What PTT Doubters Missed

PTT spent much of the past year talking about LNG expansion, renewable projects and a share buyback plan, while analysts argued over whether those moves justified higher or lower value. Holding PTT over the past year would have returned 46.9%, including dividends. If you had been deciding on 29 October 2025 whether to buy, what would you have needed to believe about those plans, before any later earnings surprise arrived?

PTT has already moved. See which of 191 high quality undervalued stocks still trade below our estimates.

The Two PTT Stories Investors Had To Weigh

The shares cost THB30.75 at the start of the period, so anyone looking at PTT first had to decide which future felt more realistic.

The optimistic story leaned on a Fair Value of THB34.27, a rough guide to what that view thought the stock was worth, assuming LNG expansion, renewables investment and a future P/E of 12.2x could support a 3.7% profit margin over three years.

The cautious narrative pointed to a Fair Value of THB26, built on the risk that slow progress on clean energy and global oil overcapacity would keep pressure on PTT's hydrocarbon focused model.

What The PTT Results Actually Tested

PTT later reported Q2 2026 revenue of THB830,389.3m and net income of THB52,524.6m, against Q2 2025 revenue of THB676,754.2m and profit of THB21,425.7m. Net margin moved from 3.2% to 6.3%. That combination supported the optimistic case that LNG, renewables and efficiency could lift profitability, although it did not confirm that such margins are durable over several years.

The key lesson is to link any profitability story to the net margin line. When you see a thesis built on better returns from new projects, test it against how margin trends in later reports, not just revenue or headline earnings.

What PTT's 47% Run Now Asks You To Believe

PTT trades at THB42.25 today, up 46.9% over the past year. The selected Narrative's Fair Value sits below that level, implying its authors see the recent price reflecting generous assumptions about how the business will handle energy transition pressures and capital intensive low carbon projects.

The Narrative's core question is earnings quality. For today's price to make sense, you would need to judge that LNG, CCS and hydrogen projects become commercially solid enough to offset any strain from weaker refining and petrochemical economics.

"The current valuation implies the share price already reflects resilient profits around recent levels and meaningful payoff from LNG growth, decarbonization projects and digital profit enhancement, which suggests there may be limited room for disappointment if these plans underdeliver."

PTT And Where LNG Leads Next

PTT makes the LNG story feel very immediate. Once you notice that, it is hard not to look sideways.

Global gas buyers do not only need cargoes. They also need someone prepared to build and run large export projects for years.

One large energy group is leaning heavily into that role, expanding LNG capacity and reshaping its mix toward higher margin barrels and trading.

It is shedding weaker assets, trimming costs and funnelling more capital into projects tied to the same demand.

The puzzle is how that shift might change where LNG related cash flows eventually concentrate, and who ultimately captures more of that value.
