Finding a bra that's both supportive and flattering shouldn't feel impossible — yet for many women, it does. The truth is, not all retailers carry bras in actual size ranges. Some stop at a DD, leaving plenty of women without options that actually fit.

"We often settle for something that doesn't quite fit," says bra expert Kimmay Caldwell , who has over a decade of experience in bra fitting. The biggest culprits? Bands that are too loose and cups that are too small. "Women are mistaking loose for comfortable," she explains. Many also think anything larger than a C cup is too big — and size down instead, which rarely helps.

When you know what to look for, you can find a bra that's supportive, comfortable, and flattering. We consulted bra experts and fitters to bring you the best support bras across categories — from wireless and bralettes to full-coverage styles and options for larger busts. Whatever your shape or preference, there's a bra here that actually works.

Bare Necessities

Size range:30C-46K | Materials:55% polyamide, 30% polyester, 10% cotton, 5% elastane | Colors:5 options | Style:Underwire | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone with fuller breasts who wants the kind of all-day support that keeps everything lifted and secure from the time the alarm goes off to bedtime.

Why we love it:The three-part cup has an extra, strategic seam that offers serious structure without feeling bulky, and the elastic at the top of the cup molds to your shape to keep any gaping at bay. The underwire is also triple-wrapped, so you won’t get poked all day.

What experts say:Dale calls the Deauville a “workhorse bra” for a reason —it’s thoughtfully built not only for all-day support, but also for durability, she says. According to her, the three-part cup design is really the key for those with larger busts who want lift and stability and comfort at the same time.

Keep in mind:If you’re used to budget bras, the price might make you pause, but reviewers consistently mention the bra is “worth it.

Pros
  • Elastic-lined cups to prevent gaping
  • Reinforced cups
  • Triple-wrapped underwire
Cons
  • Pricey
  • Hand wash only

ThirdLove

Size range:32B–44H | Materials:76% nylon, 24% spandex | Padding:No | Colors:5 options | Style:T-shirt | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone who wants an everyday bra that feels comfortable from the moment you put it on and won’t show under T-shirts.

Why we love it:The 24/7 Perfect Coverage Bra is one of those rare put-it-on-and-forget-it bras that still offers support. "As a DDD(F) girly, I need good support to get me through the day but with none of the digging or pinching," said one reviewer . "This bra checks all those boxes and comes in fun colors! I get enough coverage without feeling like I have an old lady bra on, but enough to do the job."

What experts say:The memory-foam cups mold to your shape for smooth coverage and a subtle lift, while the wide, cushioned straps and double-layer back keep everything supported and streamlined under clothes.

Keep in mind:Though most reviewers say the bra runs true to size, there are some that note it runs a bit snug. We recommend using the brand's bra fit calculator to find the best fit for you.

Pros
  • Super soft memory foam construction
  • Wide-cushioned straps
  • Seamless under clothes
Cons
  • Some reviewers say it fits snug

Amazon

Size range:36C-42DDD | Materials:62% nylon, 38% spandex | Padding:No | Colors:8 options | Style:Minimizer | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone who wants to downplay the size of their bust.

Why we love it: Minimizers can sometimes make breasts look boxy or over-flattened, but this one keeps the silhouette round and natural while still helping clothing drape cleanly. The seamless lace cups with soft mesh lining create a smooth shape under clothes, while the breathable, stretchy back helps prevent bulging.

What experts say:Fit pros love this bra because it strikes the sweet spot between support, shaping and comfort. Caldwell says it feels like “second skin” and calls it her go-to for minimizing size without sacrificing comfort or lift.

Keep in mind:Since there's no padding, you may get some nipple show, and the lace and mesh construction requires hand-washing for longevity.

Pros
  • Helps clothes drape more naturally
  • Breathable material
  • Pretty lace design in a variety of colors
Cons
  • Handwash only
  • May not always offer nipple coverage

True & Co

Size range:XS-2X | Materials:77% Nylon, 23% elastane | Padding:No | Colors:2 options | Style:Pull-over | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone who wants lift and shaping without underwire.

Why we love it:Though ridiculously soft — think yoga pants level soft — the brand promises up to an inch of lift. The wire-free style is a cinch to get on over the head, and we also appreciate the removable pads for customizable coverage.

What experts say:There’s a myth that you can’t get lift without an underwire, and this bra debunks it, said Dale. It combines a buttery smooth fabric on the cups with a seamless knit band that hugs the body.

Keep in mind:Because it’s wireless and super soft, it may not provide enough structure for higher-impact activities.

Pros
  • Super soft and breathable
  • Easy pull-over style
  • Removable pads
Cons
  • May not be supportive enough for high-impact activities

Bare Necessities

Size range:30A-40H | Materials:84% polyamide, 16% elastane | Padding:No | Colors:7 options | Style:Push-up | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone who wants real lift without excess padding.

Why we love it:This bra delivers the kind of lift that boosts your confidence — without the padding that can leave you feeling bogged down. The mesh-lined cups use vertical and darted seams to naturally boost and shape the bust, while the underwire adds structure without digging. The straps adjust multiple ways, too, so you can fine-tune the fit.

What experts say:“This bra lifts and separates really well, and I like how thick the lacey material is,” said bra fit expert Kristyn Polin. “It gives extra coverage but it is still comfy and supportive at the same time,”

Keep in mind:Because there’s no padding, the shape is natural, not dramatically sculpted like a traditional push-up.

Pros
  • Offers lift without uncomfortable padding
  • Convertible design
  • Wide range of sizes
Cons
  • Hand wash

Freya

Size range:28DD-38HH | Materials:81% polyester, 16% nylon, 3% spandex | Padding:No | Colors:5 options | Style:T-Shirt | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone with a larger bust who has previously struggled with shoulder pain.

Why we love it:This T-shirt bra uses seam-free molded cups to create a smooth, rounded silhouette without adding bulk to already large chests, and the balcony shape provides full coverage without feeling matronly. It’s comfy, too. Many reviewers report buying multiples: “This bra is comfortable, and I have worn it for years and keep buying more,” said one reviewer .

What experts say:Molded cups and a supportive underwire band work together to smooth the bust and shift weight onto the band instead of the shoulders, offering lift and comfort for fuller busts.

Keep in mind:Since the cups are molded and structured, this is more of a firm, supportive fit rather than a soft, flexible one.

Pros
  • Seam-free and smooth under T-shirts
  • Full-coverage, but not matronly
Cons
  • May feel overly structured to some

Chantelle

Size range:32D-44F | Materials:76% polyamide, 24% spandex | Padding:No | Colors:7 options | Style:Minimizer | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone who wants to minimize back and underarm bulge while still getting lift and support.

Why we love it:The soft, unlined cups give full coverage without padding, keeping the shape natural while cutting down on cleavage and underboob. “The Chantelle C Magnifique minimizer bra is by far the best bra of this type I have ever owned,” said one reviewer . “It is constructed with comfort and endurance in mind and makes my 40D chest look more ‘normal,’ instead of looking like I stuffed an already overstuffed bra like I usually do with regular bras — I definitely look like I've reduced my cup size by at least 1 1/2.”

What experts say:This bra has soft, wide straps that help smooth things out, says Caldwell. It also has a four-column, two-row hook back for extra support during everyday wear.

Keep in mind:Since it’s unlined, the cups provide light shaping and support but don’t add padding or substantial nipple coverage.

Pros
  • Soft, wide straps
  • Wide band for smoothing and support
Cons
  • May not offer enough nipple coverage

Spanx

Size range:32A-40DDD | Materials:72% nylon, 28% elastane | Padding:No | Colors:5 options | Style:T-Shirt | Coverage:Moderate

Best for:Anyone who wants a smooth, supportive bra that’s both comfortable and stylish.

Why we love it:Fashion editors, shoppers and celebrities alike love this bra. According to the brand, Jennifer Garner once told them, “You guys have no idea how many friends I’ve turned on to the Bra-llelujah!” It’s easy to see why the bra is so popular, the back and side panels are made with hosiery material that stretches and moves with you, leaving a completely smooth base for your clothes. It has a front closure and v-neck shape while the underwire and molded cups provide ample support and lift.

What experts say:Shopping editor Lisa Schweitzer is a fan of the stylish and supportive garment. “I wore this bra while pregnant because it was so comfortable and didn't feel restrictive, while also providing support,” she said.

Keep in mind:The front-closure style may feel different if you’re used to back-hook bras.

Pros
  • Soft and smooth fabric
  • Easy front closure
  • Attractive silhouette
Cons
  • Not as many sizes as some options

Fantasie

Size range:30DD-42HH | Materials:77% nylon, 13% elastane, 10% polyester | Padding:No | Colors:4 options | Style:Underwire | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone looking for extra side support and a natural, lifted shape.

Why we love it:This bra combines support and style effortlessly. The stretch lace cups adapt to busts of all shapes and sizes, giving a comfortable, flattering fit, while the wide side panels help smooth out any extra skin without digging in.

What experts say:“It gives a natural shape and keeps the girls front-and-center, where you want them to be,” said Polin. “The material is so soft and the stretch lace on the cups provides an easy fit for busts of all shapes and sizes. The sides are wide enough to smooth out any extra skin you may have, without digging into your armpit area.”

Keep in mind:While supportive, the lace cups are soft and lightly structured, so it won’t feel like a heavily molded bra.

Pros
  • Smoothing wide side panels
  • Soft and supportive material
Cons
  • May not offer enough shaping for some

HerRoom

Size range:32B-46H | Materials:47% nylon, 39% polyester, 14% spandex | Padding:No | Colors:5 options | Style:Sports bra | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone with a larger bust who needs serious support during high-impact workouts.

Why we love it:Designed for high-impact workouts, this bra has large, seamless cups to prevent chafing and a padded underwire for lift and comfort. Breathable mesh panels along the neckline, straps, sides, and back help keep you cool, and it comes in five colors so you can coordinate with your workout gear

What experts say:"This is a serious bra for serious bosoms," said former Yahoo Shopping Editor Anna Wahrman. "If your breasts are ample, as mine are, you'll appreciate the four-prong back, the wide and soft adjustable shoulder straps and the breathable side panels. I understand women who hate underwires — I do too — but I've found that we bigger gals need the support that comes with a more structured fit."

Keep in mind:The underwire is padded for comfort, but some may find it more structured than a typical sports bra.

Pros
  • Breathable
  • Thick adjustable straps
  • Suitable for high-impact activities
Cons
  • More restrictive than your average sports bra

ThirdLove

Size range:32A-44H | Materials: 76% nylon, 24% spandex| Padding:No | Colors:12 options | Style:T-Shirt | Coverage:Moderate

Best for:Anyone with smaller busts or anyone who struggles to find a precise fit.

Why we love it:This T-shirt bra is a fan favorite for a reason. Over 60,000 shoppers love that it comes in more than 60 size combinations — including half sizes — so it’s easier to find a bra that truly fits. Ultra-thin memory foam cups add gentle shape, while the underwire provides lift and support without ever digging in.

What experts say:Out of all the bras I’ve tried this year, this is one of the more comfortable traditional T-shirt styles I’ve ever worn. It has an attractive silhouette that comes with a little lift, thanks to gentle underwire. As a 32D, I don’t need a ton of support, but I found this keeps me feeling comfortable and confident throughout long days of errands and household chores.

Keep in mind:Memory foam cups offer shape but not added padding for volume.

Pros
  • Wide range of sizes and colors
  • Sleek silhouette
  • Machine-washable
Cons
  • Doesn't add volume to small busts

Soma

Size range:34A-44G | Materials:80% polyamide, 20% elastane | Padding:Yes | Colors:2 options | Style:Strapless | Coverage:Full

Best for:Anyone with larger busts who want a strapless bra that actually stays in place.

Why we love it:This strapless bra balances comfort and hold like few others. The full-coverage design features exposed elastic along the cups to keep everything in place, while the extra-wide band and wings smooth out the back and sides. Cushioned underwire adds lift and support without digging.

What experts say:Strapless bras rely on band width, cup construction, and firm elastic to stay supportive. A wider band and reinforced wings distribute weight evenly and prevent slipping, which is especially important for larger busts. This one, which checks all of the boxes, is “a must-have bra for large busts and plus-size women,” said Dora Lau, founder of Dora L International, a global design, development and sourcing company. “It’s designed to provide a firmer hold and offers great support.”

Pros
  • Elastic-lined cups for hold
  • Wide, supportive band
Cons
  • Hand-wash only

How we tested

Not all bras that claim to be supportive actually deliver, so we talked to bra experts and the people who rely on real support every day to find out what truly works. I've personally tried dozens of bras over the past year — both wired and wireless styles — and several on this list are among them. Because support is highly individual, we also asked our internal team of editors and contributors to share their own tried-and-true favorites, giving us insight into what works across a range of shapes and sizes.

To make sure we got all the details right, we leaned heavily on the expertise of bra fit specialists and designers, focusing on factors like overall fit, strap comfort, band stability and how each bra holds its shape over time. Their guidance, combined with real-world testing and feedback from people who wear highly supportive bras daily, helped us identify which styles consistently deliver comfort, lift and lasting support.

What to consider when shopping for a supportive bra

A supportive bra should feel comfortable from the moment you put it on and keep your bust lifted and secure all day. Here's what to keep in mind before you add one to your cart:

Size range:The right fit is everything for support. Look for brands with inclusive sizing — more band and cup options mean a better, more precise fit, which translates to better lift and comfort.

Materials:Fabrics play a big role in both comfort and structure. Firmer, low-stretch fabrics and reinforced panels provide shape and support, while softer, stretchier fabrics feel cozy but may offer less hold over time.

Straps and band:The band does most of the heavy lifting, so it should be snug and sturdy. Wide, adjustable straps help distribute weight evenly and prevent shoulder digging.

Cup construction:Look for cups that fit your shape well. Molded, three-part or reinforced cups can lift and separate, while lightly lined or unlined cups offer a more natural shape. Features like side panels, underwire or vertical seams can enhance support without sacrificing comfort.

Padding and shaping:Decide how much lift or definition you want. Light padding can add subtle lift and shape, while unlined cups offer natural contour. Removable pads add flexibility for a customizable look.

Care:Supportive bras last longer with proper care. Check the label — many require hand-washing and air- or line-drying to help maintain elasticity, prevent stretched bands and extend the life of the bra.

Best support bra FAQs

How do you measure your bra size?

To measure your bra size at home, you need a flexible tape measure to take your rib and bust measurements, said Noemi Diaz-Justino, senior design director of lingerie brand True & Co .

  1. Measure your rib cage:Hold the tape measure parallel to the floor and wrap it snugly (but not tightly) around your rib cage. That number is your band size. If it's an odd number, you'll need to round up or down; whichever is closer.

  2. Measure your bust:Keeping the tape measure parallel to the floor, wrap it loosely around the fullest part of your bust.

  3. Calculate your cup size:Subtract your rib measurement from your bust measurement. The difference determines your cup size:

  • 1 inch = A cup

  • 2 inches = B cup

  • 3 inches = C cup

  • 4 inches = D cup

  • 5 inches = DD

  • 6 inches = DDD

  • And so on...

How should a bra fit for the necessary support and comfort?

According to Polin, there are five tips to remember when finding a proper fit that is both comfortable and supportive, starting with your band size.:

  1. Your band should be straight and level, not riding up.

  2. Your straps should stay in placewithout digging in or slipping.

  3. Your breasts should fill the cups without any spillage or gapping.

  4. The underwire needs to surround each breastwithout pinching anywhere.

  5. The center gore between your cups should lay flatand not lift off the chest.

What details make a bra more supportive than others?

A bra's support comes down to construction and fit. "I have found that having straps that are fully adjustable, as well as a band that is thick enough to withstand the weight of the chest, will provide the most support," said Rachel Pietri, customer service manager for Natori . "Also, the wider and thicker the band is, the more even the weight distribution will be, which will contribute to both support as well as comfort." Cup construction also plays a major role in support. "The fabric should be soft but not too stretchy," said Dawn Kenney, National Fit Consultant Director at Wacoal , noting underwire also helps with support.
