About three million kids in the US are now affected by food allergies, an 18 percent increase over the past 10 years. While there is no consensus about what is driving the increase, one possible factor is the growing tendency among parents and doctors to consider food a trigger of symptoms like vomiting, rashes(発疹), and breathing problems. Whereas a few decades ago, such children were often dismissed as sickly or having a weak stomach, they are now brought to specialists for allergy testing. Additionally, the rate of peanut allergies has recently doubled, and it appears that children are taking longer to outgrow(状態から脱する)milk and egg allergies than they did in the past.
