Investing.com-- U.S. President Donald Trump said on Friday that Canadian business jet maker Bombardier (TSX:BBDb) would invest $270 million in the United States, creating thousands of jobs in Kansas, Texas and Indiana.
Trump had threatened in September to block Bombardier aircraft sales in the U.S. amid trade tensions with Canada, but later said he would support the company because of its American workforce.
In a post on Truth Social, Trump credited Republican Senator Roger Marshall of Kansas and Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton with helping secure the deal, presenting it as part of his administration's efforts to bring manufacturing and employment back to the United States.
Bombardier already has a substantial U.S. presence, employing about 3,500 people nationwide, including 1,500 in Wichita, Kansas, where it houses its U.S. headquarters and defense operations.
The Montreal-based company announced a separate investment of about $50 million in Wichita in October, covering a new training centre for aircraft technicians, expanded repair capabilities and other infrastructure improvements.
It also plans to open a service centre in Fort Wayne, Indiana, and manufactures wings for its Global 7500 business jet in Red Oak, Texas.
The latest announcement did not specify the investment's timeline or how the funds would be allocated.
