　私は石畳にこびりついているその小片を剥がしながら、これはどういうことだろうと思った。そして推測した結果が、冬ざれの山や街に鳥たちの食べる木の実がだんだん少なくなっているのだろう、ということだ。食べ物が豊富なあいだは半分食べただけで残りが落ちるにまかせていたけれど、食べ物が少なくなった今は、冬に備えて食べれる物は残さずに必死に食べているのかもしれない。

　クリスマスが近づいてニューヨークのロックフェラー・センターに大きな樅の木が例年どおり運びこまれた。建築現場さながらの足場が組まれ、目隠しの覆いのなかで飾り付けがおこなわれている。11月26日にクリスマス・ツリーが御披露目されるようだ。
　メイシーズ百貨店も、昨日まで幾つもの巨大ショーウインドゥの飾り付けが「No Peeping (覗かないで）」と大書した覆いの陰でおこなわれていたが、その覆いが取り除かれた。明るく賑やかな装飾の前で通りすがりの人々が写真撮影をしている。路上にはデザインされたソーシャルディスタンスのシールが貼ってある。そのシールの上に立って撮影してくださいという標しである。

　・・・私がこのメイシーズの飾り付けに注目したのは、その店側のメッセージである。「GIVE LOVE BELIEVE」と、装飾されていた。しかもウインドウの一つは、色とりどりのビルが建て込む街を表現し、それらのビルに取り付けられたネオンサインは、多数の言語で標されている。ドイツ語で、日本語で、英語で、チェコ語で、フランス語で、タイ語で・・・。
　COVID-19禍で落ち込んだニューヨークの観光業経済が回復するのは2024年になるだろうという予測がでている。また、バイデン氏が次期大統領に正式に就任することが決まっても、経済分断、人種分断、性差分断等々によって壊れてしまった国民感情の合衆国を、早急に元に戻す事はできないかもしれない、と言われている。

The fruit had fallen when the birds were half ate,
but now they have eaten almost all of them. All that
has fallen to the ground is a few small piece of skin.
While peeling off the small pieces stuck to the
stone pavement, I wondered what this meant. And

winter are less fruits and less nuts for the birds.
When they had a lot of food, they ate only half of it
and left the rest to fall, but now that they have less
food, they may be desperately eating without
leaving anything to eat in preparation for winter.

To return to the subject.

Christmas was approaching, a large fir tree was
brought to the Rockfeller Center in New York as
usual. Scaffolding just like a construction site is
built, and decoration is done inside a blindfold.
It seems that the Christmas tree will be unveiled
on November 26th.
At Macy's Department Store, untill yesterday,
a number of giant show windows were decorated
in the shadow of covers that said "No Peeping",
but the covers were removed. People passing by
are taking pictures in front of the bright and
lively decorations. There are designed social
distance stickers on the street. It is a sign that
you should stand on the sticker and take a
picture.

It was the message of the store that I paid
attention to the decoration of Macy's. It was
decorated as "GIVE LOVE BELIEVE". Moreover,
one of the windows represents the city bilt by
colorful buildings, and the neon signs attached
to those buildings are marked in many languages.
In German, Japanese, English, Czech, French,
Thai ...
It is predicted that the Tourism economy of New
York, which was depressed by COVID-19 disaster,
will recover in 2024. Also, even if Mr. Biden is offi-
cially appointed president-elect, it may not be
possible to quickly restore the United States of
national sentiment, which has been destroyed by
economic division, racial division, gender division,
etc., is said.
There can't be any natives or foreigners in the
Christmas sales season, but when I guess it
together with the message "Give Love BELIEVE"
from Macy's department store, I think it's a clear
wish and call for the elimination of the division,
I thought it was a nice decoration. One of the
decorations in the windows was the slogan
"BELIEVE IN EQUALITY".
