SAMSUNG SDI has agreed to supply 1GWh of energy storage system (ESS) solutions to Alpha Omega Power (AOP), with energy storage systems manufactured using cells and modules from Indiana, US.
The deal follows an initial supply contract between the companies signed late last year, bringing their combined contracted volume to 1.5GWh.
SAMSUNG SDI America (SDIA), the company's Michigan-based subsidiary, will oversee the deal.
Construction on the projects is scheduled to begin in 2027 in the Western Electricity Coordinating Council (WECC) and Electric Reliability Council of Texas (ERCOT) power markets.
These projects are set to support grid reliability and address increasing power demand.
AOP CEO Paul Choi said: "American-made ESS from SAMSUNG SDI will play an important role in AOP's continued growth.
"This second agreement strengthens our domestic supply chain supporting the next generation of energy infrastructure."
Under the latest agreement, SAMSUNG SDI will provide its Samsung Battery Box (SBB) 1.7 product, utilising nickel cobalt aluminium (NCA) prismatic cell technology.
All cells and modules are set to be produced at the StarPlus Energy facility in Kokomo, Indiana.
Deliveries are scheduled for completion by the end of 2026.
The SBB 1.7 offers a 17% increase in energy density over its SBB 1.5 predecessor while retaining the same footprint.
According to SAMSUNG SDI, the system incorporates AI-based monitoring for fault detection and battery life management and is intended for continuous operation over 25 years.
SDIA ESS team president Fabrice Hudry said: "Alpha Omega Power is one of the fastest-growing independent power producers in the country, and the kind of sophisticated operator we want to partner with to tackle grid reliability challenges.
"With our differentiated technology and local production capabilities, we will continue to expand our business foundation and strengthen our position in the North American ESS market."
SAMSUNG SDI has announced several ESS supply contracts in the US market this year and reports that discussions with additional local customers are ongoing.
The firm's prismatic battery technology, PrismStack, is cited by industry analysts for its performance and safety.
SAMSUNG SDI is currently the sole non-Chinese supplier of prismatic ESS batteries in North America.
In February this year, SAMSUNG SDI and Korea East-West Power signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to collaborate on global ESS and renewable energy projects.
"SAMSUNG SDI to supply 1GWh of US-made ESS to Alpha Omega Power" was originally created and published by Power Technology , a GlobalData owned brand.
