The crypto market is flat on Thursday, September 3, trading near $2.58 trillion after recovering an early 0.5% drop.
It is barely holding $2.57 trillion, the level that has floored every dip since August 22.
1. Money Went to Stocks Before the Weekend
Wall Street took the bid first. The S&P 500 closed Wednesday at 7,666.60, up 0.46%, so the cash that might have chased crypto into the weekend went to equities instead.
Timing makes it worse. Crypto heads into a weekend now, when volumes thin and fewer buyers defend a level. Flat trading before that is not strength, it is an absence of buyers.

2. Institutional Buying Has Almost Stopped
The bigger signal is in fund flows. US spot Bitcoin ETFs took $1.92 billion in the week to August 21, then $924.48 million to August 28, then just $81.39 million in the week to September 2, per SoSoValue data.
That is a 96% collapse in 14 days. Flows stay positive, so institutions have not turned sellers, but they have stopped arriving in the size that carried August's rally. Without that bid, $2.57 trillion holds on retail alone.

What Breaks:A daily close below $2.57 trillion opens $2.49 trillion, then $2.42 trillion
Coin Spotlight: Ethena (ENA)
Ethena (ENA) shows what happens when the bid fades. It is down over 5% today and up 65% over 30 days,. However, it is sitting exactly at the line that decides its next leg.
The ENA chart resembles a head and shoulders along a rising trend line, a shape that usually ends advances. The neckline sits at the $0.1502-$0.1567 zone, and ENA is not defending, at press time. A daily close below $0.1502 (the last hope) completes the pattern and projects a 26% fall toward $0.1111.
Volume agrees. Buying has fallen steadily since the head formed, even as price climbed into the right shoulder. The one thing holding ENA up is that selling volume has stayed flat since August 30.

Fading Bid:Buying volume fell while price made the right shoulder

The Drop:A break projects 26% lower, toward $0.1111
Analyst's View: Flat is not calm here. The market is holding a level it has defended for 12 days while its largest buyer (ETFs) has quietly withdrawn. If sellers arrive over a thin weekend, there is far less money on the other side than there was two weeks ago.
