When the school year starts to wind down, I start to have visions of what summer will look like. I picture picnics, beach trips, and long walks to get ice cream with a smiling family.
And then every year, like clockwork, I'm hit with rainy weekends, unexpected cold snaps, and choruses of "Mom, I'm bored!"
This year, I will be prepared, and have some bad-weather activities on-hand so that we don't just default to nonstop screen time on rainy days. LEGO sets are always a good diversion, and I've found one that lets me keep my summer vibes going even if the weather doesn't exactly comply.
The set is Stitch & Scrump , arriving just in time for vacation. Stitch looks seasonally appropriate, with a grass skirt and ukulele ready for an island celebration. Scump, the doll is a bonus—even if Lilo made her with her head too big.
The set is perfect for a family to work on together. It's age-graded for kids ages 9+,so it won' be so hard for kids to put together. (Compare/contrast with Toothless , which is 18+!) You can even build Stitch and Scump separately and make it a multi-day project, although, at just 713 pieces, you can also knock it out in an afternoon if that's preferred. The set retails for $70.
This isn't the first time LEGO has partnered with good old Experiment 626. If the kids in your life are in the midst of Stitch mania, they can also get BrickHeadz versions of Stitch or of Angel —they're smaller, easier builds that are perfect for room decorations.
There's also a beach fun set for kids 4+, a more complicated beach house set f or kids 9+, a Stitch with an ice cream cone for kids 9+—another summery set!—and a Stitch minifigure keychain for those who want just a little something. Either way, for those grad gifts, vacation houses, and unexpected indoor days, Stitch has you covered.
