Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance Course
The Self-Directed Economics and Personal Finance course was updated on March 21, 2025. The new course features include:

- midterm exam
- final exam
Students read through 14 modules and will be required to complete all 140 exit tickets, 14 module tests, a midterm exam, and a final exam. Students are not required to meet face-to-face. Course content and structure are subject to change at the state's discretion.
Course Information
- This course meets the Economics and Personal Finance graduation requirement.
- The course is self-directed.
- Students complete the work during the course time frame (there are no extensions).
- Students access the course through Schoology.
- A schedule for completion is provided.
- Students, parents, and the school will be notified if a student is behind or is not logging in to the course on a regular basis.
- The student must be self-motivated and able to complete the requirements without a teacher to direct and assist with studies.
- This course is only available as pass/fail.
- During the Fall Session, students will receive a no mark "NM" for quarter grades, except for the 3rd quarter.
- 3rd Quarter Grade:Students will receive either a P if they are passing or an F if they are behind in their work.
- The final grade will show as a P or F on the student’s transcript.

Eligibility
Current FCPS Students (Grades 9-12)
- Current FCPS 12th graders are eligible if they are graduating in August of 2026.
- Current FCPS students who will be in grade 9 in 2026-27 are eligible but must discuss the course with their school counselor and parent/guardian before registering.
- Only students who are going to an FCPS school in 2025–26 and will return in 2026–27 can take the course in summer 2026.
- Students who are not enrolled in FCPSare not eligible to take this course.

Fall Details
Students who want to take the Fall Session (8th Period option) must have a full schedule (8 or 9 periods, depending on the school) to register. Counselor approval is required.
