Meghan Markle Swears By This Sky Blue Button-Up Shirt—and Now I Understand Why

No one appreciates a button-up shirt more than Meghan Markle . She's seen wearing them often, and one could even argue the style is the hardest-working in her wardrobe—so obviously the Duchess has strong opinions on the best brands to shop.

Last fall, when I was looking to add a new button-up to my collection (one can never have too many!), I naturally decided to turn to Meghan for inspiration. She previously influenced me to get her favorite linen shirt , Bleu Salt T-shirt , and Brochu Walker cashmere sweater , so I figured she'd know her way around a great button-up. And so, after some research, I landed on the With Nothing Underneath Boyfriend Shirt —a style she's worn several times over the years, and now even Kate Middleton loves .

As I've learned, finding the perfect balance between a fitted and relaxed shirt is no easy feat because many either lean too snug or too loose. Oftentimes, you have to buy a size up or down in order to get your preferred fit—but WNU's Boyfriend Shirt is true to size. The shoulders are slightly dropped, and it has a longer length, giving the shirt a relaxed, oversized feel—without making me look like I'm swimming in it. It's a true borrowed-from-your-boyfriend oxford, thoughtfully made for women.

The collar is another a key detail that shouldn't be overlooked. I find that a lot of women's button-ups tend to look flimsy, or start out as structured and then lose their shape. However, the collar on the WNU shirt is rigid and has a naturally starched look, which gives the piece a polished look.

And then there's the material. The Boyfriend is available in many fabrics, like linen and Tencel lyocell, but I went the classic route with 100 percent poplin. It's crisp, lightweight, and feels phenomenal on the body—you can't go wrong.

I opted for it in sky blue, because if there's anything I've learned from covering Meghan's style over the years, it's that you don't underestimate the power of a light blue button-up. It's just as timeless as a white one, but I'd say blue is even more versatile and flattering. You can wear it formally, dress it casually, mix and match it with different textures and colors—the outfit combinations are endless.

It's also remarkably suitable for all seasons. Over fall and winter, I wore it tucked into jeans, layered under a knit or over a turtleneck; and then in spring and summer, I was pairing the shirt with silk bias pants, linen trousers, and long shorts.

The lesson here, once again, is: If Meghan wears something on repeat, there's a reason, so you listen and take note.
