They tend to feel lighter and less bulky than traditional sneakers, making them a smart choice for travelers, people with mobility concerns and anyone who values comfort and convenience.

Best slip-on sneakers for women in 2026
Sizes: 6-16.5 | Widths: Standard and wide | Materials:Foam, knit fabric, rubber | Colors:6 | Care instructions: Spot clean with a soft cloth
Why we love it: These Kizik sneaks may look like your average lace-up shoe, but they're actually extremely innovative. The sneaker is designed to be totally hands-free. You can stick your foot right in and the back of the shoe will pop back up, thanks to a structured heel cup that prevents it from curling in.
What our pros say: After seeing that these Kizik sneakers had so many positive reviews, I knew I needed to give them a try. These are probably the most structured and supportive sneakers I've ever worn, and they were comfortable straight out of the box, with no break-in period needed. They also offer great traction, and while they're technically not waterproof, I wore them several times to walk my dog in the rain, and my feet stayed pretty dry.
Keep in mind: The customer reviews of these shoes are overwhelmingly positive. The only small consideration mentioned once was a minor critique that the sole was harder than expected. Another person said the shoes felt a little short. We found them to run true to size, but if you're between sizes, we recommend sizing up.
- Slips on and off hands-free thanks to innovative design
- Super supportive and structured
- Some water resistance
- Good traction in the sole
- One shopper said the insole was a little hard
Sizes:5.5-10.5 | Widths: Medium | Materials:Woven textile, rubber | Weight: 1.08 pounds | Colors:11 | Care instructions: Spot clean
Why we love it: Thousands of Amazon shoppers have praised these sock-like sneakers, including doctors, nurses, teachers and others who spend all day on their feet. For under $25, these shoes check off several boxes: a wider, roomy toe box, an elevated sole with lots of cushioning, a breathable material and the ability to slip them on without fiddling with laces or straps.
What our pros say: Board-certified podiatrist Dr. Polina Zaydenberg says the sole offers excellent shock absorption. "The platform is great for heel pain and metatarsalgia [pain in the ball of the foot]," she says. Zaydenberg also raves about the roomy toe box, a must if you have bunions or hammer toes.
Keep in mind: The soles are designed to be extra grippy and non-slip. However, one customer noted that the rubber sole tends to squeak on certain types of flooring.
- Platform sole for heel pain and ball-of-the-foot pain
- Really affordable option
- Comfortable, roomy toe box
- Soles make squeak on certain flooring
Sizes:6-12 | Widths: Medium and wide | Materials:Leather, rubber | Weight: 0.56 lbs | Colors:1 | Care instructions: Spot clean
Why we love it: Slip-on sneakers can look elevated too. Just look at these leather Vionic slip-ons that are versatile enough to look good with jeans, leggings, skirts and dresses. You can't see it from the outside, but the sole features a deep heel cup and shock absorption for maximum comfort.
What our pros say: Vionics are one of podiatric surgeon Dr. Hillary Brenner's top picks because "they have extra arch support, and the company takes biomechanics into consideration when constructing their shoes." Brenner explains that the elastic panels and the handy back pull-tab make these slip-ons super easy to slide into.
Keep in mind: The nice leather uppers are slightly more difficult to clean. According to Vionic's cleaning guide , the leather can be buffed with a mixture of dish soap and warm water. Tougher stains may require a leather conditioner.
- Elevated look thanks to the leather
- Elastic panels and back pull-tab for easy sliding on
- Comfy deep heel cup and shock absorption
- Extremely lightweight
- Material is tougher to clean
Sizes:3.5-13 | Widths: Regular and wide | Materials:Synthetic textile, rubber | Weight: 1.3 lbs | Colors:2 | Care instructions: Machine washable
Why we love it: If your feet tend to overheat, choose a ventilated option like these. With an entirely knit and mesh upper, these supportive slip-ons will keep things cool and breezy. They also feature a reinforced toe to protect your feet and an insole with arch support. And while the material isn't waterproof, it is machine washable so if you ever want to freshen them up, you can just toss them in the wash.
What our pros say: Dr. Dana Canuso , a podiatrist and chemist, loves this pair of Skechers because "they are cute and offer great arch support — perfect for everyday wear." Skechers notes that its arch support design was based on research involving 120,000 foot scans.
Keep in mind: Because there aren't any laces, the shoes rely on a stretch-fit design. With continued use, the opening of the shoe is likely to stretch over time (and there's no closure to secure it).
- Ample, podiatrist-approved arch support
- Breathable knit and mesh material
- Machine washable
- May stretch out over time
Sizes:5-12 | Widths: Narrow, regular, wide, extra-wide | Materials:Suede, mesh, rubber | Weight: 0.45 lbs | Colors:8 | Care instructions: Machine washable
Why we love it: If you prefer the ease of backless sneakers, check out this pair by Easy Spirit. The sporty kicks feature a flexible outsole and a cushioned insole with a molded heel cup for added comfort. Reviewers say they can last for years, and while there aren't official care instructions on the page, several people mentioned how they were able to easily clean them in the washing machine.
What our pros say: Brenner is a fan because "the treads on the bottom of the shoe are sturdy, the material on the top of the shoe is soft and they have a wide chunky heel." This means you'll have good grip and traction, plus serious support under the heel where a lot of pressure and weight is focused.
Keep in mind: Despite the perforations in the upper, customers note that the shoe doesn't let much air in through the internal padding. This doesn't affect the sneaker's functionality, but expect them to feel a bit warmer.
- Supportive and keeps feet securely place
- Cushioned with a chunky heel
- Great traction with a sturdy tread
- Perforations don't let air in
Sizes:5.5-11 | Widths: Medium | Materials:Mesh, phylon | Weight: 0.88 lbs | Colors:17 | Care instructions: N/A
Why we love it: The cable tie on these shoes lets you adjust the tightness without dealing with laces. They're also really breathable with a mesh upper and perforated arch to keep your feet cool. Shoppers say these are easy to slip on and off and are comfortable for long days on your feet, thanks to the cushioned platform sole.
What our pros say: The outsole has an air bubble and a chunky rubber construction, which Zaydenberg says is "a great shock absorber" and provides "plenty of cushioning." She also loves that it has a wide toe box that accommodates bunions and hammer toes.
Keep in mind: Some customers noted that the sole lacks strong traction. The brand also doesn’t list specific care instructions, so it’s best to be cautious when cleaning your shoes and lean toward spot cleaning with soapy water rather than putting them in the washing machine.
- Cable tie for easy securing and adjusting
- Cushioned, chunky sole
- Breathable mesh upper
- Good shock absorption
- Shoppers say they're not super grippy
Sizes:6-12 | Widths: Medium | Materials:Wool, rubber | Weight: 1.4 lbs | Colors:2 | Care instructions: Spot clean
Why we love it: You may think of wool as a warm winter fabric but wool actually has a natural ability to manage moisture and sweat as well as regulate temperature. The shoes are lightweight, breathable and super comfortable, and they're even odor-resistant. If you can believe it, the brand even recommends wearing these without socks!
What our pros say: Dr. Alissa Kuizinas , a board-certified podiatrist, recommends these because they have wide toe boxes and are designed to be worn without socks, unlike most other sneakers. "They have a textured insole designed to stimulate the nerves of the feet, which helps improve blood flow and increase muscle strength in the feet," she says.
Keep in mind: If the price point is giving you pause, know that it's because of the quality of the wool upper. Also, some people mentioned that the shoe seemed to run a little small. If you're between sizes, size up for a roomier fit.
- Sweat-wicking wool material
- Can be worn without socks
- Very lightweight but still supportive
- Temperature-regulating material
- May run a little small
How we chose the best slip-on sneakers for women
While my own experiences with slip-on sneakers and staff feedback on the options they love formed the baseline of this article, I wanted to turn to the pros to make sure that our recommendations were both accessible and foot-friendly. I interviewed a team of podiatrists and physical therapists about the best slip-on sneakers for women, because who would know better than experts in the field?
Many of the picks they recommended are represented in this article. Most, if not all of their recommendations centered around a handful of characteristics: a roomy or wide toe box, a supportive insole that's specifically shaped to support your arches, and shock absorption in areas that bear a lot of weight (like the heel and ball of the foot). Other things — like style, color and the ability to slip on the shoes completely hands-free — were the cherry on top.
After learning their tips and tricks for shopping for a comfortable and supportive pair, I tested a few pairs myself. My observations were primarily focused on how easy it was to put each shoe on and take it off, as well as the general comfort of each pair and how long I was able to wear them for before feeling any pain or fatigue. Think of this list as your guidebook to the doctor-approved sneakers that real customers and staff editors have actually worn and liked in real life.
Factors to consider when choosing a slip-on sneaker
-
Design
-
Sole design: As for outsoles, look for "natural or synthetic rubber soles that will give the shoe long-lasting wear and anti-slip wearability," says Canuso. "Stay away from single-molded plastic soles which are both slippery and tend to lose their shape quicker." A flat, flexible sole is also key, according to Kuizinas. "It is best to avoid slip-on sneakers that have stiff or rigid soles, as these will end up feeling uncomfortable when worn for walking, even if they have a lot of cushioning," she says.
-
Toe box:Kuizinas recommends looking for shoes that have a wide toe box. While a pointed-toe shoe may be pretty, it forces the feet into a scrunched-up position and doesn't allow your toes to sit properly against the bottom of the shoe, which worsens balance and leads to long-term discomfort.
-
Hands-free options: While not all of our slip-on sneaker picks are hands-free, our No. 1 option is. That means that you can stick your foot right in without touching or picking up the shoe and it'll secure itself onto your feet. This is a great accessible option for anyone who struggles with bending down or reaching down to their feet due to age, pregnancy, disability and more.
-
-
Material: While the actual fabrics and rubbers that your shoes are made of will vary from manufacturer to manufacturer, material impacts both the weight and warmth of your shoe.
-
Warmth:In colder climates, you'll want an insulated or sturdy material and perhaps one that is weather-resistant. In warmer climates, a breathable, perforated fabric will help regulate the temperature of your feet.
-
Weight: None of the shoes on this list are particularly heavy, but note the overall weight of your shoe. A heavier shoe will cause quicker fatigue and may be harder to wear for long periods of time, whereas a very lightweight shoe is an excellent option for long days of walking or travel. Just make sure that the light shoe is still made of a durable material.
-
-
Arch support:Experts agreed that this is the most important consideration for slip-on shoes. "Arch support is probably the first thing to consider when looking for a comfortable slip-on sneaker. If you're going to be using it for walking or other activities, you want to make sure that the shoe is giving you enough arch support for your foot type," says Dr. Dave Candy, a physical therapist and owner of More 4 Life .
-
Cushioning:The next key to any good sneaker? One that's properly cushioned. "A soft material and padded insole are key to selecting a shoe that provides cushioning," Marian Yau , a podiatrist and nail surgery expert says. EVA cushioning (a rubbery, lightweight foam material) in particular will give you the comfort you need when spending all day on your feet: Brenner says this material works so well because "it not only adds cushioning in the shoe but it also helps with shock absorption."
Slip-on sneaker FAQs
How should slip-on sneakers fit?
With normal lace-up styles, you have the ability to make them as tight or loose as you like, but since slip-on sneakers don’t always give you that option, it's important to make sure they fit properly from the start. "An ideal slip-on shoe should fit snugly, but not so tightly that it restricts movement. During walks, you shouldn't be able to move your foot because they are too loose," Yau says. And Kuizinas adds, "Slip-on sneakers should fit snugly around the heel and mid arch so that the shoe does not slip off, but they should have plenty of room around the toe box area. Ideally, you want about 0.5 to 1 centimeters of additional length from the ends of the toes, and around the sides of the toes, to allow for the necessary motion of lengthening that occurs while walking."
Should you wear socks with slip-ons?
You may think slip-on sneakers function more like a pair of flats and you don’t need to wear socks with them, but most of the experts we talked to recommended wearing socks. "They can help prevent blisters and prevent your shoes from getting too stinky — remember, it's easier to wash your socks than your shoes," Candy says. Yau agrees: "Wearing socks with slip-on shoes helps prevent blisters and unwanted rubbing. In addition, socks absorb sweat and keep feet dry. Wearing socks with slip-on shoes prevents your feet from being stressed by adding another layer of cushioning."
Are slip-on sneakers good for walking and overall foot health?
According to Brenner: "Yes, as long as they meet the criteria of having a wide chunky heel [and] good arch support. You also don’t want them to bend in half like a burrito and most importantly make sure the shoe fits properly." While great for everyday errands and walks, they're also ideal to wear around the house instead of slippers, as they give you more support.
Canuso says slip-ons are ideal for people with mobility issues or those who have trouble with laces. "They are also a great idea for those with hip or knee problems that cannot bend down and put on their own shoes," she says.
