Suits that slim, sculpt, shape and suck: We've tested dozens to find the very best.

If it's been a few years since you tried on a tummy-control suit, here's some good news: You'll no longer pull a neck or back muscle trying to wedge yourself into one. The best tummy-control swimsuits today sculpt and shape your midsection without making you feel like the meat in a sausage casing. And while we truly believe that all swimsuits are for all people and body types, if you're more confident when you feel secure and held in, a compression option might be right up your, err, swim lane.

As counterintuitive as it may sound, some of the best tummy-control swimsuits can actually be quite comfortable. The options range from lightly squeezing, subtly ruched fabrics to more compressive power mesh panels built into the best one-pieces , tankini swimsuits or bikini bottoms, so you can choose the level of tummy control that you feel best in.

We gathered hands-on feedback from real testers aged 25 to 50+, sizes 0 to 18. Our testers swam, splashed, showered and washed their suits, putting them through the wringer to make sure that we were only recommending the top tier of the best tummy-control swimsuits. These picks actually performed well in the midsection-flattening realm and fit comfortably in real life. (And if you want to take your new suit expedition even further, be sure to check out the best swimsuits on Amazon and picks for women over 50 ).

The best tummy-control swimsuits of 2026

Sizes: XXS-4X, with short, regular/long and extra-long torso options and B/C-J/K cup options | Material: 75% nylon, 25% spandex | Colors: 7 | Neckline: Sweetheart | Padding: None, just underwire | Bottom coverage: Full

Why we love it: TA3 swimsuits are known for their dialed-in, adjustable fit. You slip into the suit, then pull on the stretchy, corseted back until the midsection fits comfortably. "Honestly, this is probably the best shaping bathing suit I've ever tried on," raved one tester. The thick, adjustable straps and underwire are designed to feel supportive, while the color-blocking on the sides of the suit creates a subtly sexy, hourglass look.

What our testers say: The TA3 Lifty suit received perfect 5/5 scores for appearance, look, fit, comfort, adjustability and security. It ranked highest among all the swimsuits we tested. "I'm almost 52, for me to say this swimsuit makes me feel confident enough to be seen out in the wild, that's a big deal," said one tester. "Pricey, but worth it! It's immediately obvious that the fabric is thicker than most. It sucks you in due to the awesome built-in shapewear. I love the optical illusion that makes me look like an hourglass. It's comfortable despite the compression — it was a bit tough to pull on, but once on, I appreciated how much it sucked me in!"

Keep in mind:There are several size customization options (see specs above) and while this suit starts at B/C cup sizing, the brand notes that it's best suited for C-K cups. I tried this suit in an A/B cup and found it a little too big in the chest. There's also no built-in or removable padding if you prefer to have that option.

Pros
  • Color blocking creates a slimming effect
  • Adjustable waist ties to customize fit
  • Lifting underwire
  • Thick, adjustable straps
  • Huge range of sizing options and customizations
Cons
  • Not designed for smaller than a B/C cup

Sizes: XXS-26 plus | Material: 82% nylon, 18% spandex | Colors: 19 | Neckline: High | Padding: Yes | Bottom coverage: Full

Why we love it: While many tummy-control swimsuits come with a premium price tag, this one doesn't. The cute one-piece is under $40 and has visually slimming elements like a ruched midsection and a high waistband that elongates the torso. It's a great, affordable option for those who want to conceal and camouflage the midsection without spending a ton.

What our testers say: "This suit is like the sisterhood of the traveling pants: It looks great on everyone," says Senior Style Editor Jessica Teich . "The ruching along the midsection is flattering, but it doesn't feel too tight or restrictive. The high neck gives coverage, but the plunge/mesh detailing and keyhole back are still sexy. I love that it comes in sizes XXS to 26 plus and is so affordable."

Keep in mind: One tester noted that the backside is extremely full coverage. While she didn't find it to be very flattering, this is a good option for anyone who wants to keep their bottom fully covered.

Pros
  • Midsection ruching
  • Higher waistband elongates the torso
  • Secure, high neckline with mesh panel for visual interest
  • Budget friendly
  • Available in a wide range of sizes
Cons
  • Full bum coverage is not for everyone

Sizes: 6-16 | Material: 69% nylon, 31% spandex | Colors: 2 | Neckline: High | Padding: Yes | Bottom coverage: Full

Why we love it: "Look 10 pounds lighter in 10 seconds" is the Miraclesuit motto. We can't confirm that claim, but it certainly has the smoothing power to whittle your silhouette in an impressive way. There's strong but not restrictive compression throughout the suit to give you a sleek, smooth look, and the geometric high-neck provides great bust support. Plus, the scoop back plus full backside coverage feels balanced and flattering.

What our pros say: Stylist Rebecca Kahane Pankow notes Miraclesuit is a brand that she often recommends. "Its signature Miratex fabric offers all-over smoothing and support without feeling overly restrictive." She also likes the wide variety of silhouettes it offers, "from classic one-pieces to more fashion-forward cuts — so you don't have to sacrifice style for support. Its ruched and draped styles are especially flattering on a range of body types."

Keep in mind: Miraclesuit's swimsuits start at size 6, but the brand recommends sizing up one size, so size 4s who want compression should be able to wear this one. We also wish this pick were available in more colors at Nordstrom, but the brand's site offers five other options .

Pros
  • Strong compression smooths without constricting
  • High neckline offers great bust support
  • Full backside coverage balanced out by scoop-back silhouette
Cons
  • Sizing starts at 6
  • Limited colors

Sizes: XS-XL | Material: 80% nylon, 20% spandex | Colors: 5 | Neckline: V-Neck | Padding: Yes, removable | Bottom coverage: Moderate

Why we love it: Tummy-control swimsuits don't need to be excessively restrictive or uncomfortable! This Cupshe one-piece received a glowing 4.78 out of 5 for its lighter compression. The midsection of the swimsuit is made of power mesh that wraps around the torso for a cinching effect. It also features side ruching that's super flattering.

What our testers say: "I love almost everything about this suit — it's easily one of the best swimsuits I've worn," said one of our testers. "It fit like a glove, with just the right amount of compression: smoothing and flattering without feeling restrictive. The adjustable straps and back made it easy to dial in the fit, and the color and pattern sealed the deal."

Keep in mind: Noted the same tester: "I have very few complaints, but I wouldn't mind a bit more coverage in the back — I did find myself tugging it down over my butt occasionally. After washing it in the machine, the bra pads shifted a bit, though I was able to adjust them back into place pretty easily."

Pros
  • Light compression and smoothing
  • Flattering side ruching
  • Solid and printed color options
  • Adjustable straps
  • Affordable
Cons
  • May not be compressive enough for some

Sizes: XS-XL | Material: 84% polyamide, 16% elastane | Colors: 18 | Neckline: Plunging | Padding: None | Bottom coverage: Minimal

Why we love it: Tummy control doesn't have to equal high coverage. For a slightly sexier option, consider the So Chic from this Bali-based lingerie brand. The plunging neckline is a stylish way to add a little heat, but what we love most is the thoughtful, targeted compression that cinches only around the waist. This creates a whittling effect without excessive squeezing around the legs or bust.

What our testers say: "I am utterly shocked by this swimsuit: I cannot believe how flattering it looks on. When I opened it, it looked so small that I highly doubted it would fit — but it does, and exceptionally well," raved a tester. "The high-cut leg and cheeky tush coverage make my legs look 9 million miles long and don't ride up or create cameltoe. It's a magical suit that makes my waist look cinched and accentuates the rest."

Keep in mind: The plunging neckline may not be a fit for larger busts. A DDD tester said: "The deep plunge is flattering, but I wish the coverage was a little broader toward the exterior; my boobs spill out on either side. I'd say if you're over a D-cup, proceed with caution."

Pros
  • Targeted waist compression
  • Overall comfortable fit
  • Flattering high-leg cut
  • Luxe, high-quality fabric
Cons
  • May not work for larger cup sizes

Sizes: XS-3X | Material: 57% nylon, 43% elastane | Colors: 5 | Neckline: Square | Padding: Yes, removable cups | Bottom coverage: Moderate to full, with a higher leg cut

Why we love it: If you're looking for serious tummy control, this is the swimsuit for you. "Spanx is so popular and effective that it's basically used interchangeably for the type of clothing it is (shapewear), so it's no surprise that this compressive suit, made with SPANXsculpt technology, is highly compressive all over," says Teich. The suit offers moderate to full backside coverage but doesn't look matronly thanks to the higher leg cut, and the fabric has UPF 50+ protection — a nice bonus.

What our testers say: One tester wrote, "This swimsuit definitely sucks you in and holds you tightly. But despite all of that, I still found it very comfortable to spend hours in." Another added that the material "felt impressively high-quality and durable."

Keep in mind: One of the three testers who tried this pick said it ran small, noting, "I found it to be uncomfortably tight and ended up passing it along to a shorter friend. She recommended sizing up, but our other two testers found it true to size.

Pros
  • Strong compression
  • Thick, high-quality fabric
  • Flattering higher leg cut
  • UPF 50+ fabric
Cons
  • Finding your size may be tricky

Sizes: 0-24 with a long torso option | Material: 78% recycled polyamide, 22% elastane | Colors: 8 | Neckline: One-shoulder | Padding: None | Bottom coverage: Full

Why we love it: The diagonal striped design of Summersalt's oh-so-popular Sidestroke isn't just decorative — the way it wraps around really elongates and smooths out your torso. "Summersalt's color blocking is some of the best on the market," explains Teich. "The suits always graduate from light on the top to dark on the bottom, which is visually slimming (darker colors tend to slim, hence why we all love wearing black so much!)."

What our testers say: "It's comfortable, stays in place and fits true-to-size," said one tester. "It's definitely a suit I'd feel comfortable running around in, so it's great for active beach days too." Teich adds, "The diagonal paneling also draws the eye up and creates a longer line than a horizontal one would, so it makes you look longer and leaner."

Keep in mind: While some testers cited the full backside coverage as a "must," others noted it was too much.

Pros
  • Very secure and supportive
  • Color-blocking elongates and smooths
  • Long torso option
  • Comfortable, secure compression throughout
Cons
  • Some testers disliked the full backside coverage

Sizes: XXS-XXL | Material: 80% recycled nylon, 20% spandex | Colors: 3 | Neckline: N/A | Padding: N/A | Bottom coverage: Cheeky to moderate

Why we love it: Two-pieces offer tummy control too! This one has a very high waist and extra-thick waistband that smooths the lower and middle waist area. It features a higher leg cut that really elongates the legs, and the fabric is UPF 50+. Pair with any of your favorite bikini or tankini tops.

What our testers say: "These bottoms hit at the perfect height," one tester noted. "They cover the lower stomach and settle in at the natural waist with a snug fit that's not too tight and doesn't squeeze or dig in."

Keep in mind: There is a seam that runs around the waistband that one tester noted she could do without. Also, our tester found them to be more moderate coverage rather than a true cheeky cut.

Pros
  • Cheeky to moderate coverage
  • Extra-high waist with thick waistband
  • Flattering high-leg cut
  • UPF 50+ fabric
  • Affordable
Cons
  • Visible seam around the waist
  • May not be cheeky enough for some

Sizes: 0-24 with a long torso option | Material: 38% recycled polyamide/36% recycled polyester/18% elastane/8% polyamide | Colors: 5 | Neckline: Strapless | Padding: Yes, removable | Bottom coverage: Moderate

Why we love it: The J.Crew Gemma swimsuit is a favorite of our staffers and testers. The strapless fit is very secure, the fabric feels thick and luxurious (this is where most of the smoothing tummy-control effect comes from) and it even comes with removable straps, should you prefer a little extra support. We also love that this suit is chic enough to wear to a post-beach dinner when worn with a pair of linen pants or shorts.

What our testers say: One tester described it as her go-to, saying that it's "super slimming" with fabric that "really sucks you in at the waist." Another noted, "This swimsuit shocked me. It feels more luxe and high-end than some of the most expensive swimsuits I've tried at more than double and triple the price. It's modest but stunning on with a slightly sweetheart neckline and a low-cut leg that feels more pin-up style than full-coverage."

Keep in mind: "It can be a little difficult to put back on when it's wet," wrote a tester. "All swimsuits are, but this one is especially tricky since it's tight."

Pros
  • Chic, elevated retro-esque style
  • Can be worn with pants or shorts
  • Optional straps
  • Long torso option
Cons
  • Can be tricky to put on/take off

How we tested the best tummy-control swimsuits of 2026

We enlisted a diverse pool of 15 swim testers ranging from size 0 to 18 to try out one-pieces, bikinis and tankinis. Each tester was assigned items from a range of swimwear that we selected based on staffer recommendations, tried-and-true bestsellers, buzzy launches, up-and-coming brands and interesting innovations that have recently hit shelves.

We were looking for swimsuits that both looked good and felt good, so it was important that we got multiple examples of real-life, hands-on feedback for each option. Did the testers find the suits to be cute and confidence-boosting? Did the material shift, sag or get sheer when wet? Did the swimsuit shrink or lose its padding in the wash? Was the bust support adequate for more intense activities? How did the suit fit on different body types? And of course, there were budget considerations: We covered the gamut from affordable Amazon picks to luxurious $200+ swimsuits to see if each was worth the cost.

Our testers answered a total of 162 survey questions, and after we sorted through the feedback scores and dozens of positive (and a fair share of not-so-positive) comments, we spoke to a couple of swimwear designers and founders to get their expert opinions on everything from how a good tummy-control swimsuit is constructed to what to expect when trying compression swimwear for the first time.

What to consider when shopping for tummy-control swimsuits

If you've never tried a tummy-control bathing suit before, it's hard to know exactly what to look for and whether it fits correctly and feels the way it's supposed to. "The best tummy-control suit shouldn't feel like something you're fighting against," says Hayley Segar, founder of swimwear brand Onewith . "If it's digging, rolling or overly restrictive, it's not doing its job. The goal is support and ease; not compression for the sake of it." Here are some things to keep in mind.

  • Compression level: Whether you prefer a lightly compressive, stretchy fabric or a true corseted waist that really sculpts, there is a range of compression levels available. Some are simply designed a little tighter at the waist to smooth out the midsection, while others are truly meant to compress and "control" with a very strong hold. The choice comes down to personal preference and what feels most comfortable for you.

  • Structure and design: Not all tummy-control swimsuits are equal. You'll want to look for an option that is designed thoughtfully and makes you feel held-in but not squeezed, and that's typically done through one of several strategic design choices:

    • Power meshis a strong, stretchy material that sculpts the waist. You'll often find panels of power mesh built into the stomach area or all around the waist as part of the swimsuit lining. It can be as strong and effective as it sounds, but some people might find it too restrictive.

    • Ruching: Whether it's strategic ruching on the sides of the torso or ruching all over, this type of gathered or pleated fabric doesn't actually shape the midsection, but it does help to visually camouflage it. This is a great option for someone who feels more comfortable with stomach coverage but doesn't want a super-tight swimsuit.

    • Color-blocking: To achieve a shaping effect without any extra tightness, look for a swimsuit that's designed to create an optical illusion like the hourglass color-blocking on the TA3 Lifty swimsuit or the elongating, visually-slimming diagonal stripes of the Summersalt Sidestroke suit . Carefully placed patterns and colors can make a huge difference.

  • Adjustability: Tummy-control swimsuits are most effective when they fit your body well. You can, of course, look for a swimsuit that works for your body type, as is, but an easier option is to purchase an adjustable style that can be customized to fit as tightly or loosely as you'd like in different areas and on different days when you're feeling more or less bloated than others.

    • Straps: Adjustable straps ensure that your suit fits securely (because nobody likes straps that are constantly slipping off of your shoulders or uncomfortably digging in). They also provide significant chest support when fitted properly.

    • Midsection: Some suits, like our top-rated TA3 Lifty swimsuit , have an adjustable waist that can be tightened or loosened to your liking. This typically also makes it easier to put on and remove the swimsuit.

    • Torso: Swimsuits that offer shorter and longer torso-length options ensure there is plenty of room for the suit to fit your body in the most comfortable way possible

    • Cups:Whenever possible, look for a swimsuit that is sold in bra sizing rather than standard letter sizing. This ensures your suit is designed to accommodate you in the chest and provide the correct amount of support rather than flattening, squeezing or gaping.

  • Activity level: Consider how active you'll be while wearing your compression bathing suit. Do you need the flexibility of movement to pick up small children or play water sports, or are you looking for an option to lounge in? While some of our highest-compression options offer a real and noticeable slimming effect, the trade-off is that they aren't the most flexible. On the other hand, something that's made for activities like playing sports or running around may not offer much midsection compression because it's designed to move with you.

Tummy-control swimsuit FAQs

How do tummy-control swimsuits work?

"A tummy-control swimsuit uses fabrications that gently smooth out your midsection to give you a smoother silhouette without squeezing or restricting movement," says Brenda West, president of Manhattan Beachwear . They're designed for "anyone who wants a little extra smoothing in the midsection, whether you're postpartum, have a softer tummy from life changes, have lost weight or simply prefer a more streamlined look." Athena Louca, director of technical design at QVC says, adding: "Elements like power mesh lining, ruching and strategic seaming create gentle shaping and smoothing. Some styles will incorporate higher compression or double-layered fabrics to create extra support while still allowing for movement and comfort."

Are tummy-control swimsuits uncomfortable?

They can be, especially if you get the wrong size or try on something that's far more compressive than what you're used to, but they shouldn't have to be. "Comfort is just as important as function," says Louca. "The best tummy-control swimsuits are designed to feel supportive, not restrictive, offering stretch and flexibility. If it feels too tight, rigid or constrictive, it is likely not the right fit for you."

Can you wear tummy-control swimsuits postpartum?

"Absolutely," says Segar. "We typically get emails/DMs from women who are seeking a tummy-control suit who cite they are freshly postpartum or have given birth recently. Many plainly state they are seeking out this type to feel better in a swimsuit after having a baby." Louca adds that it's an option many people find appealing to wear during a time when your body is still changing, but she notes that it's "important to pick a comfortable suit and avoid anything that's overly or uncomfortably compressive."
