Right off I-93 between Lincoln
to the North and Campton
to the South, Waterville Valley is the
"granddaddy" of resort towns in the White Mountain National Forest. Incorporated in 1829 as Waterville, the name was
changed in 1967 to Waterville Valley. The community exists predominately as the home of the resort
by the same name but is also home to the Curious George Cottage & The Margret & H.A. Rey Center
and the Waterville Valley Academy
, a five-month snowsports academy.
The town is incredibly unique. Its 250+ residents are dwarfed by the resort's population of as many as 6,000 people on weekends. The town's 6 full time police officers are also cross trained and certified as firefighters and EMTs. Their recreation department owns and maintains a complete ice arena.
The Waterville Valley resort offers lodging and dining and you can also venture beyond the resort to nearby Thornton and Woodstock , both about 15 miles away.
