The Japanese drugmaker reported core revenue of ¥1.068 trillion for January-September, up 17.2% year on year, while core operating profit increased 19% to ¥536.1 billion. Core net income rose 20.2% to ¥384.7 billion.

Overseas sales increased 11% to ¥500.5 billion, while domestic sales climbed 18.2% to ¥406.3 billion. Other revenue rose 37.7% to ¥161.3 billion, supported by royalty income from Hemlibra and NEMLUVIO, as well as one-time income.

Chugai attributed sales growth partly to increased exports of NEMLUVIO and Alecensa, alongside higher sales of established medicines and new products in Japan. Domestic sales also benefited from shipments brought forward ahead of a transition to a next-generation enterprise resource planning system.

The company said research and development activities continued to progress across its pipeline. Enspryng, developed using Chugai's proprietary antibody-engineering technology, received approval from the U.S. Food and Drug Administration for thyroid eye disease.

Chugai also expects to launch an autoinjector formulation of Hemlibra in Japan and overseas in 2027, aiming to further reduce the treatment burden for patients with haemophilia A.

In clinical development, Phase III studies of Lunsumio for relapsed or refractory follicular lymphoma and sefaxersen for IgA nephropathy both met their primary endpoints at interim analysis, the company said.

Separately, Roche plans to return the licence for emugrobart to Chugai, which has begun preparations to resume development of a treatment for spinal muscular atrophy, including the possibility of licensing the programme to a third party.

Chugai said its financial performance had improved year on year and that full-year results were expected to exceed its forecast.
