Alvopetro Energy Ltd (TSX-V:ALV, OTC:ALVOF, FRA:A6Y0) is winning backing from three brokerages for its new Tucano Basin acreage in Brazil, with analysts citing the small upfront commitment and the company's operating track record in Bahia.

Hannam & Partners called the entry a low-cost option on a third growth platform, saying Alvopetro's subsurface, operating and gas marketing know-how should transfer directly from the neighbouring Recôncavo Basin.

The firm noted the blocks were secured for a signing bonus of less than US$1 per acre and that the US$35 million of cash at the end of the second quarter comfortably covers the commitments alongside drilling in Brazil and Canada.

Hannam also highlighted the basin's existing infrastructure and a buyer already in place through Bahiagás, Alvopetro's current customer.

With a second-quarter realised gas price of about US$11 per thousand cubic feet and an 86% netback margin, the firm believes even modest production rates could be meaningful.

Beacon Securities described the work commitment of US$1.7 million as a very low obligation for the chance to add another growth area, one that may eventually resemble the greenfield Murucututu project. The firm expects near-term activity to dovetail with Murucututu work, likely focusing on reprocessing existing 2D seismic and evaluating a well on Subauma Mirim that previously tested gas.

If a gas project emerges, Beacon sees a tie-in to the national pipeline grid about 40 to 50 kilometres away, serving a market where Brazil is a net importer. "Investors have been watching for ALV to expand its footprint in Brazil and adding exploration acreage addresses at least some of that," Beacon said.

Research Capital took a similarly positive view, calling the acquisition a sizeable new exploration position at a relatively modest initial cost. The firm said the deal, together with the recent Saskatchewan farm-in, offers additional organic growth in both Brazil and Canada, and it looks forward to more detail on prospectivity, resource potential and the planned work program.

Hannam left its risked net asset value unchanged at C$13.5 per share. It excludes any Tucano value while the blocks remain at the exploration stage and work commitments are still to be defined, though it said even incremental production would provide meaningful upside.

Research Capital continues to see Murucututu as Alvopetro's principal near-term growth driver, with the 183-H2 well due onstream later this month and the firm pointing to the company's strong balance sheet, established production base and operating cash flow as support for its dividend.
