Don't be a heel! Treat your feet to some sweet relief in the form of these polished flats.

After years of running around in heels and dealing with not just short-term blisters and pain but long-term foot issues, I've finally realized that no matter how fun a cute pair of shoes is, comfort needs to take a front seat. Yes, I'll still slip on a pair of comfortable heels for special occasions, but for everyday wear, I've embraced the search for the best flats out there.

As someone who shops for a living, I've tried out a ton of styles over the years. The best flats are the ones that look polished while still remaining just as comfy as your favorite slip-on sneakers . Podiatrists and my professional product reviewer colleagues shared picks with great features like padded insoles, breathable construction and even machine-washable fabrics in gorgeous styles from adorable ballet flats to timeless loafers and sweet Mary Janes.

Sizes: 4.5-11 | Width: Medium | Colors: 45 | Material: Microsuede | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: Rubber

Why we love it:Editorial Manager Zainab Akande says these adorable flats are her go-to's during spring and summer. She's had these for over five years and gives them a perfect five on the comfort scale, despite the minimal padding. With the under-$30 price tag, you can buy them in a few different colors — there are more than 45 to choose from!

What our pros say:"The bow detail adds a fun, feminine element that pairs well with pants, dresses and even shorts," Akande says. "I live in New York, and I have a lot of flats that get run down quickly from the amount of walking I do, but these have held up well over the years."

Keep in mind:Customer feedback on sizing ranged from "you should size up" to "definitely order a size down" to "these run true to size," so take a look at the heel to toe measurements in the size chart to confirm what might fit best for you.

Sizes: 4-14 | Widths: Narrow, Medium, Wide | Colors: 3 | Outsole material: Leather, Brahma hair, suede | Insole material: Padded leather

Why we love it:It doesn't get more classic than a round-toe ballet flat with a little bow on top. This pair is reliable and likely to have the right with a broad range of width options and wide range of sizes starting at a rare size 4. We love the scrunch heel that keeps them snug against your heel.

What our pros say:"This rounded-toe pair from Sam Edelman is the grown-up version of the Nordstrom-branded girls' ballet flats I grew up wearing. They're comfortable enough to withstand an entire day of walking around Manhattan, and I have the blister-free heels to prove it," says Assistant Editor Isabelle Paquette . "Overall, a great everyday pair of flats and within budget!

Keep in mind:They don't have a ton of arch support in mind. "They are very flat to the ground," Paquette mentions, "for those worried about support." She also notes that while the shoes have held up great after months of use, there is "the tiniest bit of wear" on her white flats.

Sizes: 5-12 | Width: Medium | Colors: 7 | Outsole material: 79% rubber, 21% calcium carbonate | Insole material: 100% leather

Why we love it:Bring on the buckles! These embellished Mary Janes are stylish and "some of the comfiest flats I've ever owned," spills Initiatives Writer Ellie Conley . Available in both suede and leather styles, you'll find that this zhuzhed-up flat style is surprisingly wearable.

What our pros say: "These babies had no break-in period whatsoever — so no blisters at all," says Conley. "That feels rare to me with most of the flats I've owned over the years. The strap that buckles over the top also helps keep them on."

Keep in mind:The flats run a little wide. "I hardly ever remove the buckle to put mine on," she notes. "I wish they conformed to the sides of my feet a little better, but hey, then they might not be as comfortable."

Sizes: 5-14 | Widths: Narrow, Medium, Wide | Colors: 28 | Outer material: Leather/velvet/fabric | Insole material: Padded leather

Why we love it:Take a page out of Carolyn Bessette Kennedy's book with a sleek pair of loafers that will take you from the office to a casual weekend look. We named this pair our pick for the best loafer of 2026 thanks to its straight-out-of-the-box soft leather, padded footbed and wide range of sizing options.

What our pros say:"I can wear them all day — and I live in New York City, which means I'm on my feet for most of the day," says Gift Editor Amanda Garrity . "It helps that the leather is incredibly soft, so it molds to the foot." Zaydenberg adds, "I have the Loraine loafers in three colors — that's how much I love them."

Keep in mind:The arch support could be better. That being said, if you tend to run into issues with shoes that don't have built-in support, a removable insole should help a lot.

Sizes: 5-13 | Widths: Narrow, Medium, Wide | Colors: 7 | Outsole material: Thermoplastic rubber (TR) | Insole material: Leather, removable microfiber-wrapped EVA foam

Why we love it:Vionic footwear is designed by a team of podiatrists and loved by podiatrists, including Dr. Elizabeth Daughtry, DPM, FACFAS and Dr. Hillary Brenner, New York based podiatrist and foot surgeon , who both recommend the brand. This style meets their comfort requirements: a wide toe box, insoles designed to support and hug your arches and two insoles to provide a more custom fit.

What our pros say:With the APMA Seal of Acceptance, this option is a great choice for those looking for style and helps promote good foot health," says Dr. Daughtry. "The adjustable strap allows for a more custom fit and is also offered in wide and narrow width options." The aforementioned seal is awarded by a committee of podiatrists who evaluate shoes according to foot health standards.

Keep in mind:The brand recommends that you let your feed slowly adjust to the shape and support of these shoes by wearing them just for a few hours for the first few days of use. "Within one to two weeks you should find the product completely comfortable and supportive," the website reads.

Sizes: 5-13 | Width: Medium | Colors: 9 | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: Recycled polyethylene terephthalate (rPET) thread

Why we love it:A favorite of Meghan Markle and a smattering of Yahoo Shopping editors, we love Rothy's because they're made of an extremely comfortable and packable material and they can be thrown into the washing machine anytime they start to look a little worse for wear. but she's not the only one who loves them. Shopping Manager Julia Webb is another Rothy's devotee and so are and Senior Commerce Writer Kristin Granero , who owns Rothy's in several colors. Why so popular? Not only are

What our pros say:Style Optimization Editor Hannah Oh says, "I put thousands of steps on my Rothy's flats walking (and running) all around Manhattan." After a "street sludge" run-in and a subsequent spin in the wash, Oh says, "they came out looking brand new." Commerce Deputy Editor Izabella Zaydenberg similarly says her pair is "still in great shape" despite an estimated 240 days of city wear, too.

Keep in mind:"I know it's a brand signature to have that little blue stripe on every shoe, but I really wish there was an option that was truly monochrome — no contrasting blue anywhere , not on the shoe or on the sole," says Oh. "It's not a dealbreaker but I would absolutely buy another pair if they came out with an all-black version."

Sizes: 5-12.5 | Widths: Regular/Wide, Medium/Narrow | Colors: 10 | Outsole material: EVA | Insole material: Cork, suede

Why we love it:Looking for some solid support from your flats? These timeless clogs have been around since the '70s and basically broke the internet in 2023 with a huge resurgence in popularity. The classic slip-ons have a deep heel cup that keeps your foot in place and helps distribute your weight more evenly and the suede-lined footbed molds to your feet over the break-in period, so these get more comfortable the longer you wear them.

What our pros say:Shopping Director Jeanine Edwards says they're just as comfortable as the brand's iconic Arizona sandals (our pick for best walking sandals ). While these Birks are the most casual flats on the list, Edwards says they look good with just about any kind of pants: "Jeans, joggers, trousers, cords, you name it!" She's had them for over three years and hasn't experienced foot pain or blisters. "The beauty of a mule is nothing rubbing against my heel. And I've never had any issues with the front or top rubbing my skin raw. I can wear them for long periods and they don't hurt my feet at all."

Keep in mind:Sizing runs as a range rather than a specific number. "I typically wear a size 6.5-7 and generally prefer a wider fit if it's available, so the 7-7.5 was actually perfect for me," says Oh.

Sizes: 5-13 | Widths: Medium, Wide | Colors: 11 | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: Removable microfiber wrapped EVA

Why we love it:These clever loafers are designed to collapse down to be fully flat, making them ideal for travel and hold the APMA Seal of Acceptance, perhaps due to their lightweight, flexible outsoles and shock-absorbing cushioning.

What our pros say:Dr. Daughtry is a big fan of these shoes. "The flat is a smartly crafted and easily packable option," she says. "It has a lightweight flexible sole and a removable arch support insole for additional support and cushioning." Even though they compress down, they still boast a deep heel cup for stability and ample arch support and the soft leather uppers are sourced from the Leather Working Group, which promotes responsible leather manufacturing.

Keep in mind:The heel and sole of the shoe — where all of the flexibility, arch support and shock absorption is — does have a chunkier, more casual look than your typically low-profile rubber loafer sole. With the right styling, you could pull off a business-casual look with these, but they might not be ideal for a more formal office setting.
