岡山後楽園

日本三名園のひとつ、後楽園には年初に訪れたのだが、冬場とあって一面茶枯葉色の景色だった。今回は一泊出張でスケジュールがタイトなな中、夕刻小一時間ほど時間ができたので再訪してみたが、それだけの価値はあった。紅葉にはまだ早かったが、「唯心山」からの眺望はすばらしかったし、バックに映る岡山城の背景も見事だった。岡山には今年４回行ったが、街は綺麗だし、店やインフラは充実しているし、観光名所もいろいろあって、すっかりお気に入りになった。メジャーな観光スポットほどオーバーツーリズム気味でないのにも好感が持てた。難を言えば、陸路だとやや遠く、新幹線で行くべきか飛行機で行くべきか、非常に微妙なところですかね。夜は仕事仲間と、駅の傍の居酒屋、壱厘酒蔵 （いちりんしゅぞう）へ。海の幸が充実していて、値段も手頃。食べログの点数が高いこともあってか、平日なのに店内は満員だった。I visited Kōraku-en, one of Japan’s three most celebrated gardens, earlier this year, but since it was winter, the entire landscape was tinged with the dull brown of withered grass. This time, though my overnight business trip left me with a tight schedule, I managed to find an hour or so free in the late afternoon and decided to revisit the garden—and it was well worth it. It was still a little early for the autumn foliage, but the view from Yuishinzan Hill was magnificent, and the backdrop of Okayama Castle was simply stunning.This was my fourth trip to Okayama this year, and I’ve really grown fond of the city. It’s clean and well-organized, with plenty of good shops and infrastructure, and there’s no shortage of sightseeing spots. I also like the fact that, unlike major tourist destinations, it hasn’t yet fallen victim to overtourism. If I had to name one drawback, it would be the access—by land, it’s a bit far, and it’s always a toss-up between taking the Shinkansen or flying there.In the evening, I went out for drinks with some colleagues at an zakaya near the station（Ichirin-Syuzou）. The place offered a great selection of seafood at reasonable prices, and perhaps because it’s highly rated on Tabelog, it was packed even on a weekday night.

「渋谷を駄目にした 鉄道会社どもーー再開発は１００年に１度の「大失敗」」　“The Railway Companies That Ruined Shibuya — A Once-in-a-Century Redevelopment Disaster.”

…という有料記事を見つけた。渋谷再開発が行き詰まっている。渋谷スクランブルスクエア、渋谷ストリームをはじめ高層ビルが続々建ち上がり、渋谷の弱点である高低差を解消する歩行者デッキも建設中だが、テナントを埋めるのに苦労する商業施設、客の入らない店が少なくない。高層化で建物容積が大膨張したほどには渋谷への需要がなく、雑然とした都市の魅力が消えたこともある。「街づくり」といいながら局所的不動産バブルを狙った東急グループ、ＪＲ東日本、東京メトロなど「鉄道屋」の限界が残酷なほど渋谷に映し出されている。「渋谷には空がない」。高村光太郎の詩集『智恵子抄』ではないが、最近、渋谷駅周辺で見上げる空は極端に狭くなった。日本有数の繁華街の土地から最大限の賃貸料を稼ごうという東急、ＪＲ東日本などの邪心が高層ビルで空を塞いだからだ。罪滅ぼしに山手線などを跨ぎ、高層ビル間をつなぐ歩行者用自由通路を建設する予定だ。　だが、地面に足をつけて人々が行き交う街路と空中の歩行者デッキは似て非なるものだ。街路は昔ながらの土地に根付いた店が…ここから先は有料になるが、私はたまたまSmartNewsの無料枠の残りで読むことができた。ざっくりと要約すると、おおむね以下のようなことだ。各鉄道会社が部分最適で資産の最大限の活用と賃貸収入の最大化を目指した結果、供給過剰を起こし、後発のビルや立地のやや不便なところは空きテナントが目立つ。景観的には、ニョキニョキと高層テナントビルばかりが立ち並び、高層ビル同士を空中回廊でつなげようとしているが、同様の香港などのように味わいのある街並みが地上に残っているわけでもなく、渋谷の街としての味わいが希薄になってきている。大阪がグラングリーン大阪で実現したような、来訪者が長く留まりたいと思わせるような緑地空間もない。渋谷と同様の再開発がさかんな新宿も似たようなことになるのではないか。まあたしかに、私も最近できた「アクシュ」の空きテナントの目立つ内部やサクラステージの閑散とした様子を見て、テナントの供給過剰感は感じるところだ。そもそも、いろいろな名前のビルが乱立しているが、どこがどこなのかきちんと把握していないし、またそれぞれの商業施設にどんな特徴があるのかもわかりずらい。ちなみにこの図は、SakuraStageのサイトから拝借した。たしかにこのところ商業ビルばかりが乱立しているイメージは強いが、個々に見れば、渋谷SKYとか、MIYASHITA PARKとか、買い物以外にも魅力的なところはあるし、渋谷川のせせらぎを再現した渋谷ストリームの周辺などはよい感じに再開発が進んだと思うのだが。もう少し各商業施設が連携して、渋谷の街としての魅力を発信したほうがよいのではないかと思う。I came across this article.Shibuya’s redevelopment appears to be stalling. The area around Shibuya Stream also turned out rather nicely, with the redevelopment reproducing the murmuring of the Shibuya River. Still, I think the various commercial complexes would do well to coordinate more closely in order to better communicate Shibuya’s overall appeal as a cohesive city.

モーリス・ユトリロ展@SOMPO美術館～その２

色彩の時代は近年、再評価される風潮もあるのだとか。これだけまとめて見る機会はなかなかないので、興味深かった。青々とした空は色彩の時代の特徴のひとつ。微妙に歪められた構図など、往年のユトリロらしさも感じられるのだが‥軽めのサラッとした筆致はまだしも、この人物の雑さがなぁと思ってしまう。美術館の解説では、「記号化されている」人物もまた色彩の時代の作風のひとつなのだとか。SOMPO美術館といえば、ゴッホのひまわりも外すわけにはいかない。それにしてもものものしい展示。解放感のあるグッズ売り場。例によってクリアファイルとマグネットを購入して…珈琲を飲んで帰ってきました。ちなみにここ（グッズ売り場のフロア）のコーヒーはなかなかおいしかったですよ。まだもうしばらく開催しています。

モーリス・ユトリロ展@SOMPO美術館～その１　Maurice Utrillo Exhibition at the SOMPO Museum — Part 1

新宿のSOMPO美術館で開催中のモーリス・ユトリロ展を見に行ってきた。ユトリロは日本でも結構人気がある画家だが、その活動時期によって画風がかなり異なり、特に後半の時期は評価も分かれるところかと思う。これだけの数のユトリロの作品をまとめてみることができたのは、大変良い経験になった。ユトリロと言えば、「西山美術館」に多く展示されているとのこと。なかなか行かないエリアだが、機会があれば一度行ってみたいものである。I visited the Maurice Utrillo exhibition currently being held at the SOMPO Museum in Shinjuku.Although Utrillo is quite popular in Japan, his style varies considerably depending on the period, and opinions tend to differ especially regarding his later works.It was a wonderful opportunity to see so many of his pieces gathered in one place.Speaking of Utrillo, I’ve heard that the Nishiyama Museum houses a large collection of his works.It’s not an area I usually go to, but I hope to visit someday if I have the chance.上記２枚は同じ画題で、異なる時期に書かれたもの。ずいぶん違うものですね。
