The Moffett House, address of the Berlin and Coös County Historical Society, has been a much-loved destination
of both Berliners and visitors, dating back to its opening in 1997. The only historical society and museum to be
open all year in Coös County, this 14 room Victorian was home and contained the professional offices of the late
Dr. Irving Moffett and his wife, Mrs. Mary Moffett from 1949 to 1993.
The museum, located at 119 High Street in one of Berlin's historic neighborhoods, recalls Berlin's yesterdays. It offers a vast keepsake from Berlin's past, including photographs, manuscripts, advertisements, china, and artifacts; as well as athletic, Boy Scout and military memorabilia. The Moffett House also houses an exceptional collection of Brown Company articles -- covering all aspects of its industrial and lumbering history.
Did you ever wonder what it was like to be treated by a doctor in the 1940s? Dr. Moffett's renovated physician's offices give visitors a time capsule view of an osteopath's office in the post-World War II era.
For family history buffs, The Moffett House's Genealogy Center contains the largest library of archives north of Manchester. For bookworms, we have a large selection of autographed books by Berlin area authors, postcards depicting vintage scenes as well as the highly acclaimed documentary film, "At the River's Edge."
Visit the Moffett House to research your family tree, and ask a friendly volunteer to assist you in tracing your roots!
