　At Easter, 1935, Professor D. had
to make a journey, and asked a
priest friend to come and say Holy
Mass in his stead. Afterwards at
breakfast the young priest, whose
name was Father Wasner, said :
“ You really sang quite well this
morning, but... ” and he explained
in a few words several important
things to us, and then and there at
the breakfast table, made us repeat a
motet, conducting it from where he
was sitting. None of us knew then
just how lucky we were :
　This was the birth of the
　 TRAPP FAMILY SINGERS

1935年のイースターで、D教授は旅行に出な
くてはなりませんでした．そこで神父である
友人に頼んで、来てもらってミサ聖祭の言上
を自分の代わりにしてもらうようお願いしま
した．その若神父の名はワスナー神父で、彼
の言うことには、「あなたがた、今朝は実に
よく歌われましたね．でも．．．」そして彼は
手短に我々に大切なことをいくつか説明して
下さいました．そして朝食時など、その時ど
きに、彼は自分の席に座ったまま指揮棒を振
り、モテットを私たちに歌わせるのでした．
そのときまだ私たちの誰ひとりとして、私た
ちがラッキーだなんて知る由もなかったので
す：でもこれが
　　「トラップ・ファミリー・シンガーズ」
の誕生の瞬間だったのです．
