Pinkham Notch, NH
Pinkham Notch is a mountain pass between the Presidential Range and Wildcat Range of mountains. Also, when people mention Pinkham Notch, they are often discussing the portion of NH Route 16 passing through the notch located approximately 2.5 miles east of the summit of Mt. Washington at its closest point. Being halfway between Jackson
(south) and Gorham
(north), the pass is popular for its scenic views, trail heads and is northern NH's most eastern tourism corridor.
The Notch is home of the popular Tuckerman Ravine , and also popular with Alpine and Nordic skiers. It's also highly favored during fall foliage season, commonly occurring about mid to late September in NH's mountain areas.
The area has few services: located within the White Mountain National Forest , Appalachian Mountain Club operates the Pinkham Notch Visitor Center , Wildcat Mountain hosts a ski area by the same name, Great Glen Trails offers numerous recreational opportunities and is home to the Mount Washington Auto Road . Joe Dodge Lodge , operated by the Appalachian Mountain Club , offers accommodations and meals.
You'll need to travel 10 miles north or south to find fuel or a convenience store.
