Honda will invest 3.3bn reais ($600m) in its Brazilian motorcycle operations between 2026 and 2030.

The funding is in addition to the 1.6bn reais investment announced by Honda last year.

It will finance two new plants at the Manaus manufacturing complex, each comprising an assembly line and supporting manufacturing processes.

Honda currently runs four assembly lines across two production plants at the site.

According to the company, the expansion is expected to create 2,000 jobs and lift installed annual output capacity to 2.3 million units by 2029.

The company started manufacturing motorcycles in Brazil in 1976 as part of its strategy to produce in markets where demand exists.

Over five decades, the Manaus plant has built more than 33 million motorcycles and now produces about 7,200 units a day.

Manaus manufactures 20 motorcycle models with engine capacities from 110cc to 1,100cc.

The facility serves Brazil and exports motorcycles to 19 countries, including the US, Australia, and Mexico.

Honda employs 9,200 people directly at the Manaus operation and operates a Development and Technology Centre for product, process, and manufacturing engineering.

It also has more than 1,200 dealerships in Brazil and works with more than 120 direct suppliers.

Honda Motor president, CEO and representative director Toshihiro Mibe said: "The Manaus factory is one of the core facilities within Honda's global motorcycle operations, distinguished by its high levels of productivity, quality, and manufacturing efficiency.

"Honda will continue investing in Brazil's future, contributing to mobility and economic development in local communities."

Late last month, Honda Motor and Mitsubishi Motors signed a MoU covering development of a Triton-based pickup for the ASEAN market, with sales planned for 2028.

Honda will introduce a one-tonne pickup using the Mitsubishi Triton's ladder-frame architecture.
