Crossfield Elementary Capital Project
Information about the Renovations and Additions
The Crossfield Elementary School project was identified as part of the 2008 Renovation Queue, which was approved by the Fairfax County School Board (FCSB) in 2009 . Crossfield Elementary ranks 42 out of 63 schools on the list. Planning and design efforts for the renovation were funded through the 2019 School Bond Referendum, with construction funding provided by the 2021 School Bond Referendum.
Upon completion, the project will modernize the school facility, providing enhanced learning environments and fully upgrade mechanical, electrical, and plumbing systems. The renovation will also expand the building by approximately 11,638 square feet, including a partial addition to the administrative offices and main entrance to improve visual oversight of the site and bus loop.
Site improvements will enhance both safety and functionality, including updates to the bus loop, an extended Kiss & Ride area, new playgrounds, and expanded outdoor classroom spaces. Once completed, Crossfield Elementary School will total approximately 100,814 Gross Square Feet and will be designed to meet the Virginia Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) Designed certification standards, supporting a healthy, sustainable, and energy-efficient learning environment.
The Collaborative for High Performance Schools (CHPS) recognizes Crossfield Elementary School Renovation and Additions as a high-performance learning environment that has earned CHPS Designed status under the VA-CHPS 2011 criteria. Crossfield Elementary School Renovation and Additions has achieved the necessary prerequisites and credits to be recognized as a CHPS Designed School. The project earned 44 points exceeding the threshold for a renovation with an addition project. CHPS is pleased to welcome Crossfield Elementary School Renovation and Additions to the distinguished rank of education facilities that are leading the movement to build this new generation of healthy, high performance, green schools.
