A classic closet staple that isn't going anywhere, these white sneaker styles will carry you through any and every occasion.

Rain or shine, you can count on a trusty white sneaker to come through for you.
Rain or shine, you can count on a trusty white sneaker to come through for you.

Ah, the ubiquitous white sneaker. You can wear a pair with jeans , casual dresses, leggings , you name it. I've gone through several pairs, ranging from totally classic to funky and fashion-forward: The simplicity of the shoe makes it one of the most important style staples to have in your line-up.

But what exactly makes a good white sneaker? There are hundreds of options on the market ranging from $15 canvas kicks and sporty "dad shoes" to $500 premium sneakers and even hybrids like sneakerinas (no, that's not a typo — it's a type of ballet flat /sneaker combo that has been spotted on celebrities like Julia Roberts and Bella Hadid).

The truth is that there is not one, perfect, ultimate white sneaker for everyone, but there are white sneakers that have been tried and tested by thousands for comfort, utility and durability through years and thousands (millions?) of steps. Since it's impossible to tell whether a shoe will require a break-in period or remain comfortable after 10,000 steps of walking just by looking at it, our staff of shopping writers and NYC-based editors weighed in on their extensive experience walking thousands of steps in white sneakers.

Our final list is based on expert experience and feedback from verified reviewers, so whether you're looking for a budget-friendly option, a premium shoe or a trendy new option that's completely comfortable straight out of the box, there's something on this list of the best white sneakers for you, including styles for men and women.

The best white sneakers of 2026

Sizes: 4-13 | Width: Regular and wide | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material:Foam | Outer: Faux leather (polyurethane) | Break-in period: None

Why we love it:These shoes have gone viral on TikTok and let's just say that they're well-deserving of their Internet fame. Both Gifting Editor Amanda Garrity and Senior Style Editor Jessica Teich named the Time Off sneaker as their top choice, citing their walkability and shocking all-day comfort as the reason for their loyalty.

What our pros say:Teich says, "Living in New York means a 15,000-step day is typically the baseline. I discovered these mega-popular Dr. Scholl's sneakers a few years ago that looked cute but felt as supportive and plush as a trainer, and boy, have they delivered." And Garrity says, "I've clocked in upwards of 25,000 steps wearing these beauties, and my feet still felt as fresh as they did the moment I laced 'em up (which says something because I deal with bunions and plantar fasciitis, oof)." The wider toe box accommodates these conditions (and any swelling from walking all day!). She adds, "I was hesitant to get them because I thought they'd look like an orthotic shoe, but they're rather unassuming and the platform is a nice touch."

Keep in mind:"The soles get dirty easily, so I regularly clean them with warm water and Dawn soap or a Magic Eraser when I'm in a rush. I've gotten used to it, but it's a bit annoying," says Garrity. And Teich added that the toe of the shoe tends to get dirty quicker than the rest of the shoe, so it requires cleaning more often.

Pros
  • Great for walking longer distances
  • Feels like a plush trainer but looks like a leather sneaker
  • Wider toe box adds comfort
  • Slight platform sole
Cons
  • Tends to get dirty, especially around the toe

Sizes: 3-15 | Width: Regular | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: EVA foam | Outer: 100% leather | Break-in period: None

Why we love it:For dressing up or wearing casually, the Reebok Club C 85 is a great everyday men's shoe that'll work year round. It's made of 100% leather, so they're easy to wipe clean if they get dirty. And best of all, the Club C 85's are available in all white, white with a hint of black, green or blue and even white with a brown gum sole — whatever suits your fancy. It's proof that white sneakers don't have to be boring.

What our pros say:Senior Deals Writer Chris McGraw says that he's worn these sneakers five days a week for the past three years and has repurchased them twice. Talk about a vote of confidence. "They're comfortable and go with everything, plus, you can typically find them for cheap," he explains.

Keep in mind:McGraw noted that he had one of his many pairs of Reebok Club C 85's fall apart "rather quickly" at one point. However, he noted, "after three pairs total, I think that was an anomaly."

Pros
  • Several design variations available
  • Works in both casual and more dressed-up contexts
  • Durable leather exterior
Cons
  • Tester experienced some quality issues

Sizes: 4.5-11 | Width: Regular | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: EVA foam | Outer: Suede | Break-in period: None

Why we love it:Don't let the cool retro look and mixed suede design fool you: these Reebok AZs are fairly affordable and hold up decently over time too. I own these in three colors (white, red and black) because they're a great low-profile shoe that looks good and isn't too chunky or heavy on the foot.

What our pros say:I first discovered these shoes last year and promptly made them my primary sneaker for the next two months, at least. They're incredibly easy to slip on and off without tying (a lazy requirement of mine!) but they never come untied while you're walking. Plus, a girl sitting next to me on a bus asked me where I got them, so that immediately gives them cool points in my book.

Keep in mind:If you're looking for a color and fabric combo that's most likely to stay clean-looking for as long as possible, white suede isn't exactly what I'd suggest. But these shoes don't feel as precious as you'd expect — the cream color is more forgiving than a stark, pure white so they can take a little wear and tear as long as you avoid getting 'em really wet.

Pros
  • Easy to slip on and off
  • Cool retro suede design
  • Low profile silhouette
Cons
  • Suede is a little high maintenance.

Sizes: 5.5-10 | Width: Regular | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: Foam and rubber blend | Outer: Mesh and synthetic material | Break-in period: None

Why we love it:One of my friends is a wedding photographer and she says that these are the shoes she and so many other photographers swear by. That's not surprising at all, considering the fact that the New Balance 740s strike the perfect balance between functional (they feel like lightweight running shoes!) and stylish, with their trendy "dad shoe" look and reflective streaks.

What our pros say:Whenever I know I'm going to be on my feet for awhile — whether it's traveling, spending a day on set or photographing a six hour long event — these are the shoes I reach for. They're extremely lightweight thanks to the mesh construction and my feet never get hot in them. They're also really cushioned under the heel which is where I always start to feel fatigue first.

Keep in mind:I generally prefer my shoes to come in a wide option, and these don't. But the toe box is fairly roomy so I found that my usual size fit fine and there's no need to size up for width. They're also not a "bouncy" shoe if you prefer that feel.

Pros
  • Stylish look with mesh panels and reflective streaks
  • Extremely lightweight
  • Well-cushioned, especially under the heel
Cons
  • Not the bounciest sole

Sizes: 5-12 | Width: Regular | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: Foam | Outer: Leather | Break-in period: Yes

Why we love it:Nike Air Force 1s have been on a 20-year hot streak. From the eponymous 2002 by Nelly to Gen Z's love of the shoe, Air Forces give a classic look that's great for anyone who wants a really crisp white sneaker. It's a really durable shoe too: Evergreen Commerce Director Lauren Matthews-Ide says that she wears them "pretty much every day."

What our pros say:"I love the clean, minimalist look of these shoes — they pair just as easily with jeans as they do with dresses or leggings. They’re sturdy (almost surprisingly so at first), but that structure is what makes them so durable," says Matthews-Ide. "I’ve worn some pairs for years, and aside from a few scuffs, they’ve held up so well. Bonus: They’re super easy to wipe clean, so they still look fresh with minimal effort."

Keep in mind:"They do have a short break-in period to soften — they also aren't the best shoes to wear for long days of walking (say, at a theme park) because they don't have a ton of cushioning," says Matthews-Ide.

Pros
  • Clean, minimal, crisp white look
  • Extremely durable, structured leather
  • Easy to wipe clean
  • Versatile styling options
Cons
  • Leather requires a break-in period

Sizes: Women's 5-14.5, Men's 4-13.5 | Width: Regular | Outsole material: Gum rubber | Insole material: Gum rubber | Outer: Full-grain leather | Break-in period: Brief

Why we love it:This classic shoe was designed in 1949 as a soccer shoe, but it recently experienced a renaissance and soared in popularity for its gum-sole design and funky color options. McGraw says that he's been wearing Sambas since he was 10!

What our pros say:I was skeptical of Sambas at first, but after trying a pair of my own, I can confirm that they're a really nice, sleek shoe that makes any outfit instantly look cooler. Adidas has released so many different variations (although the OG is my favorite) and it's fun to shop all of the options and find one that fits your personal style the best — but the white leather is obviously a classic.

Keep in mind:I experienced a little bit of heel irritation the first time I wore these, and upon checking the customer reviews, other shoppers have also mentioned some initial back-of-the-heel discomfort as well. They also tend to run a little narrow, so size up if you're between sizes or have wider feet. McGraw also laments that they've "gotten too popular" and are "harder to find on sale."

Pros
  • Trendy heritage style
  • Made of full-grain leather for great durability
  • Wide variety of design options
Cons
  • Leather requires a brief break-in period
  • Runs slightly narrow

Sizes: 5.5-11 | Width: Regular | Outsole material: Rubber | Insole material: N/A | Outer: Leather and terrycloth | Break-in period: None

Why we love it:If you're in the mood to splurge, these Kate Spade sneakers are one of my favorite chunkier shoe options. They don't feel bulky or heavy and the design details are just too fun — the outsole tread pattern spills over the side of the shoe, giving it a super unique texture, along with the myriad fun color options.

What our pros say:I find these shoes to be really comfortable — there's an inner terrycloth lining along the top of the shoe opening and heel, so it minimizes how much the leather rubs on your foot. I own a white leather pair with green detailing that sadly isn't sold anymore, but I love how fun they are. Mine are even decked out with some shoe charms to really amp up the personality factor.

Keep in mind:The soles are fairly flat. I wouldn't say that they're really designed for arch support, so if you have really high arches you may need to add insoles.

Pros
  • Cool rubber tread design and details
  • Chunkier silhouette that doesn't feel overly bulky
  • Lining to prevent blistering
Cons
  • Lacks arch support

How we chose the best white sneakers

My life as a style editor is one big testing period for the best white sneakers out there. I've rotated multiple pairs in and out over the past decade at least — and the rest of the Yahoo staff has too. And for footwear, there's no better test than hard-earned time and extended wear.

To start, I solicited feedback from 80 editors on their experience testing white sneakers and received feedback from a seven experts who reported on each shoe's longevity, wearability, comfort and style, as well as any downsides to keep in mind. Based on the findings pulled from 70 questions answered, I narrowed it down to the most important components: comfort, style (both trendy and classic) and budget based on research, personal experience and staff recommendations. Sneakers were evaluated based on durability, comfort and break-in period.

I interviewed a stylist for insight on which white sneakers are easy to style, and a podiatrist to get the scoop on the components and features that indicate a shoe is good for your feet. I also cross-checked our final selects against vetted, verified and legitimate customer reviews to get a well-rounded look at the market. The result? This unmatched list of the best options available in 2026.

Factors to keep in mind while shopping for white sneakers

"When choosing white sneakers, people should prioritize fit, support and structural design over aesthetics alone," says Dr. Bobby Pourziaee , D.P.M., a podiatrist based in Beverly Hills. But the good news is that there are plenty of options that are both supportive and stylish. Here are some more specific considerations you'll want to keep top of mind as you shop:

  • Material:

    • Leather: Leather sneakers are typically the most durable and long-lasting, though they may also be on the heavier side due to the weight of the material and typically require a short break-in period to soften them. Once they're worn in, though, they mold to the shape of your foot for a super comfortable fit that lasts.

    • Faux leather: A more affordable alternative that still gives you the polished leather look, faux or vegan leather offers the same feel but may not have as long of a lifespan or stretch and mold to your foot as well as the real deal.

    • Suede: One of the biggest sneaker trends of the past few years, a suede shoe offers a fun, soft, sleek alternative to a leather shoe. The downside, however, is that the material is much less durable and is far more susceptible to stains and water damage.

    • Canvas: Highly breathable and lightweight, canvas shoes are ideal for warmer months. The downside of that breathability is that they get wet fairly easily (and may soak right through if you accidentally step in a puddle).

    • Mesh: "Breathable materials like mesh or knit uppers help reduce moisture buildup and irritation," says Dr. Pourziaee. Since mesh isn't the most structured material, you'll often see shoes designed with a partial mesh upper to increase airflow without compromising the overall design.

  • Construction: While you may not be able to determine if a sneaker has a bouncy midsole or a stable heel counter with just a glance, we all know what it feels like to wear flimsy shoes that clearly lack good internal structure. To make sure that your sneakers are constructed for long-term support, look for a shoe with a cushioned insole as well as a solid outsole with good traction and a tread pattern that helps grip the floor. "This helps prevent slipping and ensures the shoe maintains support over time," says Dr. Pourziaee. "You'll also want a spacious toe box that allows the toes to spread naturally, which helps maintain balance and reduces pressure on the forefoot."

  • Style:"I look for a fashionable shoe that is going to last. I want to know that I'll be able to wear them with several looks in my wardrobe," says fashion stylist Jana Meister . Occasion and lifestyle are big style determinants for your ideal white sneaker:

    • Seasonality: Canvas sneakers have a more beachy, summery feel and are great for breathability during the hotter months. On the other hand, a leather or suede sneaker tends to have a bulkier, more fashion-forward look but may require some waterproofing treatment.

    • Color: A white sneaker could also be any shade from a crisp, bright white to a warmer cream tone.

    • Details: And if you prefer a little colorful detailing, there are several options on the list that have darker soles, silver streaks or even pops of green, black or brown.

  • Ease of cleaning: Sneakers get dirty, and, well, white sneakers get dirty even quicker. Choosing a pair that are easy to clean will extend their lifespan and help you maintain their appearance for longer. "I want to know that my sneakers are going to last a couple of seasons without looking too worn or loosing that crisp white color," says Meister. "Ideally the material can be sprayed with a stain repellant so I can get more wear out of my shoes." Leather or faux leather are the easiest materials to wipe clean, whereas something like suede is more difficult to maintain.

White sneaker FAQs

What’s the best way to clean white sneakers?

Your white sneakers got scuffed or you inevitably stepped in something gross — it's a fact of life that you'll have to clean them. For canvas, knit or mesh sneakers, "I typically remove the laces and soak them in warm soapy water for about an hour before I spot clean or scrub any areas," says Meister. "Then, scrub the shoes using a soft brush or toothbrush with a mixture of dish soap and warm water."

Meister also recommends using a cleaning eraser or Shout Spray to get stubborn areas. Note that if you're dealing with leather or faux leather sneakers, you'll want to skip the soak and instead skip right to spot cleaning with a toothbrush. Magic Erasers should also be avoided because they can break down the leather material — but they're safe to use on rubber soles and any non-leather areas.

What’s the best way to break in a pair of leather sneakers?

"Breaking in" a shoe isn't as aggressive as it sounds — it's about slowly softening and loosening the fabric so that it's more comfortable and, in the case of leather, molds to the shape of your foot. "When I am trying to break in a pair of shoes for the first few times, I always wear them around the house with thick socks to soften up the material and loosen the fit just slightly," says Meister.

Hot tip: "I've also used a hairdryer on low heat over tight spots to speed up the process. You can warm up the shoe and flex the toe box area and bend the shoes with your hands a few times to soften the sole before wearing them."

What shoe features should people with wide or narrow feet look for? What about someone with high arches?

Great question. According to Dr. Pourziaee, "People with narrow feet should look for shoes with structured uppers and secure lacing systems so the foot does not slide inside the shoe." And if you have wider feet, "prioritize wide toe boxes and shoes offered in multiple width options to prevent compression that can lead to bunions or nerve irritation."

For anyone with high arches, you'll "generally benefit from sneakers with strong cushioning and built in arch support, since [your] feet naturally absorb less shock," Dr. Pourziaee says. "A supportive midsole and mild rocker sole can help distribute pressure more evenly during walking."
