TCU Horned Frogs discuss their experience in the defense
TCU Horned Frogs Defensive Coordinator Andy Avalos discusses their experience in the defense. Avalos talks about how they have talent at the Linebacker position and how they have guys come back from the NFL and showing them some knowledge.

Lack of overall experience at linebacker.
How much does it help to have such good experience up front and good experience in the back?
You know, as you go year to year, um, last year, obviously, we had two NFL, 2 guys that left to go play in the NFL to play linebacker, and over the last, you know, 2.5 years, this will be our 3rd season building a defensive front in the D-line the way it is, bringing the secondary together, you know, we lost a really good safety to the NFL.
Um, but being able to see and, uh, you know, those guys coming back too and talking to these guys when they're back in and around here, you know, in between their training camps and, you know, dropping some knowledge on the boys about what it looks like up there and what we do here and like, let's keep doing and keep growing, not just football wise but leadership wise and how you lead yourself and it'll help you.
Um, so it helps, it helps to have those guys around the linebackers.
We, we have linebackers, they're talented, um, you know, of course they didn't quite, don't have quite the experience that other positions may have, and we're working diligently to get them that experience, to get them the reps on different levels, whether it's situations they know exactly what's gonna happen, so they, they can build the confidence and, and get used to reacting, put them in situations where they have to react so they get used to doing it all.
And putting them through, you know, a lot about playing linebackers, the operation of it.
Getting the call in the pre-snap, knowing the personnel, knowing the down and distance, the situation, and then you got to flip around, look at an offense, make adjustments on the fly and the lineup, and now it's time to start doing your job of actually executing your 1 11th and making plays.
So we're doing all the things we can right now from a pre-snap standpoint to build the experience because that's a lot of what football is when you talk about experienced players, it's all the reps they've banked of how they handle themselves in the pre-snap, how they communicate, how they adjust, how they play.
Out in front of adjustments and then they lock in and and they go, uh, they go play and win their one on ones and, and do it really well.
