Common stock paid for the coins
Every bitcoin in the latest batch was paid for with proceeds from Strategy's Class A common stock. Through its at-the-market program, the company sold 1,178,552 MSTR sharesfor $164.0 million after commissions. Of that, $65.5 million went to bitcoin and $98.5 million was added to USD Cash. Strategy issued no shares of its four preferred stocks, STRF, STRC, STRK and STRD, during the week.
Over the same seven days, Strategy spent $208.2 millionrepurchasing 2,092,035 STRC shares, drawing on USD Cash. That leaves $748.6 million of room in its preferred buyback program, whose cap the board lifted to $3 billion last month.
Buybacks outpace bitcoin
Across the last two weekly filings, Strategy has put $413.1 millioninto STRC repurchases since Oct. 19, by Unchained's count, more than six times the $65.5 million it spent on bitcoin over that stretch. For the week that ended Oct. 25, it reported no bitcoin purchases and $204.9 million of STRC buybacks.
USD Cash ended the week at $132.7 million, down from $242.4 million a week earlier. The USD Reserve, which Strategy holds to cover preferred dividends and interest on its debt, was $4.79 billion after $43.4 million went to dividend payments. Saylor put the company's USD assets at $4.9 billion.
Strategy paused STRC sales in June after the preferred fell below its intended $100 level.
Saylor said in a follow-up post that STRC's "BTC Credit tightened to 59 bps" under assumptions that included a bitcoin price of $76,700, below the $80,846 average Strategy paid this week.
