Weekend Snowmobile Crashes Injure Two

Officers respond to three incidents over the weekend.

One Injured in Snowmobile Crash

Clarksville, NH - Fish and Game Conservation Officers were alerted to a single vehicle snowmachine crash in the town of Clarksville at approximately 12:00 P.M Friday afternoon. The report indicated that a snowmobile had gone off the trail resulting in unknown injuries to the operator.

The investigation revealed that the incident occurred when the operator of the snowmobile identified as Andrea Palladino, 50, of Yonkers, NY was traveling South on the Corridor 134 when she failed to negotiate a sharp left hand turn and ended up maneuvering around trees before rolling the snowmobile over into the deep snow. Palladino was ejected from the snowmobile prior to the machine rolling over.

Assistance was rendered by two other snowmobilers who happened upon the scene of the crash. Due to the lack of cell phone coverage, Palladino was assisted onto the back of another snowmobile and relayed to the Swift Diamond Rider's warming hut approximately 12 miles away. From there she was transported to Upper-Connecticut Valley Hospital (UCVH) in Colebrook by 45th Parallel EMS where she was evaluated and treated for a minor injury.

Operators Escape Injury in Snowmobile Collision

Pittsburg, NH - Two men were lucky to escape injuries after their snowmobiles collided on Trail 20 in the area of Murphy Dam in Pittsburg on Sunday morning.

Just after 10 AM, Conservation Officer Chris Egan came upon the collision while patrolling trails on his snowmobile. "The crash had occurred just seconds prior to my arrival on the scene", Egan stated. "I came through the Murphy Dam junction and observed two stationary sleds connected together and a man lying in the trail".

After radioing for emergency personnel to respond, Egan identified the operators, neither of which appeared to be suffering from serious injuries. Personnel from Pittsburg Fire Department, Pittsburg Police Department and 45th Parallel EMS responded to the scene.

Investigation determined that a snowmobile operated by David Lawton, 52, of West Stewartstown, had rear-ended a snowmobile operated by Patrick Bennett, 53, of North Stratford. The impact ejected Bennett from his machine.

The two men had been riding in the same group, along with several other local friends at the time of the crash, and both refused medical treatment. Both of the involved snowmobiles sustained moderate damage.

Lawton was cited for operating at a speed greater than reasonable and prudent for the existing conditions, with a collision resulting.

Alcohol impairment was not a factor in the crash.

Man Injured in Monroe Snowmachine Accident

Monroe, NH - On Sunday, February 11, 2018 at about 8:00 PM, Matthew A. Cole of Littleton, New Hampshire was operating a snowmachine on a groomed trail in the town of Monroe. He lost control of the snowmachine and was thrown from it, suffering injuries to his lower leg and back. He was treated at the scene by the Monroe Fast Squad and was transported to Cottage Hospital by the Woodsville Ambulance. The accident is currently under investigation by the New Hampshire State Police and the New Hampshire Fish and Game Department, but it appears that alcohol is a contributing factor.
