XRP(CRYPTO:XRP) trades at $1.45 after gaining 37% over the past month and 5% over the past week. The XRP price touched $1.70 on August 22 before pulling back, and it had traded under $1 in mid-August before the recovery began.

The $2 figure keeps coming up because it is the round number just above where XRP opened 2026 at $1.84, and a level the coin held for stretches of last year. A move from $1.45 to $2 would be a 38% gain.

So could the XRP price reach $2 by the end of 2026?

What $2 Would Mean Against XRP's History

The XRP price started this year near $1.84 before falling to $1.45, a year-to-date decline of 21%. Against the recent range, $2 is above every daily close XRP has had in the past three months. The nearest reference above the current price is the August 22 high of $1.70, which the coin could not hold, and then the August 25 high of $1.55.

So before $2 becomes a serious conversation, the XRP price needs to clear $1.70 on a daily close and hold it, because XRP was rejected there last month. Reaching $1.70 is a 17% move, and $1.70 to $2 is another 18%.

XRP is also down 48% over the past year from $2.79, so $2 is a level the coin held eleven months ago and then lost.

Why the CLARITY Act Vote Comes First

The Senate is scheduled to hold a cloture vote on the CLARITY Act on September 15, and the XRP price has moved on the bill's progress since May. Cloture is the procedural vote that ends debate on a bill and needs sixty senators, so it only clears the way for a final floor vote. The CLARITY Act would split federal oversight of digital assets between the SEC, which regulates investment contracts, and the CFTC, which regulates commodities like Bitcoin(CRYPTO:BTC). That split would place tokens like XRP under a defined regime after years of case-by-case enforcement.

Right now the sixty-vote threshold needs cross-party support that has not been confirmed, and the XRP price has spent August trading on that uncertainty. If cloture succeeds, the XRP price would most likely trade on the assumption that the final vote follows and that the SEC could no longer treat XRP as a security. If cloture fails, the bill could be rescheduled, but the catalyst would disappear and the market would wait.

XRP Rallied With the Market and Its Own ETFs

The XRP price did not run alone, since Bitcoin rose 26% over the past month to around $81,000, and Ethereum (CRYPTO:ETH) rose 31% to around $2,500, so XRP outpaced both by 6 to 11 percentage points. However, both majors are still negative for the year, with Bitcoin down 7% and Ethereum down 15%, so the recent move looks like a rebound from oversold levels.

Moreover, XRP ETFs took in $110.49 million in the week ending August 28, their best week of 2026, which pushed cumulative inflows past $1.66 billion. ETF issuers have to buy XRP on the open market when new money enters their funds, so weekly inflows at that pace keep pulling tokens off exchanges and reduce the supply available to sell.

For the XRP price to close the gap to $2, Bitcoin would most likely need to hold above $80,000 and Ethereum above $2,500 through the vote, because XRP tends to fall faster than the majors when either breaks. XRP fell faster on August 22, dropping to $1.07 on one exchange in the same session Bitcoin slipped 3.8%.

Can XRP Reach $2 by Year-End?

XRP could reach $2 by December 31, but only if three things happen in order. The Senate would need sixty votes on cloture on September 15, which is not confirmed. The XRP price would then need to clear $1.70 on a daily close, since XRP was rejected there on August 22. And Bitcoin would have to hold above $80,000 through the vote so the wider market stays supported, because XRP has not made new highs against Bitcoin all year and is unlikely to break out on its own.

However, a cloture loss on September 15 would not have to send the XRP price back under $1. The $2 conversation would go on hold until the bill is rescheduled, and the coin could retrace toward the $1.25 to $1.35 range it traded in during the third week of August. If the vote passes and XRP closes above $1.70 in the week after, $2 could be in reach before year-end. If either fails, $2 would be out of reach for 2026.
