Despite its bright f/1.2 aperture, the lens comes with a shocking price tag of around ¥60,000. With a design that follows in the footsteps of the once-legendary EF 50mm f/1.2, it has certainly stirred up a lot of buzz. That said, it’s also said to be a quirky lens with plenty of drawbacks, such as purple fringing and vignetting when shot wide open, and opinions among users seem to be sharply divided. For someone like me, however—a perpetual beginner who shoots JPEGs straight out of the camera and mainly uses photos for blogging—it’s nothing but welcome. For the time being, I plan to keep it permanently mounted on my EOS R8 and head out shooting with this lens alone.
