FCPS Vision for Inclusion

In FCPS, we envision schools where inclusion is the norm and every child’s potential is fully realized. Together, we are creating a future where belonging and equity define the educational experience for all students. Inclusive experiences for children with and without disabilities create a sense of belonging and membership, support positive social relationships and friendships, and help all students reach their full academic potential. 

Inclusion is a fundamental right and a cornerstone of equity in education. Our vision is for students with disabilities to have equitable access as their peers to academics, extracurriculars, community activities, and educational settings, as appropriate, in the most inclusive environment to meet the unique needs and goals of each individual student. 

By fostering equity, addressing systemic barriers, and providing ongoing support to educators, FCPS ensures that inclusion benefits every student and strengthens the entire school community.

• This is a divisionwide commitment.
• The Individualized Educational Program (IEP) Team will continue to play a critical role in determining the needs of students by ensuring that students receive the appropriate special education and related services and that progress is being made on the goals of the IEP.  Special education placements continue to be an IEP team determination.
• FCPS is deeply committed to listening to and learning alongside families. Families are valued partners in this work.
