I've always wanted to be that woman who is dashing around the city in a pair of heels. In actuality, that is seldom the case. As a walker, I value practical footwear and take into consideration that if I'm going to be on my feet for hours and hours and hours, then I need to match that with my choices. And the thing about a really great pair of strappy sandals is… in heat your feet, or at least mine, feel the consequences a lot quicker. However, when we got our first taste of balmy weather last week, I also quickly came to the realization that warm weather doesn't preclude a really cute pair of strappy sandals. They just have to have the right heel.

Margaux The Dylan Sandal

The shoe in question? Margaux's Dylan. A minimal sandal with asymmetrical double straps at the toe—which has a modern shape that's not quite square not quite pointed and completely elegant— and an ankle closure, the shoe has barely there lines that are all sorts of chic but still secure on the foot. And then of course there's the kitten heel. Minimal and walkable, it's the pared down straps, which are strategically designed to be super functional, which keeps this pair looking extra elevated. I walked a few miles or so in these while wearing an a-line dress and dare I say it, I looked extremely sophisticated. All without compromising comfort. The padded leather sole does help with cushion factor, but I maintain even without it, the 1.5 inch kitten heel and strap that don't shift or create a sensory nightmare allow you to get your steps in without much concern.

This pair of sandals has also convinced me that burgundy isn't just a tone that should be relegated to the cold months of the year. It's warm and fairly neutral, so it pairs well with golden tones and complements blues, and even makes a fun contrast with red. It's not the obvious choice, but it makes for all the more sophisticated styling, and I might also add, that it's easier to style for day to night. Here, the gloss of the patent leather straps also add to the dress factor, but I'd argue it would have day-to-night appeal regardless.

The beautiful leatherwork (which is done by hand in Spain), renders the sandal extremely comfortable, but beautiful too. The quality is in the craftsmanship—and the details.Photography by Florence Sullivan

For the days I need polish, function and a little bit of oomph from a strappy sandal this spring and summer, I know where I will be turning day after day.
