14YO Seriously Injured

 He failed to negotiate a turn with a dirt bike.

Claremont, NH - On June 8th, 2017, at approximately 2:57 pm, a 14 year old male operator was involved in a single operator trail bike collision. The collision occurred on private property near the end of Alden Road in the town of Claremont. The juvenile operator was attempting to access a piece private property at the end of Alden Road, when suddenly he failed to negotiate a turn, lost control and was subsequently ejected from the dirt bike.

As a result of the collision, the operator suffered serious injuries and was initially transported by Golden Cross Ambulance to Valley Regional Healthcare in Claremont. Due to the extent of the operator's injuries, he was ultimately transported to Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, NH.

An Officer from the Claremont Police Department and a Conservation Officer with the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department investigated the incident at the scene and determined that the operator did have permission to ride in the area, but was not wearing a helmet. Based on evidence at the scene and witness statements, it is likely that unreasonable speed may have been a factor in the collision. While the incident remains under investigation, alcohol is not believed to have been involved.

According to Conservation Officer Robert Mancini, "the operator did sustain serious injuries as a result of the collision, but he is extremely lucky as this incident could have easily resulted in a fatality." As the weather continues to improve, OHRV enthusiasts are reminded to wear proper safety equipment when operating any OHRV on any trail or property. Helmets and eye protection are required by law for any operator under the age of 18 and are highly recommended for all riders and passengers regardless of age.
