Waterville Valley Upgrades Snowmaking & Grooming Systems
Waterville Valley, NH
- Waterville Valley Resort has purchased a Prinoth BR350 Snow Groomer and acquired 10 HKD SV10 snow guns and 3 Demaclenko fully automated fan guns (2 Titans and 1 Ventus) in preparation for the 2015/16 winter season. The HKD SV10 snow guns are highly energy efficient and have been brought in as part of a partnership with New Hampshire Electric Cooperative. These upgrades to snow surface equipment come just one year after making a $250,000 investment in snow guns in 2014.
"As a ski bum with a mountain operations background, improving our surface conditions is always a priority for me," said General Manager Tim Smith. "The snow guns we purchased last year gave us a lot of flexibility in our coverage. These additions make our snow making system very diverse, which increases our ability to make snow efficiently in all types of weather. In the past, there has been such a small window of ideal conditions in which we can effectively make snow and these new guns expand that range. Along with the new groomer, these tools will also allow us to maintain and make our surfaces really versatile. From the expansion of our Terrain Focused Learning program to the FunRun to pop up terrain parks, skiers and riders of all skill levels will be able to see the difference."
The mountain operations team has also thinned out the Sugar Shack glades located next to Valley Run where the parks crew will install natural terrain park features. The run next to Exhibition has been renamed Higher Ground after the Warren Miller film of the same name and will feature a banked slalom course. The rental shop also made a purchase to add to their fleet including a large number of new snowboards and bindings from Burton.
