Stella McCartney Just Gave Bugaboo Strollers a Luxe Makeover (Falabella Chain Included) — Here’s When It Drops

At this point, I've pushed enough strollers through enough crosswalks to come to the following conclusion: a stroller is a piece of furniture you wear in public. It goes everywhere you go. It sits in the background of every photo for roughly three years. So for folks who want that piece of furniture to be attractive, you'll understand viscerally why the Bugaboo x Stella McCartney Collection exists.

Bugaboo announced the collaboration this morning: a limited-edition capsule that puts Stella McCartney's design language onto three of the brand's most recognizable frames, plus a small run of accessories. It arrives globally on September 15at Bugaboo.com and select retailers, with pricing that starts around $160 for accessories and climbs to roughly $2,500 for the flagship stroller.

What's In the Bugaboo x Stella McCartney Collection?

The chic collection brings Bugaboo engineering to Stella McCartney aesthetic, all in a Tobacco Brown colorway with Saddle Brown accents in vegan leather alternatives. The collection comprises the Bugaboo Fox 5 Renew, the full-size, go-anywhere option and the priciest piece in the drop; the Dragonfly Plus, the city stroller built to fold down small without giving up the plush ride; and finally, the Butterfly 2, the ultra-compact travel stroller (and my personal favorite).

Of course, no Bugaboo (or Stella McCartney) release would be complete without accessories, and those are available in droves too. They include a footmuff, a tote, and mittens for both adults and toddlers, done in the Stella monogram as a matching set. The mittens are new to the Bugaboo lineup, and I would like to register that a matching adult-and-toddler mitten set is a shamelessly effective piece of merchandising that worked on me immediately.

The design details are pulled from the Falabella, the chain-trimmed bag named for Stella's childhood pony that became shorthand for cruelty-free luxury. The diamond-cut chain, which references a horse bit, is woven into the canopy. There are vintage gold medallions and the Stella McCartney logo. The harder hardware against softer finishes gives that trademark Falabella trick to a piece of baby gear.

 The Sustainability Is Real

For parents who are interested in leaving the world a better place than they found if for their children, this is a meaningful drop. Both brands have receipts detailing their emphasis on sustainability: Bugaboo became a B Corp in 2023 and has committed to net zero by 2035 through its Push to Zero program, and Stella McCartney has never used leather, fur, feathers, or skins.

As such, the fabrics are recycled polyester made from plastic bottles, colored with water-free dye technology. The hardware blends bio-based materials with recycled aluminum. And the strollers underneath are the same ones Bugaboo already sells, which matters more than the material sourcing does. These are frames engineered to survive multiple kids and then get handed down. Longevity is the sustainability feature, and everything else is a bonus.

 Should You Buy It?

Here's where I land. Nobody needs a designer stroller. But if you were already going to spend real money on a Bugaboo, and most of us who have compared the specs long enough end up circling one, then the question isn't whether to spend; it's which colorway you want to look at every single day for the next several years. Tobacco Brown with gold hardware is a considerably better answer than most of the options out there.

The mittens, meanwhile, land at the bottom of the range and will sell out. Set a reminder for the 15th as the Bugaboo x Stella McCartney collection will drop on Bugaboo's online store.
