Canadian oil explorer Logan Energy weighs sale options, Bloomberg reports

Investing.com -- Canadian oil and gas explorer Logan Energy Corp (TSXV:LGN) is exploring strategic options including a potential sale, according to a report from Bloomberg News. The Calgary-based producer is currently working with financial advisers to solicit interest from prospective buyers, though no final decision has been reached and the company may ultimately choose to remain independent.

The potential transaction comes as Canadian energy dealmaking sees renewed momentum, supported by shifting political dynamics in Ottawa. Prime Minister Mark Carney's stated goal to make Canada an energy superpower through expedited project permitting has fueled industry optimism, marking a sharp policy departure from the previous administration.

Against that backdrop, Canada's shale plays are attracting heightened buyer interest relative to more mature North American basins. Resource regions across Alberta and British Columbia offer less developed acreage than established U.S. fields such as the Permian Basin, presenting prospective buyers with broader organic growth trajectories.

Logan itself was established in 2023 following a spinout of early-stage Montney assets from Spartan Delta Corp. That origin provided the company with a targeted footprint in one of Western Canada's most competitive light oil and liquids-rich natural gas formations.

Investors have rewarded that positioning, driving Logan's stock up 63% over the past year. Prior to the report, the shares closed down 1.5% at C$1.30 in Toronto, giving the producer a market valuation of approximately C$899 million ($642 million).
