Moderna ( NASDAQ:MRNA ) shares jumped more than 15% in premarket trading Friday after the biotechnology company returned to quarterly profitability and raised its full-year revenue outlook, supported by overseas COVID-19 vaccine demand and collaboration revenue.
The company reported third-quarter revenue of $1.3 billion, up 29% from a year earlier and above analyst expectations of $885.1 million. Net income reached $162 million, compared with a loss of approximately $200 million in the same period last year. Diluted earnings came in at 38 cents per share.
Moderna now expects 2026 revenue to increase 15% to 25%, compared with its previous forecast of growth of up to 10%. The company also lifted its projected year-end cash balance to $8.1 billion to $8.3 billion while reducing its operating expense forecast by approximately $200 million.
International markets are expected to contribute about half of annual sales. Meanwhile, Moderna is preparing a limited U.S. rollout of its mFLUSIVA flu vaccine for the 2026-27 season. Its personalized melanoma vaccine developed with Merck (MRK) could also reach the market in 2027.
