Randolph, population around 300, is a mountainous town on the northern edge of the presidential range of the White Mountains, along Route 2. Portions of the town lay within Ice Gulch
, a deep ravine with a
massive accumulation of large boulders. Today, in many ways, the town is "hiker central" - partly because of the Randolph Mountain Club
, which maintains of collection of 70 hiking trails (102 miles, 4 shelters) in the area. This group holds civic and social events, and also organizes volunteers for trail maintenance.
