Fairfax County Public Schools’ recent  comprehensive boundary review  was initiated by the Fairfax County School Board with their update to  Boundary Policy 8130  in July 2024. The policy provides guidance to help ensure that enrollment, facilities, programming, and student well-being remain consistent with the needs of an evolving community. 

The board  approved boundary changes  in January 2026, and the adopted boundary changes will be implemented in the 2026-27 school year. The divisionwide review of school boundaries, which aligns with FCPS’  2023-30 Strategic Plan , was the first of its kind in more than 40 years. 

Current Boundary Studies

Skyview High School and Western Pyramids

After the comprehensive boundary review ended, FCPS began the process of developing the boundary for our new school,  Skyview High School , which is located in the western part of the county. The School Board is scheduled to vote on the boundary for Skyview in June. Establishing a boundary for a new high school may also affect surrounding schools and pyramids. Areas for an Extended Review

The comprehensive boundary review identified several areas or “hot spots” that need an extended review to allow for additional community engagement and input. There were initially six studies, which have since been grouped into four, based on how close the sites are to each other. The superintendent has directed staff to provide boundary recommendations to the School Board for the following areas by January 2027. • Bren Mar Park Elementary School Feeder Schools : Holmes Middle School, Key Middle School, and Annandale and Lewis High Schools
• Greenway Downs, Jefferson Village, City Park Homes, and Kingsley Commons, Plus Glasgow MS : Falls Church, Justice, and McLean HS Pyramids
• Gunston, Halley, Laurel Hill, and Lorton Station Elementary Schools
• Rolling Valley Elementary School Feeders, and Keene Mill Elementary School and Surrounding Schools

Previous Boundary Adjustments

The following boundary adjustments were previously adopted by the School Board and are in phasing:

• ADOPTED Countywide Boundary Changes (from the 2024-2026 Boundary Review) (for the 2026-2027 school year)
• ADOPTED McLean Elementary Schools Boundary Adjustment (fully phased for the 2029-30 school year)

Find Your School Assignment

School assignment is determined by residence address. Visit the  boundary (attendance area) locator  to determine a school assignment for your address. The changes approved in January 2026 will be implemented in School Year 2026-27 with phasing. The changes to the school assignments are not yet shown in the Boundary Locator due to the connection to our Student Information Systems (SIS).
