to-hip ratio by dividing your waist measurement by your hip measurement (e.g.: If your waist is 30 inches and your hips are 40 inches, divide 30 by 40 to get a ratio of 0.75.) A ratio of 0.75 or lower — or a 10+ inch difference between measurements — indicates that curvy fit jeans will work well

Don't want to measure? Some key indicators you should try curvy jeans are:

  • You find yourself sizing up to fit your hips and thighs but end up with gapping in the waist.

  • You notice excess fabric bunching at the waist or your jeans sliding down throughout the day.

  • You're choosing between jeans that fit your waist but are tight on your thighs or jeans that fit your hips but require a belt.

What's the difference between curvy and plus-size jeans?

Curvy fit jeans solve issues with proportion between waist and hips, not overall size. You can find curvy jeans in all silhouettes and sizes. In contrast, plus-size jeans offer larger overall measurements. Many brands offer both plus-size and curvy options together for inclusivity.

Do curvy jeans make you look curvier?

No, curvy jeans don't add curves. They're designed to fit the curves you already have without gapping or discomfort. Finding the proper fit actually creates a more streamlined silhouette instead of jeans that look big at the waist or tight in the hips.

What rise is best for curvy bodies?

While curvy jeans come in all rises, high-rise jeans typically work best for this body type since they provide better coverage and prevent waist gapping. The higher rise allows the waistband to sit at your natural waist rather than around your hips. Mid-rise can also be a good fit for curvy shapes but may require a belt to stay in place.
