- Simon and Garfunkel stand as among the most iconic popular performing duos of all time. Their memorable music will be celebrated when the Great North Woods Committee for the Arts brings to Lancaster the British duo Bookends, the leading tribute performers celebrating the songbook of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel. The show will be co-sponsored by the Fife Family."When we brought Bookends to our area last year, they amazed the audience with their faithful re-creation of the S&G songs which were so much a part of the 1960s," said Great North Woods Committee for the Arts President Charlie Jordan. "Their appearance at the Colebrook Country Club in 2017 was this duo's very first performance in the United States and it turned out to be one of our most popular concerts of the year."This year the GNWCA will be presenting Bookends at the Rialto Theatre in downtown Lancaster. The Rialto concert is set for 7 p.m., Tuesday, April 24. "As an added attraction, we will be using the Rialto's movie screen during the live concert to project images of Paul Simon and Art Garfunkel and their times as their music is sung live by Bookends. The effect will be stunning," said Jordan. The show, titled, "Simon and Garfunkel: Through the Years" Live in Concert, is authorized by Simon and Garfunkel to help bring their music to the public that grew up with such songs as "Mrs. Robinson," "Scarborough Fair," "Homeward Bound," "The Boxer"-and so many more.Simply put, Bookends perform the most authentic sounding tribute to the unforgettable music of Simon and Garfunkel. The duo is comprised of Dan Haynes and Pete Richards. Based in England, Bookends have toured extensively with their concerts being described as "simply breathtaking." Performing the songs in a truly captivating way, their delicate recreation of the unmistakable sound of the American folk-rock duo is something of a masterpiece and has taken Bookends to prestigious venues."One of the greatest tribute shows anywhere in the world," enthused Stuart Cameron, BBC and ITV Broadcaster. All the hits, from "The Sound of Silence" to the unforgettable "Bridge Over Troubled Water," are performed as Haynes and Richards share fascinating information about Paul and Art.
