The hardest part of retiring is replacing the paycheck. Social Security and 401(k) withdrawals cover some of the gap. Many retirees still want quarterly cash so they never have to sell shares into a falling market to pay the bills.
Dividend stocks can do that job. Splitting $300,000 equally across three financial companies, $100,000 in each, would return about $13,000 of dividend income per year at current rates. Two of the three are asset managers, and one is a regional bank, so each section below explains how the business earns the cash behind its dividend.
A $100,000 stake in each of these three high-yield names would produce the following. They run from lowest yield to highest, with each company's current quarterly dividend annualized forward.

Coverage is where Ares looks weakest. Third-quarter after-tax realized income came to $1.26 per share, which put the dividend at about 107% of that quarter's realized income. Management expects $160 million to $185 million of realized net performance income in the fourth quarter. Fee-related earnings rose 11% to $524.2 million. The dividend is up more than 20% from a year earlier. Investors who own shares before the December 17 ex-dividend date would receive the December 31 payment.

Regions is a regional bank based in Birmingham, Alabama, with branches across the South, the Midwest, and Texas. A bank pays its dividend out of the spread between what it earns on loans and securities and what it pays depositors. Regions' net interest margin rose to 3.68% in the third quarter. Wealth management, capital markets and treasury management fees add a second source of income. A 40% to 50% payout target and the modest valuation typical of regional banks keep the yield high at $28.69 per share.
Third-quarter adjusted EPS of $0.73 means the $0.30 quarterly dividend ($1.20 annualized) takes about 41% of earnings. The payout is up from $0.26 in early 2026. The bank's CET1 ratio of 10.8% is above its 9.25% to 9.75% target, and net charge-offs fell to 29 basis points. On the earnings call, CFO Anil Chadha said Regions returns roughly 50 basis points of capital per quarter and pays out 20 basis points as dividends. Shares owned before the December 1 ex-dividend date qualify for the January 4 payment.

Shares for $100,000: 946.43

Annual Passive Income: ~$4,921.45
T. Rowe Price is an active asset manager that charges fees on $1.86 trillion held in mutual funds, ETFs, separately managed accounts, and retirement plans. Its fees are a percentage of assets, while most of its costs are people and technology. That means profits turn into cash with little capital spending. The yield is high because investors are worried about $28.3 billion of third-quarter net outflows and a fee rate that slipped to 37.8 basis points. The stock is down 39.69% over five years at $105.66.
Earnings cover the dividend with room to spare. Third-quarter adjusted diluted EPS of $2.86 means the $1.30 quarterly dividend ($5.20 annualized) takes about 45% of earnings. The company has $4.9 billion in cash and discretionary investments. CFO Jen Dardis said the company can "support our dividend and opportunistically repurchase shares." ETF net inflows have reached $11 billion year to date. T. Rowe Price has not yet declared its next quarterly payment.
