The biggest appeal of Flint and Tinder's new Dry Wax Field Jacket is where it sits in the overall outerwear market today.
Specifically, it fills a gap in the market that's been poorly addressed for years: between the classic British hunting aesthetic of a Barbour and the more wearable, everyday-friendly dry-wax canvas that Filson has made iconic.
Classic looks, cleaner feel

The field jacket has deep roots in British country and hunting tradition. It's a potent combination of style and heritage that Barbour built its reputation on.
And it's also very functional. Barbour's more traditional waxed canvas treatment ages with use and carries real weather resistance that can be restored again and again with proper re-waxing
.
But this particular version of waxed canvas is also heavy, stiff out of the box and can feel sticky and oily to the touch.

Filson took a different path with its outerwear, popularizing a dry-wax canvas that feels lighter in hand, transfers less color to layers underneath (according to the brand) and is designed to integrate more naturally into everyday wear without the maintenance overhead.

The newest member of Flint and Tinder's expanding waxed canvas lineup
draws from both traditions. It wears the classic hunting field coat silhouette — longer hem, generous pocket layout, a collar that closes against the wind — that puts it squarely in Barbour's lineage.
But the cloth is British Millerain
Ranger 6 TekWax dry-wax canvas, from the same manufacturer that makes Filson's famed Tin Cloth
.
Availability and pricing

The Dry Wax Field Jacket is available now through Huckberry in three different colors of British Khaki, Olive and Reddish-Brown.
At $328, this coat costs significantly less than similarly styled Barbour icons like the classic Bedale, which retails for $425. The head-to-head price comparison to Filson is also favorable, though not as dramatic. Filson's Dry Wax Mile Market Coat retails for $399.
