Although it bears the name Château, this is, needless to say, not a Bordeaux but a wine from southern France, Minervois. It came in a lucky bag from Ukiki, and I have already had several bottles. This time, I opened one that had rested for almost a year after arrival. The color is a fairly deep ruby with a hint of orange at the rim. The nose is restrained, showing black cherry, plum, fig, and spices. On the palate, the fruit is slightly jammy rather than notably concentrated, with good balance between a gently tropical, zesty acidity and well-ripened tannins. Judging by these elements, it is certainly not a bad wine. That said, it lacks the appeal that would make me want to buy it again. Perhaps southern French varieties are simply not to my taste.
