Stewartstown, NH
Stewartstown is located on US Route 3, located where New Hampshire, Vermont and Quebec meet, along the Connecticut River.
It gets its name from John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute. A Scotsman, Stuart was Prime Minister of Great Britain for one year. The Stuart became Stewart over the years. The major business area is the village of West Stewartstown.
The Spa Restaurant at 869 Washington Street in West Stewartstown gets rave reviews for its seafood and prime rib. They serve, breakfast, lunch and dinner, and offer seating in either a diner area or a more formal dining room. The town has also has two nice pubs for late evening outings.
The Sportsman's Lodge and Cabins on Big Diamond Pond offers a lodge, free-standing cabins and can accommodate large events such as weddings and class reunion, and offer catering services. The dining room is open to the public for breakfast and lunch, with optional outside seating available.
Additional dining and lodging are available south in nearby Colebrook (ten miles) or a little further north in Pittsburg (12 miles). Also, just cross the bridge into Canaan, Vermont, there are a variety of choices available. Consignment, convenience stores and groceries comprise the bulk of retail though: Colebrook is a much better choice for shopping.
