　今朝、弟が「今後読んでおいたほうが良い本を100冊おしえてくれ」と言ってきた。彼もなかなかの読書家だが、さて、100冊と言われると私は当惑する。
　というのは、私の長い読書歴から思うのは、一冊の本はそれ自体で独立していないのだ。その本から派生する問題があり、その問題を自己の問題としてさらに深く理解する為に向かわなければならない本が出てくる。私は世界を知る為の「網」をイメージする。網の目を構成する76億人の結び目の一つとして自分自身を考えながら、新たな本をさがしに行く。しかし未だにいかなる本も、76億の結び目をしっかり結ぶための答を出していないし，読者である私自身の問題を解決することもないし私自身を完結させもしないのである。しかも現代から未来を展望するとき、人類のことだけを考えていれば良いわけでは決してない。現代世界は日毎に拡大している。世界を論じ尽くしている、そんな本は、未だ存在しないのだ。
　しかしながら、一冊の本が世界を掬い獲ってはいなくても、75億人の手を結ぶ思想を模索している本はある（それは本だけに限らない）。そんな本を探し当てるのが私の読書である。
　もちろん75億人の手を結ばせないように画策している本もある。そうしてこの世界を炎と化し、人間を釜茹でにして食うことを楽しんでいる輩もいるのだ。人間とはまったく厄介な存在で、自分が釜茹でされる火の釜焚きに進んで働く者もいる。
　そんな世界を一望の元に披瀝してみせる本は存在しないけれども、その出会いに一縷の望みをかけて私は生きて行けるのかもしれない。読書人生は「無いものねだり」・・・うん、それかもしれない。

　一冊の本で悟ってしまったら、人生はつまらない。
　「悟達（ごだつ）」の人と言われる人がいるけれど、さて、どうだかね。皮肉な見方だと思われるかもしれないが、大方の場合、「悟達」の境地とは「他者」との関わりを断つことのようだ。自己の弱さに自尊心の殻をかぶせてダンゴムシのように世の中の片隅に転がっている。鈴木大拙師が、「億万浄土」に到達したと思ったら億万浄土は元の場所だったと言った。つまり本当の悟りとは、他者の中に戻って来ること。ほんとうの悟達というのは他者と共に生きることなのだ。他者にまみれて、地に這いながら、他者と共に在る苦悩を、希望をもって生きることだ。そこらの寺の坊主にできることではない。
　私は本を読み続けなければなるまい。

　というわけで、この本を読めば良いというような本はない。私はそのように思っている。ヘンリー・ミラーは、「4万冊読んで、初めて自分に必要だった1冊がわかった」と、私の引用は正確ではないが、そんな意味のことを書いていた。私が言いたいことも同じような意味だ。私がその1冊を分かればたいしたものなのだが・・・
　まあしかし、私は弟がいま何に関心を抱いて勉強しているかを知っているので、そのための読書の一助となるかもしれないリストは作ってやれるだろう。私は忙しいので、少し待たせるけれどもね。

It's raining all day today. Until yesterday, the heat
was hot enough to call it a hot summer. The temper-
ature sometimes exceeded 30℃. It has fallen sharply
today and the temperature in my studio is now 21℃.

This moening, my younger brother said, "Tell me
100 books I should read in the future." He is also a
good reader, but I was embarrassed when it is said
to be 100 books.
For my long reading history, a book is not independ-
ent on its own. There is a problem derived from that
book, and there is a book that I have to go to in order
to understand it more deeply as my own ploblem.
I imagine a "net" to know the world. Thinking about
myself as one of the knots of the 7.6 billion people
that make up the mesh, I go looking for a new book.
But still, no book gives the answer to firmly tie the 7.6
billion knots, neither solves my own problem as a
reader nor completes myself. Moreover, when looking
at the future fromt the present age, it is not good to
think only about humanity. The modern world is ex-
panding every day. There is no such book that ex-
hausts the world.
However, some books seek the idea of joining the
hands of 7.5 billion people, even if one book does
not scoop the world (It's not limited to books). My
reading is to find such a book.
Of course, some books are designed to prevent the
hand from reaching 7.5 billion people. And someone
enjoy making this world a flame and boiling and eating
humans. Humans are quite awkward, and some people
are willing to work on the flames of furnace to boil
themselves.
Although there is no book that shows off such a
world with a panoramic view, I may be able to live
by putting a single hope in that encounter.
Reading life is "trying to get something that isn't
there" ... Yeah.

Once you realize the world by the only one book, life
is boring.
Some people are said to be " Godatsu (spiritually
awakened)", but how about it? It may seem ironic in
my opinion, but for the most part, the state of " Satori
(enlightement)" seemes to be a disconnection from
"others." He(she) hangs in the corner of the society like
a pill bug, covering his(her) weakness with his(her) shell
of self-esteem.
Daisetsu Suzuki said that if he(she) thought he(she)
had reached the " Okuman-Jodo (far far far way Pure
Land)," it was original place. In other words, true
enlightement is to come back to others. Real Satori
is to live with others. It is to live in hope with the
suffering that exists with others while crawling on the
ground, covered with others. It is not something that
can be done the temple priests.
I have to continue reading.

So, there is no such book that you should read this
book. I think so. Henry Miller wrote, "I read the 40,000
books and found the one I need for the first time,"
although my quote isn't accurate. What I mean is
similar. It would be great if I knew that one...
Well, however, I know what my brother is interested
in and studying so I can make a list that might help
reading for that. I'm busy, so I can not make the list
immediately.
